My sweet, beautiful cat is gone...

I have no one else to share this with, my friends, and I know you will understand my pain & sadness. I woke up early this morning to hear my beautiful girl, Laci, crying from the other room. I knew by the sound of her cry that she was in some distress. Seeing her confirmed my worst fears....she was unable to move her hind legs and could only lay there and flop around, looking so scared and helpless. After calling the emergency clinic, I brought her right in and, after only a brief exam, the vet could tell that she had a severe case of cardiomyopathy and, as a consequence, had thrown a clot that had completely stopped circulation to her legs (I had noticed that her feet were very cold). The choices were to transfer her to the vet school where they could try to thin or blood....or to euthanize her. The vet said that even with blood thinners, the prognosis was very poor. Since my girl was in pain and so scared (she's a very timid cat to begin with), I had her put to sleep. It was only peaceful at the very end. Now she is gone and I can't stop missing her. Laci was my chemo cat and would sit with me throughout the months of chemo and lick my bald head.
I still have my little troublemaker kitty, Sasha Cohen, but I'll miss my Laci so much! They made a clay print of her front paws for me to keep and, oddly, it's actually somewhat comforting.....

Marin, I'm so sorry. Your story brought tears to my eyes. The bonds between humans and our pets is a spiritual and mysterious one, and very powerful. You're in my thoughts.
-
Marin I feel so sorry for you that your cat got sick. I had a cat that happened to get out of the house when we were in the process of moving and she has not been found since.
I have a dog his name is Harley and we just spent over $2000 on him because he ha a kidney stone and the sucker was the size of a tangerine--poor guy, but sinc the expensive operation he is back to his old self.

Oh Marin, I am SO sorry to hear about the loss of your little Laci!! It is SO hard when we lose one of our furry babies, but I know that it hurts SO much, when we have to make the decision to euthanize them... My heart goes out to you, my friend!!
Remember, Laci will be waiting for you, at the Rainbow Bridge, so that when you pass on, she will go over the bridge with you into eternity.Hugs,
Harley

Marin, Im so sorry to hear about Laci.
Im glad you were home & were able to get her to the vet.
It is very hard to say goodbye to our fur kids. They are Very Special & Always seem to understand us. The clay paw print sounds like a very nice thing for the vet to do. I think it would bring me lots of Comfort too.
May her Memories help you though the pain.

lag,
I am glad to hear that HARLEY is doing well!! Too funny, we have the same name!!!

Marin, I am so sorry about your loss. It is a terrible feeling as I know all too well. You did the right thing. We can do for our pets what we cannot do for our (human) loved ones when the time comes.
Crying with you....

{{{{{{{Marin}}}}}}} Dang it! There are no words to comfort, only to share that I too have been there with other pets. Most recently 3 years this summer. It's so hard to let them go. And I can truly say, it tore me up making that decision than ever losing a family member. I think it's the hardest decision a person can ever make, to let them go. Please know I am sending many {{hugs}} and thoughts your way. My heart aches for you and the tears are there in sharing your grief.
{{hugs}} dear friend....She will be running free of pain and waiting for you arms one day as I have to believe about my passing girls over the years.

I'm so so sorry..I know your painI'm so glad you got the pawprints - how nice...it helps when I read the Rainbow Bridge poem and listen to the song Somewhere over Rainbow by a Hawaiian guy....Iz I think is his first name
Love and hugs

Awe Marin - that sucks. I'm so sorry to hear about Laci. It's so hard to lose a pet, as they are part of the family.
I'm glad you're finding some comfort in the paw print they made for you. That was a thoughtful gesture, and I can see where you could find comfort in seeing her print.
Another loved one crosses Rainbow Bridge .

Harley44 -gotta tell ya how this dog got his name, it is kinda cute as he had his name before we even picked him out. My fiances name is David and yes he rides a Harley so I thought it would be cute to name the dog Harley therefore him being "Harley David's son". People get a kick out of that everytime I tell them. Lets see if I can get a picture of him in here so that you can see what he looks like!!
-
Marin, I'm so sorry. It's always difficult to say goodbye to a pet, but when you've looked to that pet for comfort during such a trying time, the pain seems much worse. It sounds so cliche, but she really IS better off...
My heart goes out to you, honey! -
lag,
Oh, Harley is a BEAUTIFUL dog!! I know that you love him VERY MUCH!!My name login name came about since we had a Harley, but my dh has traded it in for a BMW motorcycle, but I kept the name, because my friends friend, Harley, lost her battle with breast cancer in December 2006, before my bc dx...
Our pets really do help us get through these tough times!Hugs

Awww Marin. I lost one of my cats a few years ago and I still cry about it. He was like my child. So sorry about Laci. I like the idea of the clay prints...that is so sweet. May she rest in peace.

