I am 4 years out from partial mast and SNB, I have been moving boxes and cleaning one of our rental properties and keep getting pains in the exision areas, think this is normal? I have a really bad protective instinct since surgery and very often find myself drawing in my elbow to my breast and a stiff shoulder, of course I am right handed and the affected breast is also the right side.

Susan...All I can say is that I am also very protective of my affected breast and often have stitches of pain in the area. I'm nearly 2 1/2 years out from my lumpectomy and have never stopped lifting weights or stretching (as in regular, fairly extreme stretching) with these muscles. I'd hate to think how challenged the area might be if I didn't keep it "in shape." So I'd say that what you're experiencing sounds completely normal to me. I, for one, can't imagine ever forgetting to protect my left side (affected side) since my arm instinctively covers it even at the thought of trauma!

thanks Marin, I often feel like my instinct is so extreme, its like I  almost slap my husband if his hand even strays to that side of my body, I should have had mast for all the good this lumpectomy did for my morale, seems this is my life now, better get used to it and just suck it up
