We had a fun party on Friday.  I had a henna artist do a temporary tattoo on my head.

I tried to post pictures here, but can't make it work.  There is a link to my blog below where you can see them if you want to take a look.

    You have to keep laughing....

    Be-yoo-tee-ful.  Be-YOO-tee-ful.

And much more successful than my attempt at hennaing my hand a few weeks ago. The wristband was lovely but after 2 days, my wrinkly index finger came out looking like -- warning and apologies, this is graphic -- I had spent a life conducting ungloved rectal exams.  It just did.

Wow, she's an artist!  I'm wondering how long henna will last and does it come off in the shower?  Did it hurt?....it looked kind of like getting a tattoo.  I also wonder what the meaning of some of those designs are.  Like on the teenage boy (is he your son?) there was a design on his palm - I know my son would like something like that. Do you know what it means?

Your flowers and vines were just lovely m'dear!! Kiss

Boy, Alaska has all the fun.  I've never heard of a henna party!

Oh Deb you look beautiful...I love it!!!

MB, Sarah, Nate and I got henna tattoos in Florida...so much fun!

Makes me want a real one!

HannaB...it doesn't hurt...its like a natural "ink"...its put on fairly think...left to set for a few minutes and rinsed off leaving a "stain" behind.  Mine lasted a couple of weeks but Sarah's didn't take as well.  I think it may depend on how well your skin takes to the stain.

Once again Deb...BEAUTIFUL!!  Bugs and fishes

Deb, that is soooooooooo cool! I have my own henna kit that I bought a few years ago. I tried it once, but my hands are not steady enough nor am I artistic enough to risk trying it on myself. I did wonder a while back about the possibility of using the henna to paint on eyebrows that have fallen from chemo.

I so wish you were my next door neighbor, Deb!

Deb...what beautiful henna tatooes! She's a wonderful artist. Have fun with them. I did this with my girlfriend and daughter after I had finished my treatments. It was lots of fun. Mine lasted a few weeks.

Rockthebald...LOL at the ungloved exams!!  Tooooo funny.

Diane - I thought the same thing about the eyebrows!  So far, I still have a few hairs left on my eyebrows, but I just might try it once they are all gone.  Maybe I'll just paint on a row of flowers!  LOL....why be normal?

Hanna-  The boy, Bud, is a friend of my girls.  The symbol is a bio-hazard symbol!  Leave it to a boy to think that one up :)  He is a great kid.  My daughter Katie is the one with the dragoon on her arm.  I didn't manage to get a photo of anything but my daughter Carol's foot :)  A bunch of the girls spent the night and by morning they had just about every inch of exposed skin tattooed....we had a blast.

The henna is about the consistency of cake batter.  It can be applied with a tube that looks like a small pastry tube or with little squeeze bottle that look a lot like puffy paint bottles.  After the paste dried out a bit she dabbed it with a combination of lemon juice and sugar.  I think she said it helps make the stain on the skin darker.  You leave the paste on for at least 4 hours and then scrape it off.  Megan said that the more you expose it to water, the faster it will fade.  She said to rub my head with a bit of olive oil before I shower to help protect it.  The tattoo can last for up to 3 weeks, depending on how fast you exfoliate your skin and how much you expose it to water.

We order our henna stuff from an online place called HennaKing.  They have stencils you can order if you don't feel like free-handing stuff.  We got some with our kit, but have not tried them yet.  The kids just took off doing it on their own.  If you are going to order something. We found using the little bottles to apply the paste was easier than the plastic pastry cone thingies.....just FYI

    Glad you enjoyed the photos