Marin.
So very sorry to hear about your cat Laci.
It is so sad, a sadness that is always in our hearts, as our pets mean everything to us.
I know its a cliche but she is now at peace.
Look after yourself.

Every time I lose a dear pet I swear I will never get another cat or dog....it just hurts too much to lose them. And then I fall in love with another ball of fur and it starts all over again.
I hope you can find comfort in your fond memories of your dear kitty. I'm sending lots of hugs.

So sorry about Laci. I know how bad you feel. I lost my own sweet chemo cat earlier this year. It still makes me cry to see his picture.
Hugs to you,

Marin,
I know how much it hurts when we lose our pets, and I have two cats now who helped me get through chemo. They just seemed to know when I really needed them most, and they would curl up on the bed with me at night. Thanks for posting that link to the Rainbow Bridge, CasinoGirl.

So sorry to hear about Laci, Marin. Sounds like she will certainly be missed...
I had to put my 22-yr-old cat, Sydney, to sleep about five years ago. She had developed a tumor behind her eye and started walking into things. She wasn't in much pain, but the vet said her quality of life was going downhill fast. It hurt me to my heart to agree to put her down! Never made a cast of her paws, but I did keep her water dish with her name on it. I miss her still...
Hugs to you...

I'm so sorry Marin. Our pets mean so much to us and when they're gone, it really leaves a painful emptiness. I lost my 'chemo' dog last summer and it was one of the most difficult experiences for me.
I think it was a wonderful, thoughtful idea of the vet to leave you with a clay impression of her paws. I hope it brings you some comfort. {{Hugs}}

Marin,
I am so sorry for your loss. It sounds like Laci was a wonderful cat! I know you will miss her greatly but do believe that one day you will see her again. What a wonderful thing that she was able to be with you and comfort you during chemo. As much as you loved her, I think that comforting you must have made her life complete.
Cats are known for not being as loving as dogs but we all know that they give the same unconditional love, just a little differently. I am glad that you have the paw prints to help you hold on to the memories of her. We are never ready to give up our pets, and I know the pain you are feeling right now. Please hold fast to the loving memories of Laci and the love you two shared. What a blessing that you had her, what a gift she gave you in your time of need.

Wink,
I think cats are special, because they are known to be more independent, and when they trust you, and show you their love, it is really something special.
I have two cats now, and I just love them both! They really helped me get through my bc dx and treatment, including chemo.I also lost my first cat, Axel, to cancer, and we had to euthanize him. It was SO SAD! It really was the hardest thing I have ever had to do! Thinking about you, Marin, I know the depth of your loss.
Hugs,
Harley

Oh, Marin, I'm so sorry.
I'm here crying, too. You did the right thing.

(((Marin))) I'm so sorry you had to go through this. You did the right thing and she is out of pain. . .eventually yours will ease too.
My girlfriend who lives in Winston-Salem lost her boxer last year and her vet made a paw print for her. I'd never heard of it before, but obviously the vets in NC are very compassionate the feelings of the owners.

Marin, I feel for you and the loss of your cat. We had a beagle for 17 yrs named Snoopy. He developed a tumor in his bowels/liver. He stopped using the bathroom, that is how we knew anything was wrong with him and the vet basically told us the same thing we could keep him on meds and that would only extend his life 6 months at the most or have him put to sleep. My dad brought him home so the family could say good-by to him. when my dad took him back to the vet's he took Snoopy's favorite blanket to wrap him in and then brought him back home wrapped in the blanket and we had a funeral for him in the back yard. This was nearly 30 yrs ago and I am nearly crying remembering the day he was put to sleep. I now have the basset hound Penelope and I don't know what I would do if anything happened to her.

Marin,
I am so sorry for your loss. I know the feeling and it isn't a good one. Know that you did the best thing for her and she is at peace now. Over my life, I have had to help a few pets along to their eternal reward and it has to be the hardest decision you can make. You did the right thing and I hope you are able to think back on her in the future with no tears, only smiles.
-
Mairin,
Sorry to hear about your kitty. No words of wisdom from me but I know how hard it is to lose a pet.

(((Marin)))
Hugs to you, my friend.

Crying for the loss of your chemo baby; I have a tuxedo cat chemo baby and she did the same for me, licking me for comfort. What a fabulous vet you have, explaining your choices and then giving you a memento.
