Paternal Grandmother - Pancreatic Cancer, died from

Does any one else on this board that does alot of online reseach see any pattern in the above situation as I do? It is like a possible light bulb went off for me and I want to share with my family....What would you bet that I might come up BRCA#2 poss?
-
i would say i am in the same boat! my aunt died at 42 of breast cancer, my mom died at 47 of breast cancer and there only sister my aunt has another type of cancer.
i am 30 years old, i have had dcis, both my breast removed and going under recontrion. its been 2 months since my surgery. and my older sister is 39 years old and has some sort of cerival cancer.
this is happing to my sister the same time it is too me. i keep thinking what are the chances?

Because I am a Veteran, and "free" to the medical help....I am requesting the BRCA2 Gene testing. This will cost me nothing, but will give my sister's and daughter a wealth of information. I hope, but do not think that this test will come as we think. My younger sister didn't even want to talk to me about this. Why are we so afraid of the unknown? She bascially told me, have the tests, let me know the outcome. What should I do? Carol

I can relate to you both. Ellie2006, did you get tested for a BRCA gene mutation? I'm 34 years old and my great-grandmother died at 32 from breast cancer, by grandmother died at 34 from breast cancer, my mother died at 51 from breast cancer. My mom detected her lump at 47 and was told she probably had cancer 10 years considering the aggressiveness and size. She was diligent with her mammograms and self exams too. I was tested in March for the gene and it, of course, came back positive for BRCA II. I knew it would considering the family history. I have started a blog at http://previvor2008.blogspot.com if you are interested in following along with me on my journey. I have opted for a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery like Ellie2006. My mastectomy is scheduled for June 16th and the closer it gets, the more nervous I am. I don't think there is any right or wrong way to precede in our situation. Carollyn, please let us know how your test results come out.

There is a website that deals with previvors and genetic BC and OC- www.facingourrisk.org.
I had BC and was BRCA2+ so I had a double mast and oopherectomy.
My sister tested negative, so it is possible to have BRCA in the family and not everyone has the gene.
Information is power in this battle!
Good luck

I know whereof you guys speak. Get my family history:
Father: stomach cancer, died from
Aunt: stomach cancer, dying
Sister: bc at 36--problems began at 29
According to onc. my bone marrow testing revealed no predisposition for me, but I am still wary because I have other breast and blood issues. Should I pursue other testing?

I just found out last week that I am BRCA 2 positive. My history:
Paternal Grandmother died of BC
Sister diagnosed at 36 (almost a 19 year survivor!)
Dad is a colon (11 years) and kidney (5 years) survivor
I was diagnosed at 47 with triple negative BC
I was diagnosed, again, this year
I have had two mastectomies and will have a full hysterectomy on June 27.

Crunches,
I would suggest seeing a genetic counsellor. Although BRCA 1 and 2 are the most common genes they look for, there are others as well. Your family history will help them determine what if any tests they should do.
Personally, I am getting the results of a p53 gene test on June 17.
