I thought I'd post this here as well as the Hormonal thread in case like me this is one of the few forums you are visiting.

Upset to discover this after almost five years on Femara and Protonix.

I thought I should bring this to your attention in case any of you on Femara are taking Protonix, Nexium or any of the other PPI's.

Being on Protonix and Femara myself, I happened to pose a question to Constantine about an alternate when I could not get the Generic of Protonix.

To my amazement and dismay I found out there is a problem because both Femara and most of the PPI's use the CYP2C19 pathway.

The one that is the least problematic is Aciphex which has limited CYP2C19 involvement.

You can find Constantine's post in depth at the No Surrender website under the post: Question; What is the Safest Proton Pump Inhibitor to use with Femara.

I'm going to get an OTC H2RA like Pepcid and double the dose.  If that doesn't work I will be getting a prescription for Aciphex and take that and Femara at opposite ends of the day.

I wish I'd had this info 4 years ago when I started Femara.

Funny I was always cautious and aware about interactions between Femara and antidepressant or the anticonvulsants-----but I never thought to question my GERD medicine.
