Search problems?

Is anyone else having problems with the search box? I can't find anything I normally search for (e.g. - g-sleeves, axillary reverse mapping, JoviPak, etc., etc.) Nothing comes up, but I know it's there, so I've been spending a lot of time searching back through post archives by title, hoping I can remember what subject we discussed it under. Wha' happened?!

The thread 'having trouble posting' had this at the bottom from the BC.org tech team

Thanks everyone.  We have added additional monitoring and error reporting so we hope to stay on top of this issue.  It appears the search indexing service in use with the boards search was the culprit.  We'll keep an closer eye on it.

    Thanks!

I don't know if that is why the search function is not working now, but it does sound suspicious that it is not working now.

    Binney,

Please forgive me if I'm stating the obvious, but it took me a while to figure this out myself!

There are now TWO search boxes, each labeled simply "Search"!!!

Apparently the one at the very top right of the page (in the "old-gold" colored rectangle) searches the "official" pages of BCO: news reports, Q&A from experts, etc.  I think I used to search the discussion boards from there, up until about a month ago.  But now that box won't look through the discussion boards.

However, under the pink/purple rectangle that says "You are logged in as [membername]" there is another "Search", a pink one, (between "Log Out" and "Active Conversations") -- this searches the discussion boards.  Although I think the database for such searches is still not totally "re-built",  when I entered "JoviPak" just now, I got 56 results from our discussions.

My suggestion to the software designers would be to rename these two "Search" functions with a modifier (like "Discussion Board Search" for the pink one???) so it would be a little more apparent to the user that these are 2 completely different searches looking through 2 different databases.

    To the Tech/Admins:

In the "Help" section, one of the frequently asked questions is "How do I find Conversations that may already have the answer to the question I have?"

    This answer says:

"One of the key features of our new Discussion Boards is the Search. Before starting a Conversation, it is always worth checking to see if your concern has already been submitted. You can do this via the 'Search Discussion Boards' field below the pink login section in the upper right hand corner of the screen."

But the field referred to is actually just named 'Search' !  I think it would be most helpful if it was truly labeled 'Search Discussion Boards' as you seem to have intended to do!

    Thanks,

    Ann

P.S.  I understand this issue is on the Admins' agenda!  Thanks!

    Laughing Well, duh!

See, if you don't ask you never find out! Many, many thanks! I shall go search happily. Whew!

Actually, the only part of that little pink bar that catches my eye is where it says, "Community rules!" and I always think, yeah! Fists up! It rules!

    Thanks, Ann,

    Binney
