Hi Ladies. I've very much enjoyed reading your posts and following your hair growth progress. It has inspired me to start taking pictures of my journey.
I am still having chemo. I lost my hair a couple of weeks after my first AC - buzzed it once it started coming out in handfuls.
I've now completed 5/12 weekly Taxol treatments and my hair is growing back. It started a couple of weeks ago and I'm completely obssessed with it! I wonder will it continue to grow? Will it fall out again? I'm just happy to think I might have hair for Christmas ... that is my goal.
On the rest of my hair. I have a few lashes on top (not many) and haven't had any lower lashes for a couple of months. My left brow is hanging in there but the right one is looking odd and missing a chunk in the middle. Thank goodness for makeup!
-
I had my hair buzzed on AC then on taxol it started to grow and then I got the head soreness and it started falling out again. On my last taxol, I had 4, I had my son buzz it back down to give it a more even look growing back in. Which I have the white hair coming back in, but I do see a little hint of darkness in places.

FLwarrior yes I used henna and still do. bought a jar for brunettes and it propably has 4-5 treatments in a jar( because I didnt need much with so little hair) I mixed mine with hot coffee to enhance the color and I really like how it works, all my girlfriends notice when I do it, it gives me such a rich brown color.
dutchgirl, your hair looks great, you have a nice wave of a curl. People here said it would start to curl when it gets a little longer and they were right, mine is finally getting a little curl to it. Funny thing, the onc nurse asked me why mine wasnt coming in curly yet and then she thought a minute and said "Oh yeah its the taxol that makes it come in curly" which I did not have. Dont know if this is true, we will have to take a poll.
-
carberry. I took 4 rounds of taxotere and cytoxan. I have the Shirley Temple curls. The curls started in the back and now the top and sides are starting to curl also. My last chemo was Feburary 9th.
-
Dutchgirl: You look very nice
. Cannot wait until my hair is that long. I am 5 months PFC.
Carrol2: Your hair looks Fabulous!! Are you used to the dark color or you miss the prior color? Are you going to let your hair grow or keep it short?
-
My luck ran out & I have lost all of my head hair, started falling out 2 days ago after 4 A+C treatments and 2 Taxol treatments. I have 2 more Taxol treatments and then 12 once a month Herceptin. Curious as to whether my hair will start to grow back and then fall out again. I'm glad I had permanent eyebrows (tatoos) 3 years ago. What a journey this is that we are all on. Love to all of you as you are sure making my journey easier.

mammalou, many years ago a dermatologist told me that shaving our faces was the best form of exfoliating, So I did it, felt odd doing it the first time, but my face skin is so much smoother as it gets rid of the dead cells. Does not grow back like male stubble and I shave my face about 2-3 times week for the exfoliation.

I have an update on my hair linky but to be honest not a huge difference. Getting my hair cut on Monday. Too long on the sides but I haven't cut the top yet. It sticks up a bit less now that it's getting longer. Still growing the top longer. Bangs are coming.
BTW you all look great.
panamajayne It's strange to be without hair but it really does come back. It does save some time though. I would pop on a scarf and go. Now drying styling required.
I'm on herceptin too and mine is growing just fine. I have 2 more infusions left.

Have been minimizing computer for a few days... lots of medical stuff... so got behind on the comments.
I had HORRIBLE scalp pain, found that sunburn lotion with aloe and lidocaine helped a little, but a good non-scented body lotion like Keri or other helped immensely.
Hang in there, hairless ladies.... I can tell you there were days when I was convinced I would be one of those who did not get my hair back, but it is pretty awesome in how thick it is, and although I would like for it to be mid-length like it was pre-chemo, I am just happy to have it covering my head again. And I have decided to forget about worrying about any more toxins in hair color - I hated the dark gray with white sides and colored it a couple of weeks ago. Got rave reviews. Getting my first "cut" (well, a trim to make me look a little better-groomed) this morning.

I am at 4.5 wks PFC and still have fuzz. albeit longer fuzz. Not much else yet, but all of your words still keep giving me hope. At least I am being braver. Sometimes I go out in just my cap, which I didn't do before now. I am just getting tired of the wig, as it is HOT and getting a bit well worn.
Lago, I love Chicago. My sister lives in Evanston, and I do hope to visit her again when this is all over.

lago, i think your hair is amazing. it looks like a carefully planned hairstyle ... does that make sense? ... like your WANTED your hair to be that short. and i really appreciate all your pictures, especially because you have such a happy smile in each one.
-
Panamajayne - so sorry to hear of your loss, I fear I may experience the exact same thing. I have finished my 4 ACs and will start Taxol on Wednesday. I will not be surprised if it happens. But then I can console myself with the idea that it won't be too much longer before it all comes back. I don't care so much about the hair on my head, but I'd really be happy if the eyelashes and eyebrows hung in there. I'm not holding my breath, though.

thanks YaYa my parents paid a lot for this smile.
Braces twice total of 19 teeth pulled (11 were baby teeth) etc. I grew being told the family trip to Japan was in my mouth. Big teeth small mouth not a good match. I'm required to show it off. I think that's how I attracted my husband. He says its the first thing he noticed about me. Funny but I thought it would be the eyes.
But I did start cutting and coloring my hair pretty early. No need to look shaggy. Work with what you have. But I'm keeping it this short for a while. At least I won't even consider growing it out till all the wavy stuff goes away. My old hair is stick straight. It will be about another year or so before I get that back.
Sweetcorn you let me know when you're in town. Evanston is not that far away. I live on the north side.

