kj and ossa looking fantastic!!
-
Mary and everyone with naturally curly hair: I would consider reviewing the advice at naturallycurly.com for hair that is slight more curly than your own hair was before chemo. My own hair is 3b and 3c so I'm expecting 4a hair. Thus far itis very straight but also so short that it is only a 5 o'clock shadow
; >
Ouidad's products work very well on my 3b/3c hair. Withthe climate control I just wash, run it through and let it dry by itself. Blowdrying hair that is curlier than you are used to can take much more heat and more time or else puffyness ensues. I'd be concerned about using too much heat on hair recovering from chemo.
So glad you spoke up. I was getting a curly hair is bad complex ; >

Ossa: Beautiful!
Schatzi: You're husband is a sweetie! Tell him thank you!
Cayh: Wow-you're hair is coming in. I am 10 weeks PFC. My hair came in black (pepper?) with about 5 percent salt. I colored it my "natural" color (color before chemo took it away) brown with a hint of red in it. I used a temp. color w/o ammonia. (hairdresser did it).
Rn4babies: I have been going "topless" for at least 3-4 weeks. "Giselle" (my wig) and I broke up, hopefully for good, about 5 minutes after the photographer was done with the pics. I liked the way I looked in the wig, but I really couldn't stand to have it on my head.
KS--Boy, your hair's growing long! You look great!
MamaV: You look beautiful in all your shots!
-
Hey I was having a little fun on the computer today. I call this "Six months PFC." My apologies in advance if I offend anyone.
-
Love all the pics, thanks for posting.
Does anyone with curly hair post chemo find that using a diffuser helps get rid of frizz? -
herstrong I love it!!!
-
Herstrong, funny!
-
Wow ksmatthews and MammaV I cant believe how much hair you guys have at a little over a year. It gives me hope.
My avatar is at 9 weeks PFC I started going topless at 8 weeks. I left work for my surgeries at the same time and just decided to ditch the headscarves.
My sides and back are getting failry curly now. Not sure what to do with it.
-
Herstrong: Too funny! I had a good laugh!
-
herstrong I love it!!! too funny and so right on I bet everyone here can relate.
-
Looking great KS! I just don't want to lose length in the back, but your cut looks sooo good!
herstrong - thanks for the laugh!
-
Haha! I couldn't fibd a picture horrid enough about what the bf must think, lol!
-
KS.....how is your hair s straight?
Everyone looks wonderful!
-
To cut or not to cut? Whaddya think? My goal is to grow it long but it is at a really bad phase. I am 12 weeks pfc and my hair is straight on top and curly on the sides and back, it is sticking out over my ears. It would be better all curly or all straight. Should I cut those curls off on the sides and back? Will post photos soon... It's only about 2 inches long. I hate to chop it but it looks really stoopid...
-
jpmom.. Trim to give it shape easier to grow out that way
-
jp, two words... hair gel :-).
-
These pictures are so encouraging..I am going in for round 2 of chemo today and my hair is nuts..I buzzed post first cycle and since yesterday its falling out but MAN its not pretty...patches everywere. I wish it just all came out to be honest as its all over the place..My kids keep laughing at me - so much support there
..wondering does anyone know - will it fall out completely or does it continue to do this ugly thing for a while...ick.
-
MissC: mine never fell out completely. I had sparse strands left here and there, so attractive. Then somewhere near the end of my last taxotere, I realized that I had new short growth, and he old stuff had fallen out!
-
jpmom - use "Got to be Glued" hair gel - it's in a yellow tube. That's how I kept my sides from sticking out! (And at 2" you can shape a little with a tiny 1/2" flat iron) Good luck!
I still say I'm NEVER cutting my hair again LOL
-
MissC, the patchy bald look was so distressing, I didn't wait to see if it was all going to come out. I shaved it. Besides, it hurt. After I shaved it, I felt much better. Still didn't like it, but it was easier to deal with.
-
MamaV, I've been doing the same thing as you except with John Frieda products. My 1/2" flat iron has really helped. My hair looks a lot like yours and I'm coming up to 10 months PFC. I do have to say that I was swayed to buy a product after seeing an advertisement and it turned out it's really nice. It's Fructis Moroccan Sleek Oil. It doesn't feel oily and my hair has been a lot more manageable. I also find if I don't wash it everyday (even though there is product in there) I get a much better style the next day.
For all of you wishing for bangs... they are great until they get too long and then they are at the "don't know what to do with them" stage :-). I feel naked to brush them out of my face now, but they are getting too long to be bangs.
No haircut yet!
-
mamav I haven't really had it cut just trimmed so the back and sides all grow out even. I had a mullet look going on lol. It is very curly in the back and it is finally long enough that I can use a flat iron to straighten it. It also takes product! I spray moroccan oil on it and also use some product my hairdresser gave me. It works! I actually wore my hair alot like this before chemo. But I had just started letting it grow out. I cant wait until the sides and back are longer though
-
I am still debating, thanks for the advice. I may get the clear tips trimmed off and get the sides shortened to go better with the top. I think that in general the sides are supposed to be shorter than the top but mine are actually longer... It looks funny. After this though I don't wanna cut my hair again for a long time. I will give the goo a try!
-
Yep . . . got THE CURL too now everywhere. Looking more and more like the Gerber Baby - LOL! Also won't need a perm anytime soon. What an intriguing journey we are on.
-
Hi Ladies - I'm 7 months PFC now. I thought mine was going to stay straight, but at about the 5 month mark, the curls set in. I think I've got about 2" of hair now. I finally broke down and got a trim a few weeks ago...just to clean up my neck and even things out a bit. I'm still wearing my wig to work - I just don't feel like myself with the short hair. But, the wig doesn't feel as secure as it used to and I know I need to give it up pretty soon. I love seeing everyone's pictures knowing that a few months from now, I should have even more growth. Gives me hope!!
After reading that I might be able to use a flat iron now, I'm definitely going to go and buy a smaller one. I have a 2" one as I had long hair before this. Looking forward to playing with it and seeing how my hair looks without all this weird curl in it.
-
jp- I had my stylist trim my neck because it was so fuzzy. I use a lot of hair gel then I spray it with hair spray while it is still damp. It seems like every couple of days it changes and I have to figure out a new way to style it but the gel works wonders! Today was a good hair day for me!
-
Herstrong - LOVE the pictures
I still have 2 more chemos but my hair is coming back mostly white and bristly (sooooo cute - blaahhhhh) I had red hair that was getting a little white and now who knows what it will look like. When can you dye it?
-
Herstong, mine looks like your 9 month PFC picture, lol. When I wake up in the morning, I look like Jack Nicholson! MammaV, my hair is really close to your 1 year PFC. (I will be 1 year 10/7/12) It looks like you grew A LOT between your 1 year and 1 year 2 month PFC. I am hoping mine does that!
-
MissC, I shaved it after 1st AC - I couldn't stand to watch it fall out in pieces.
Jenn78, I finally gave up wig 2 weeks ago at 8 months pfc. I hate short hair so much, and just waited until I was comfortable. Do what you have to do. I would never choose this "style" I have now, but I waited until it was a length I could deal with, even tho my husband and son said it looked good months ago. -
I'm so glad everyone is chiming in! It's so funny now - not really ha ha funny - but funny - how we stress about getting a hair cut!
It's nice we have each other to compare - and yes - my hair has really taken off now that I'm past 1 year. It didn't grow AT ALL for the first 2 months, so anyone who got that early or taxol growth should have even quicker results!
For those of you not ready to ditch the wig - bobby pin it to your hair. It'll feel more secure!
