My DD has been quite ill over the past year. After many hospital visits, tests, and waits, she was diagnosed with horseshoe kidney.

She has had recurrent bouts of very bad pain, and has been told she is passing kidney stones when she gets this pain, and can spend 2, sometimes 3 days, just laid out in bed.

Anyone know anything about this, we have spent hours on the net searching for some information, and the best we can come up with is that Mel Gibson also has a horseshoe kidney !!

I was hoping to get her contact with a group such as BC.org, where she can interact with others in her situation. She is very depressed and worried about kidney failure, dialysis, and kidney transplant, as I might say, I am. It is awful to just sit there and feel you can't help your own daughter at all.

Searching the Internet night after night  is hard work! I find myself jumping on my pc whenever I have a few spare minutes now, but can't find a support group at all. (well, not unless I am a parent with a small child, there seems to be quite a few mother/small child help groups, but my DD is 39)

Has anyone heard of anything that might help her live easier with this situation ?? Just others with a similar diagnosis so she can compare notes and not feel so isolated.

She had a particularly bad attack over this last w/end. Of course, being a holiday w/end we were told 'no specialists available'....'ring again on Tuesday' I was left with  DD in awful pain, and 3 g/kids to cope with, for 3 days. DD would NOT go in to hospital, as she said she would be left 3 days waiting for the holiday to end, and a specialist to come and see her. She went to her GP Tuesday, and was given yet another prescription for antibiotics, and was told her GP 'would write a letter to her specialist telling him of her latest attack'....she came out in tears.

    Anyone?? Anything ??

    Isabella.