You look lovely as always Lago. You are making me tempted to colour my hair, but I am still going to hold out. I want to let mine grow for a bit to see what exactly it is going to do, but as it grows it just seems to get thicker rather than longer.
I have been very VERY lazy - don't even bother with a touch of makeup anymore. Considering I am heading back to work soon I'm thinking I should start getting my look a little more polished!! Actually...I think like that everytime I see your pics - you always look perfect.
Edited to add: Ok, I'm on my own tonight so for entertainment perhaps I shall get all made up and see if remember how to pull it off LOL!!
-
OK ladies I went for my first PFC hair cut today at 15 weeks out. The back and around my ears was getting crazy. So... I'm sitting there waiting for my stylist and another women comes up and comments how adorable my hair is. This is before hair cut mind you! I thanked her and explained that it was not a hair style of my choosing but that I was a breast cancer survivor. She looked shocked! This was exactly what I needed today.
I'm an elementary principal and kids head back to school this week and I have been doubting my decision to ditch the scarves. I'll get a pic up soon.
bdavis - I'm glad you are doing well. We were diagnosed around the same time so I've been trying to keep up with your journey. I'm done with treatment now and it feels amazing!!! My first scans will be in October. -
tsundermann - that is an awesome story!! Can't wait to see pics.
-
Marjie every picture except the last is right after I put on my makeup and shower… so yes that is about as perfect as I get
Last one I was out and about so some of the make up came off.
Personally I think you look perfect. You don't seem to need make up.
-
lago - you look great as always. on your advice, I updated my avatar picture. decided I had had enough of the gray and hit the bottle.
-
Lago ** You are stunning!!! Thanks for those updates.
AimeeMac** The color is perfect.
Marjie** I want your hair.
Now where is my hair??? Almost 7 weeks PFC and maybe some fuzz.
-
Aimee I love the color.
Thanks PSU222 but I just photograph well.
Seriously everyone looks better in 72 DPI.
I still haven't updated my avatar. I know so many are going through chemo here. That is 2 weeks after my 4th chemo. I feel it's a good one to keep up.

Hi Tammy... I have had a rough road lately... I was diagnosed with a blood clot yesterday which is sort of complicated since I have a bleeding, oozing breast (open wound)... Ask me in a month... I am glad you are done with everything!! I am sure it is comforting to be DONE... as I was telling my recent woes today to my hair stylist today (brought my daughter in), she said, "well, at least you have good hair"... so yes, I have good thick hair, albeit short.
-
Thanks, lago. I will let you know when I make the Chicago trip. It may not be for awhile.
I am really having ups and downs with the hair thing. Eyeliner is my friend now that most lashes have disappeared. What is left of the lashes are clumped together. But I did have to shave my legs today! And the fuzz is a little longer and thicker. And I see a few darker sprouts.
I know someone said to take pictures of the progress so that we don't keep gazing into the mirror. I think I would still look to the mirror for hope every day!
Best of luck to all,
Jane

Looking good Lago! as always. Your hair was beautiful before but I also like you with the short style it suits your creative persona.
Islandmom yes I do miss my old hair now. I feel like the short dark curls make me look ooooold. Even my husband said he feels old when he looks at me, that was mean I know. It's funny cause I ahve always hated my hair, it was thin and i hilited so much it got dry. Now I miss my feminie look. not sure what I will do next. For now I am jsut watching it grow.
hang in there ladies it will grow back . . .

today i was writing a check at the grocery store and the cashier needed to see my id ( day after my wedding day 2 years ago... hair super long and way different color!) so i whip it out and give it to her. she looked at it, at me, at it, at me. and says "oh hon, why did you cut your hair so short? it was so pretty" i replied " well that hair would have killed me knowing now what i didn't know back then" and just smiled. she was like a deer in the headlights!! i politely said my usual "thank you have a nice day" after my transaction was done. and left.
you think i left her with something to think about the rest of the day? lol!
-
Well I hope I can get through airport security with my ID tomorrow. Guess I'll have to show off that smile to prove it's me.
-
LOL Lago! Great hair, great smile and funny too! haha
Carroll2, sorry you don't like your new hair. I felt similarly about my old hair, it was way too fine. Every hairdresser I ever went to commented on it. I wore it short because of that. I really do think your new hair is super cute and does not make you look old. Probably just because it is short, you feel that way. Mine is about 2 mm right now. Really hoping for thick and curly. We'll see.

This is how my hair looks in the morning......but how come I cant pull it off like Halle ?
-
carrol... I think your hair looks great... Embrace it!!
-
And Carberry... Halle gets away with a lot... nature of the beast... But the rest of us have unruly!!
