3-day walks

Hi all--I'm seeing lots of messages are weight loss and exercising...and thought I would throw this one in. I'm sure most have heard about the Susan B. Komen 3-day walks (20 miles a day for 3 days) in support of BC prevention & research. Well--if you're interested in losing weight and regaining some fitness--this is great activity to gear up for. The Atlanta 3-day is in late October and teams have already started training. I'm walkign 5-8 miles at least four or five times a week plus cycling and more. I'm not only in better shape--I feel better and have dropped a dress size....just in time for the pool :-).
Just an idea....Erin

Erin, good for you to suggest this great cause with multiple benefits. Raise money for cancer research, get in shape and make new friends in the process.
I do the Boston 3 day. I've met a great bunch of ladies and gentlemen in the process. And the training walks are really geared to folks who may be starting at the beginning. All are welcome!

I'm signed up for the San Diego 3-Day and agree that the training is a great way to stay in shape, plus it's a worthwhile goal to raise the money and complete the walk.

Didn't sign up for the 3 day walk - will be on vacation. But instead did the Avon Foundation 2-day walk this past weekend. What an incredible experience! Very emotional and inspiring - and a lot of fun too because I joined a team. Two of us on the team were survivors.
We did 26.2 miles on Saturday and 13 miles on Sunday. Not a single blister, but my feet are still swollen. I raised almost $3000 dollars and my team was the #5 team, raising over $60,000! I highly recommend doing one of these fundraisers - it makes you feel so good.
This is weird though - I gained three pounds during those two days! They fed us (A LOT) during the walk. And those sports drinks have a lot of calories, but this is ridiculous! Maybe I am retaining water...

Hi Munchy and all---congrats to you and your team! I too am signed up for the October 3-day in Atlanta. I've been training like crazy (and am only 10 months out from my bilateral mast). I'm up to 10 miles every Saturday & Sunday and 3-5 mile at least 3-4 times a week. It's been incrediable and many of my friends have offered to walk and train with me. I can't wait to be a part of this incredible effort---and keep telling myself that its my therapy! Erin
