AMAS

I have a friend who has uterine cancer. She is not doing conventional treatment at all. She is depending on the AMAS test. I told her I didn't know what that was and that I would post the question here.
Is the AMAS test accurate and dependable? Is this the same as the tumor marker test?
You all are just so great! Thank you.

Apium,
A.M.A.S. stands for Anti Malignin Antibody Serum test. In this mainstream medical paper from 2005 (http://cebp.aacrjournals.org/cgi/content/abstract/14/10/2310) the authors conclude that, for breast cancer, "the AMAS test discriminates suspicious and malignantfrom benign lesions, but sensitivity is insufficient to identifypatients to be spared biopsy and false-positive rates are toohigh for population screening."
I only found 7 publications about this test, and none specific for uterine cancer. It seems like the test may indicate the presence of cancer, but it is not a treatment, and would need to be followed up with biopsy if the AMAS test is positive, and with treatment if the biopsy is positive for malignancy.

Apium,
here (http://www.pathguy.com/malignin.htm) is a blog from a pathologist about the AMAS test -- he is pretty negative about it,
but the most important thing, I think, to tell your friend is that EVEN THE MANUFACTURERS OF THE TEST (who are the authors of 6 of the 7 papers about it) say that it should only be "done in addition to other prudent methods of testing and not in lieu of."
So -- it's a test. Basically the only people writing about it are the people who manufacture and sell it. Even those people say it shouldn't be the only test used! And NO ONE is saying it is a treatment.

AnnNYC,
Thank you so much. This is very helpful. This may not be what she wants to hear but she is openminded and will give the info some thought. She wants to know the truth so that she can make the best decision for her.

Both the alternative breast cancer groups and the prostate groups have found a HUGE number of people with existing cancer show negative (no cancer) with the AMAS test. The test's inventor says it is 95 % accurate but that is so wrong.
Hang around on these internet groups a few years and you meet more and more people who were fooled into a false sense of security with an AMAS test.

Thanks Anom,
I was wondering about others like my friend. That's really sad how people depend on AMAS to reveal if they have or haven't any cancer, wasting precious time.
