Ok this is not my best angle, but I wanted you to see the color, as well as how thick my hair is!! My hair was BLACK before chemo. This salt and pepper almost looks fake to me because I'm not used to it yet. LOL 5 months PFC next week.

Noonrider, that is amazing thickness, looks great.  I'm almost 6 weeks out & still have nothing but peach fuzz.  Thanks for posting hope mine is looking like yours one day.

noonrider, you have lots of hair. Your hair is very straight and well behaved. It looks like you will skip the curly, impossible to manage, phase.

I got more gray after chemo as well, but I do not know how much more because I color it.

LOL It does NOT behave. I have hair glue in it to KIND OF get it to lay down. Otherwise it stands straight up. I will try to get a picture of that.

Hi ladies. It's been a while since I posted, but wanted to share some pics with you so you know what to possibly expect a year after your first chemo. It was one year for me on Dec. 5. I had my hair trimmed a couple months ago and went for an actual hair cut last week. Mine did not come in grey. This is my natural color. It did start out white so I assumed it was going to be grey, but it changed after about 1/4 inch. I didn't shave it off like some people do. I too had face fur. It was horrible. it was like pretty long and all over. I used the finishing touch trimmer on it and was so happy I did. It eventually slows down and isn't noticeable. I hope these pics don't come out to big. I don't know how to change the size. Happy Saturday everyone!

love the hair pics noonrider I want to see they pic before you used products in your hair! My hair is so thick and wavy even products doesn't help.

I do have face hair. How long does that take to go away? She I wait or shave it?

Mikesgirl I love you hair. So you are a year PFC? How many inches did you get cut off when you got your haircuts? It's looks great. Looking forward to when mine is that long.

It will be a yr since shaving off my hair on jan 27 and almost 8 months pfc now. My first chemo infusion was jan 13 2014, wow, almost a yr! You've all seen my pictures so if I pull out my curls my hair length is about 3". That's on top. I'm keeping it short and had my first trim at oct 1 which was 6 mo pfc and another one yesterday. Only getting the sides and back trimmed. Went without head covering by mid July 3 mo pf

Thanks girls. I know that when I started this journey, it seemed impossible to wrap my head around how long it would take to have hair again. I had about an inch or so taken off the back and sides. The top was just trimmed.

Mikesgirl - Your style looks great!  It looks as though your hair came back healthy and thick.  My hair first came in white as well, and eventually turned to my natural mix of red/brown and grey.  I'm two and a half years out and my length is back to pre-chemo length (with multiple trims to correct unevenness).

As far as facial hair goes, I used Nair (for facial hair), which worked well.  I only had to apply it once.

My hair is actually still thin. (Always was!) I have to use mousse and spray gel to get it to look like this. One day I let it air dry and it was awful. Limp, lifeless and flat to my head. I try not to complain because hair is hair. It keeps us warm. I was so cold last year. The Maine winter was brutal!

My last chemo was June 27th and my hair is very thick and very curly. I'm still wearing a wig because I don't know what to do with the curls. Any ideas?

I use Moroccan Oil after I wash my hair, spray with thermal spray, dry, spray again and use a flat iron.

When I'm lazy, which is most of the time, Moroccan Oil makes a cream for curly hair. It also takes out the frizz.

Q. how do estrogen/hormone blockers effect fingernails & toenails? & teeth?

abigail nice to see you! Are you considering starting on hormone therapy? PM me if you have any particular questions about effects of blocking estrogen on those well past menopause. Most women here are concerned about hair growth post chemo which is quite different from hair loss due to endocrine therapy. I was a daily reader here five years ago when I started chemotherapy then moved on to the Hormone therapy threads.

To answer your Q. In my experience indirectly lower estrogen can effect teeth because of dry mouth especially if mouth is open while sleeping. I have not noticed any effect of dryness on fingernails & toenails but do have dry eyes and cataracts. I believe the effect of low estrogen on hair is not direct in that low estrogen = a higher influence by testosterone and it is testosterone that drives male pattern baldness. At least that has been my understanding from my reading. Hair loss was one of the reasons I stopped taking anastrozole at four years out.

interesting. no I'm still not interested in any convertional therapies, just thinking last night if it effects hair, & I thought while infusions perhaps different from estrogen blockers, kiss cells & hai is most . soonest effective, why doesn't it, or does it effect nails & teeth made up of similar stuff. by the way I did go on cancer math yesterday & from there got a 3 year advance mortality 3 years from dr google years ago. he/she said 100 percent dead in what would turn out to be for me july 15 2015. cancer math took 4 + years off of my lfe expectancy because of my age but that gave me 3 years or so more. to age 81.

My teeth, nails and hair are fine on exemestane.  I do experience mild dry skin and strange acne. My face is clear now but I go through phases of kind lof like ache. I use polysporin it clears up. My biggest gripe is tinnitus and some stiffness and weight gain. I am going to take a break for 1 to 2 months. My weight is getting better since I stepped up the exercise and eating less.

When I was on exemestane I had the "weird acne" too and just a little prescription strength hydrocortisone cream cleared it up within 24 hours (my PCP suggested it).

Someone wrote in here about either a conditioner or vitamin (?) that they used for their hair that made it really healthy. They said it took about a year for the results to show but it was amazing. Anyone remember who that was and what the product was? I forgot to write it down!

Homemom, I hear ya sister! My hair feels like it has stopped growing...4 mos PFC today. Rar. Nothing extraordinary either - I did have my thyroid out last week, but the stunt in growth started about 2 weeks prior to that so unrelated. I think it's psychological in my case, I so wanted enough hair to go topless by Christmas - it probably is thickening and growing, just not fast enough for me. Thanks to Tamoxifen I am having these vivid did-that-really-happen dreams and over the weekend my night was spent squeezing water out of my hair in the shower - at least I know that was not real haha. Patience is not my strong suit.

Bow, we are on the same schedule lol. I seem to have more hair on top and in the back then the sides. I am waiting for it to get to an inch long and then I'm using one of those 30 day colors Too much gray to go topless.

You ladies all look wonderful.  I am extremely jealous.  My hair never returned to pre-chemo look.  I am now 2+ years past last chemo and my hair while now at shoulder length, it is extremely thin and my scalp is very visible.  I have no choice but to wear a hair topper piece to cover my head.  It is very depressing and I hate it.  I have 3 more years of hormonal therapy and am optimistic that upon completion my hair will grow back.  In the interim I am using rogaine and covering my baldness with hair pieces.  Hate it!!!!!
