anti depressants

I see many post on anti depressants. I would love to hear which seem most effective. I was given 10 MG of lexapro with klonapan to help till lexapro kicked in. But I've been on lexapro 7 weeks and still rely on klonapan. I feel like my body is just crawling with nerves. No energy and I'm a very energectic person. No enthusiasium for any thing I normally enjoy.I'm 3 1/2 year survivor I thought by now I'd be flying high and on with my life instead it's worse then when I was diagnosed. I get good days that go in streaks. Then it knocks me down again. I see a phycologist today. I hope to get answers ! Fast ! My youngest daughter gets married Saturday !!!

I started with 10mg of Lexapro after my 1st surgery in 2006. I had cried for 6 hours straight that day. I went up to 20mg after I finished chemo. I switched to Effexor 75 mg because of intestial problems I attributed to chemo but were the Lexapro. I just increased to 150 mg of Effexor. I prefer it over the Lexapro because of the stomach problems. It also seems to help with the amount of hot flashes I have. Especially during the night. 10mg of Lexapro really is not that much. I would talk to your doctor about it. I am coming up on my 2 year dx anniversary and found myself sinking into a deep dark hole. I am feeling much better now.

I was started on Celexa 20 mg back in October. At that time my thyroid had shut down from Chemo and the Celexa knocked me out for 2 days!!! I was unaware of the hypothyroidism and thought the cancer must be back because I was exhausted!!! I was thrilled it was only my thyroid!!! Anyway, I dropped the Celexa and after my thyroid levels were back to normal, I started on Prozac 20 mg(I had taken it several years ago). I'm now on 10 mg of Prozac which is lower than the therapeutic dose but the 20 seems to make me jittery inside. I was also having some anxiety issues so they gave me Ativan(lorazapam) for sleep. Clonapin is also used for anxiety but left me very sleepy the next day. I believe it has a longer 1/2 life than Ativan.
I too had a few sessions with a Psychologist-I was in that same dark place you speak of and it's not pleasant. She helped my identify what I was feeling and why. I had a hard time accepting that I was in TX for Ca.- how everything had changed in life and it would never be the same. Then the physical aspects-I can't wear alot of my cloths, physically I am SO different!!!! I could go on and on, you know. I'm almost a year out from DX and I'm just beginning to see some of my old self. I'm very thankful to be alive and plan to stay this way for the next 20-30 years!!!!! Please have faith and hang in there. Enjoy your daughters wedding. God Bless!!! Chattie

Okay, did you see the psychologist yet?
Do you have any idea why you are depressed?
Did something triggered it?
Did you have blood work done, lack of vitamin or anemic?
They say that meds. do not work for most of us until taken for 5/7 weeks... BS... for me, they work right way... sometimes good, sometimes bad...
As to most effective... every person has a different chemistry going on... I for instance do not work at all w/ the new stuff. I have been relying on two very old meds.
My personal opinion is that the most effective is the one that makes you feel like you (least amount of side effects), makes you going back to enjoy life like before....
I hope you are able to enjoy your daughter's wedding.
Good luck.

Klonopin may make you feel pretty down. I've seen it given for sleep and to reduce anxiety. know one gal who slept so deeply she peed herself in her sleep.
Lots of folks try not only different doses, but different antidepressants until the correct one is found. don't give up!!! But do talk with your doc about it.
I hope you also discussed it with your psychologist----even tho they don't prescribe, they know more about these drugs than MD's. At least mine did!
