    Hello...

I desperately need help to loose some weight & get healthy.  Over the course of the past 6 years I've had breast cancer twice.  During this time, due to lack of energy/exercise and too much comfort food, I've gained about 60 pounds.  I've tried numerous diets and have always failed.  My main problems seem to be portion control, lack of energy and willpower, and that I'm just always hungry.

I'm planning a trip to Germany to visit my daughter and grandchildren late this summer and would love to lose a considerable amount of weight before then.

Is there any help for me?  Please?

    Thank you,

    Marie

Marie, Good for you for understanding that the key to your health and keeping bc at bay is to change your lifestyle. When I finally accepted this fact, I felt so empowered. I realized that there was a lot I could do to make my body able to resist all the free radicals that get into our system and cause cancer. The number one prevention is weight loss, and the easiest way to lose is to eat healthy stuff only. There are so many books out there that motivated me. A lot of them are mentioned on the books to read thread. Check it out.

I am slowing losing about a pound a week by not thinking about losing weight, but by only choosing to eat healthy things. You will be surprised that after a couple of weeks, you will no longer want to eat junk, because your body will no longer crave this stuff. The other key is exercise, exercise, exercise. Start walking first. Listen to music. It is a great motivator. And do it every day. As it gets easier, pick up the pace and add hand weights, then do a little jogging in intervals. If the weather is bad, get a DVD and do a core workout. I love doing "yoga, boogie, ballet", because I enjoy the dancing and the yoga is really relaxing.

In any case, don't think about anything but today. Don't worry about the need to lose weight, just think about how great it is to feel you have some control over the BC beast. Take it one day at a time and just think about how great you will feel as you get healthier.

I just had my blood analyzed for foods that are toxic to me, and my estrogen levels. My holistic doctor is helping me to monitor everything and recomending the right supplements. Most regular MD's do not have the time or interest in helping with diet and nutrition. Find a holistic doc in your area who understands nutrition to guide you.

I also, take lots of supplements that balance my system and keep up my energy.

Last week I bought my first pair of jeans in years. I could not believe I could fit into a 10 and they are roomy. It has been 20 years since I wore a 10.I have lost about 25 lbs so far and  I am hoping to lose another 10-15.

I know I will never gain it back, because I am really enjoying my new lifestyle choices.

The will power is within you, and when you finally believe it, you will be successful.

You can do it too! I wish you all my best!!!

I go to our community recreation center and have found that I do best taking classes.  I do the treadmill every morning, but participate in aquacise, yoga and jazzercise, as well depending on the day.  The friendships that have developed through the years in these classes make it seem a lot less like exercise, so it's something I look forward to doing rather than having to force myself to do.   The secret to success is to find something you enjoy.

I am a lifetime Weight Watcher member and recommend it highly for teaching portion control and nutrition.  However, you can get a lot of the same information from books or on the web if you aren't comfortable with WW.

I don't want to discourage you, but please don't set yourself for failure by thinking you will lose a considerable amount of weight by late summer.  Assuming you mean roughly August, that's only three months away.  Most people are lucky to lose 1-2 pounds a week if they are following a sensible eating plan.   I lost 90 pounds over about a 14 month period a few years ago and it was slow going.  However, by taking so long, it allowed me to really change my habits and has made it easy to keep it off.  You can do it, too!
