EF CAN recover!

I didn't have ac (I had TCH) but had to stop the Herceptin early because of a falling EF. It was stopped with an EF of 49. But 3 months later, my MUGA had an EF of 44 (*sigh*). So on to the cardiologist.

It's now a year later (on Co-Reg) and yesterday I had my first echo that was NORMAL.  He said it was a substantial improvement and not only is my EF normal (58) but the heart motion was normal for the first time.  Apparently it just takes some of us a bit longer to recover from 'temporary heart damage'.

But I'm SO happy it was not permanent(like we all thought).  Now if only my hair would come back to 'normal' (*laugh*).

Anyway, wanted to put up some encouragement for others who had to stop Herceptin due to low ejection fractions.  I hope you're all as lucky as I apparently am.

    Janet,

Congratulations on a normal EF!  I too have heart damage - not from herceptin but adriamycin.  I have been on Coreg for a year now as well and my EF is back to near normal as well.  However, my understanding is that it is the meds that is controlling my heart damage.  I should be OK as long as I am on Coreg but if I were to go off it, my EF would go back down.

Did your cardiologist take you off the Coreg?

    Debbie
