A friend of mine husband is having some issues in that area. He's feeling pain/tender on one side and lots of lower back pain. He's gone to the dr and basic stuff has been ruled out. They are a tish worried about TC. Do you know anything about it? Anything I could tell them to relieve worries? he's going back in but they aren't sure for what at this point.
Thanks!!!!!

My DH had an extra 'lump', as big as a walnut, he also had lower back pain.
Alarm bells rang, I got him to our GP. a.s.a.p. and he went in to hospital for a 'feel' and ultrasound. The ultrasound ruled out testicular cancer straight away. phew.
He still has the lump, it has grown slightly, but our GP says 'all clear, don't worry'.
Sounds like ultrasound can tell yes or no there and then, thats all I know, not much, but it might be of interest.

Hi Jill,
Is your friend seeing a urologist? That is a specialist for that special area, and he should be able to diagnose what it is without taking too much time about it. TC is most common from teenage years up until about 35 years of age, but there are some other things it could be. Has he had lower back pain before? The two symptoms may, or may not be related.
Hope he's feeling better soon!

He really should be able to detect a lump, but it's something like BC in that you can't always feel it and need to rely on imaging. I agree with the others who say that an ultrasound should be definitive.
And btw, it's recommended that men should examine their testes on a monthly basis, just as we examine our breasts. A man should stnd next to a stool or tub edge and place one foot on the elevated surface, switching legs as he goes from one testicle to the other, gently holding and pressing as he feels for any unusual lumps.

testicular cancer is one of the most treatable forms of cancer -- hence Lance Armstrong who was stage IV with brain mets and fully recovered. I have a friend who had it, had the testical removed, and went on to have two children.

My b/f in college had it. It had spread to his supraclavicular nodes before he was diagnosed. He had a tumor near one of his kidneys that started to cause him pain, but it wasn't lower back pain, it was more flank pain on one side.
He had several rounds of chemotherapy and his AFP (tumor markers for TC) went down dramatically even after the first treatment. After all treatments he had surgery to explore for any residual disease and to remove scar tissue left by the cancerous nodes. They did not find any more cancer and his kidney was able to be saved. I am not in contact with him anymore but as far as I know he survived it. And this was back in 1984!
