You guys are freaking me out. I have just gotten thru 3a/c's which are the worst thing I have ever experienced. I am thinking of skipping last one and going to Taxol have 12 rounds to come every Friday. Someone please tell me its better than the A/C, I feel like I want to die on the A/C. Im really not a cry baby but A/C is like a chemo coma for a week. I am cancer free as it looks on pet scan and no node involvment. 4 cm agressive.

ttb, I just had this week lumpectomy with SNB and prelim results are clear margins.  I start Taxol on June 26 and then rads. I have not heard of SE for Taxol and like you would like to know what they are.  I really hope not to be as tired as I was on A/C, so if anyone out there can tell us more, I would love to know.

hi ttb i am on taxol right now and the only sideeffect i have had is hair loss and some burning in my feet and hands it is very easy on me but i take it weekly nor everythree weeks but the side effects are different on each person i had never had chemo and it has really nor been that bad i fin the zometa i have for my bones is about as bad as the taxol but now it does make me tired but i have bone and liver mets so that is rough by it self  god bless and you will be ok let the good lord be there with you  deb from ky

I agree a/c was like being in a coma....I never was so sick ever...I am on Abraxane which is a "cousin" to taxol...it is given in smaller doses but more often...I just got done the first series which is 3 treatments every week then off a week until I have 12 total treatments...the only thing I have as far as se is bone pain and some numbness in toes and I am loosing more hair ...I am very tired this round but I have to say it is much easier that a/c....no coma..I really think you will have the same with taxol ..

I had 15 weekly A/C treatments followed by 12 weekly Taxol.  I have to say that Taxol was the easiest by far.  A/C caused me to lose my hair and all my nails.  The hair began coming back during the last couple of Taxol treatments - however, Taxol did cause some minor heart damage that is repairing itself.  During treatment if you find yourself getting out of breath bring that to your onc's attention immediately.

tbbtrooper, please don't skip the last one! I had the worst time during AC - just like you said, I felt like I was in a coma every dam week. I was anemic and was bedridden literally for a week each time - and even after that week, I would not feel "right" - it was awful I can't even tell you. I did get thru the four - you have to just do it.  Have you talked to your dr.s about your side-effects and been firm??  My onc. would call me during these at home and I would cry and tell her that I can not go thru this and to help. I will say, by the third treatment, they did remedy it enough that the 4th one was my best reaction.  They had upgraded my dosage of arenespt, also, gave me an iron infusion as well as lowering the dose of my neulasta - by the fourth dose of AC, I was 50% better. OFCOURSE I wished they had got it right by the 2nd but unfortunately I dont think I was as pushy as I should of been. By the end of the 2nd, I was demanding something change. Unfortanatly it took the 4th one to finally get the doses right for my body chemistry. I will tell you, that if this re-occurs, I now know what I need! I feel so badly for you but you need to have a serious talk w/your dr. and try and change the last one so you can get thru it. I just know how important it is for your survival.  My heart goes out to you, you have no idea. Nothing felt worse than feeling thru AC. Please, Keep us updated ok? Ill say a prayer tonight for you that something changes.

Ps. I also know that Taxol will be so much easier on you. Since I had such a terrible time with AC, I, at this point was a bitch ha I told my onc. that I didn't even want to take a chance with Taxol and the side-effects and because of things I read about Abraxane being so much easier in the side-effect department, I demanded that I do abraxane rather than taxol. My onc. ran it thru my insurance and it went thru fine! It is a better drug than Taxol w/side-effects and the post above me was instrumental in me hearing about Abraxane. The normal standard treatment is Taxol but this newer drug is amazing. I feel GREAT. I have had no side-effects but maybe a little muscle aches and my head is totally clear! I can't tell you what a different world it is from AC! This site actually has info. on Abraxane if you put the word in the search above. Just thought I'd let you know about this as I went thru hell too.

Heidi, and all of you Thank You. Heidi I can't even finish reading your mail because I have too many goose bumps. At least you have gone thru it and I respect your opinion because YOU KNOW! I will write soon I just need to absorb your mail. This is so emotional and throwing me into menopause or whatever you call it, it has done a lot to my emotional well being. The  week of AC Bitch dosn't cover my emotions. I wont talk to anyone and my poor supportive husband becomes my dupping ground. The Friday after I start to re-bound and am bouncing off of walls just because I feel like a human being again. Today is the Sunday after no-chemo Friday. I feel so good, and dread what is still to come. Keep it coming ladies, God bless all of you! Will write soon. Trooper

Hi Everyone I just had my last A/C Tuesday. I don't know if it's better because I know its the last or because I took three weeks off in between. All I know is I pray to God I never have to do another one. For those of you who had more than four I applaud your determination and will power to survive. I feel guilty complaining of 4 and you going thru 15. First round of taxol comes on the 8th. I think it will be better than A/C. None of this is fun it all seems barbaric and I really hope all those pink things can give us better alternatives in the future to fight and survive this tragic, inconvenient, pain in the A, form of cancer.
