I was on T/C x 4 every three weeks. Last chemo Sept 30, nothing until Dec 15 when I received first zoladex inj.

You can see at 6 weeks I had very little hair. I am using Biotin and rogaine, too.

Nikola when you post an image (using the tree symbol in the tool bar of the message area) you will see the dimensions of your image. You can changed those. You might want to make them 1/3 to 1/4 the size.

Guess what I am doing right now?!  Coloring my hair!  I have enough now (3 mos PFC) that I felt it was worth coloring.  Still not wearing it in public, but can't stand all the grey.  I had been coloring it for years before chemo and did not realize how much grey was in it.  Also, the non-grey part is a flat black - ick.  Need a slightly lighter and richer color so I can tuck my wig back and let my natural sideburns show.  

It is coming in really thick with very full coverage.  I see the first signs of curl, but mine was naturally curly to begin with so no big deal to me.

Odd to say, but it feels nice to be "maintaining" my hair again.

   Spring is coming and everything grows faster in the spring. I wish you all rapid hair growth . I have been following you guys ever since I found out I had BC. LIke to read the threads where people are coming thru the worst parts and starting to get a little excited by the recovery parts.

 I went today and had my hair cut off and donated it to Locks of Love.Sporting a 1/2" punk rock look with pink tips. I am starting chemo in the next week or so and was determined from the beginning to cut it before I lost it in my sleep or the shower. It was elbow length and thick and beautiful-and one day hoping it will be again.

How wonderful that you donated your beautiful hair Lily.  Its very emotional but as you can see, the hair does grow back!  And you will LOVE the maintenance break.

MBJ - I have a question about the Marc Anthony Straight that you use...

I looked online to see where to buy it, and there are several products in the Straight line.  Which is it that you used on your hair when it was really short (am I remembering that right - that you used it on your really short hair and finger styled it?)  I'm not sure which it is - Relaxx Temporary Straightener, the Secret Silk Frizz Away Serum, or the Instant Straightening Cream... or something else even?

My hair is only about 1.5 inches all over, and the curls are really bugging me - but there is no way I can use a brush/hairdryer or flat iron on it yet.

Thanks for any advice...

nikola:  Thanks for posting your pics!  I have maybe a bit more fuzz at 5 weeks pfc than you did at 4, but I was concerned that maybe mine was coming back slower.  Now, after seeing your pics, I feel like I'm ok.  Your growth is amazing!  At 4 weeks pfc, I looked about the same, so now I can't wait to see what it will be at 8 weeks.  I see tiny dark hairs, more on the sides than the top, but running my hand across my scalp tells me there's growth everywhere.  I'm really excited to see how quick mine will take off!  I had TC x 4.

lago, my onc said that the women's version of Rogaine does not work as well as the men's.  I think MBJ said the same thing.

Adnerb I had used the men's rogaine before BS due to my thinning temples. I started growing hair on other places on my face (like cheeks) so I stopped. I switched to the women's rogaine but only used it once a da y and still got results. So my recommendation is anyone who tries the men's might only want to use it once a day and if they get facial hair growth, use the women's product.

I am in the middle of chemo, my favorite thread is hair, hair, hair.  Your hair looks so cute, I was short before, and can not wait until I am there again.  The short hair looks great on you!

Wow what a difference a few weeks make. Your hair now looks like how I wore it in my early 20's.

Wow!  So many posts I can't catch up!  I love that all of you look so cute with your pixie cuts.  I, unfortunately, looked like Golum until I could dye my hair.

Lago:  That is great advice regarding the Men's vs's Women's Rogaine-we are all so different in how we react to products.  Target sells the exact same product for much less.

Nikola:  I prefer to use the men's rogaine (see Abnerb's post, first) in the dropper so that it doesn't go everywhere because it's too greasy otherwise.

Saralmom:  I preferred the Style Straight instant straightening creme.  It "smoothes waves and frizzy curls into shiny, straight styles".  I didn't like the Instant Straight as it was too drying.

Nancy: Sorry the dye didn't take.  I bleached the heck out of my hair when it was about 3" long (I don't recommend this as it really dried out my hair) and wore it blonde for 3 months and then dyed it and I didn't have any problems.  If you try and dye it before six months on chemo growth, the dye doesn't "take".  That's why I say it's better to dye it yourself at home (you can buy Herbal dyes at Whole Foods or Health Food stores) to see if it will hold any color.  Do you know what color your stylist used?  You can also try the temporary wash and wear over the counter dyes without any amonia.

BTW I use the generic Walgreens brand of Rogaine. It's less expensive, not as greasy and always on sale. Same active ingredient.

My GP gave me prescription for men's Rogaine beginning of Dec in spray bottle. I loved spray back then when I was still using my wig as it was easy to apply. Now, it makes my hair greasy. I have to put first foam and then Rogaine. I was applying twice a day at the beginning and now once, before bed.

cc4npg, once it starts to grow you can  really see difference from week to week. I was always taking pictures on Thursdays and was amazed each time with the progress. My hair started fine and stayed fine. It was fine before chemo, too.

adnerb, I am having another surgery coming in April (ovaries are going out). Hopefully my hair would not suffer.

Speaking of hair, when does the fuzz face stop/fall out. I have had tiny white hairs all over my face for a while now. To small to pull out and hardly noticeable but I feel like an albino peach.

Oh my, you ladies all give me hope!  My hair has been frustrating me to no end!  I'm about 6 weeks PFC but my hair started coming back in (the white peach fuzz) about a month before my last weekly Taxol.  It has been so patchy and reminiscent of male pattern baldness that I've been telling DH that I look like a little old man and especially so now that I'm post BMX.  It's encouraging to hear and see that the hair will fill in!  I've been so anxious about this.  I know that it's probably silly considering I have so many other things to worry about, but prior to BC I always loved my hair!  Thanks ladies for posting your photos and your hair journey stories!!

Stacy....love your hair colour! I am about a month behind you and mine is much shorter but coming in thicker now.



I am tired of wearing scarves/hats but don't have that much hair yet to not be cold and feel strange. I am going to check out that Nioxin -- did people find that it worked or is it just time?

A number of us shaved our faces for the same reason...very fuzzy!  Only needed it once....but it was really really strange to do. I just used a nice lather of regular soap and did just fine.

dominka marie MBJ you girls look great! I am at 13 weeks still looking very GI Jane and salt and pepperish. Mostly dark though. I will try to post pics tomorrow. My onco has not offered any advice on how to take care of my hair. Has anyone been told not to color your hair? I can;t go topless yet so I will wait as long as I can to color it. But it makes me feel really old, I am 46 and colored my hiar so long i never saw how grey i was.

My chemo binder says you can color your hair when ever you want.

Carrol I think semi perm. or a daily color rinse would be safe anytime but always ask your Dr.
