Does anyone know what it means when you have blood on your pillow case?  My mom has stage 4 breast cancer and is getting help from hospice, the hospice nurse told me that this was not a good sign but couldn't tell me what is going on.  Any suggestions?

    Ddoyle,

I am so sorry your family is going through this. The blood on the pillowcase--do you know if it was coming from your mom's nose, ears, or mouth? I am sorry that I don't really have any more helpful information about it than the hospice nurse did. I do agree that unexplained bleeding is "not good", but there could be any number of reasons for the bleeding.

From what I have heard, hospice workers are generally well-informed and very helpful. Do you think you could have a private conversation with the nurse to get clarification? Perhaps the nurse doesn't realize you don't understand what is happening.

Again, I am so sorry you are going through this. I am sure it is a very difficult time and it just plain isn't fair, is it?

This section of the forums is visited a little less often than some of the other areas. Maybe if you visited us over on the recurrence and metastatic disease section of the boards you would get more responses and information.

    (((HUGS)))

    Diane
