I had BC 5 yrs ago no spread to lymph nodes - lumpectomy & radiation.  This past Dec 2007 a 7mm spot showed up on my liver by MRI.  Feb 2008 the spot showed no change by CT scan.  Yesterday another CT scan shows 1mm growth.  Anyone aware of BC going to liver like this ... or new cancer in liver after BC?  This is my first post.  Thanks!

I am in the same boat. An Oct CT scan showed 2 spots on the liver--10mm and 17mm. In Feb I was dx with bc and the liver MRI showed only one spot on the liver but the 10mm spot had increased to 14mm. On Tuesday I had a breast MRI which showed the 14mm spot had grown to 20 mm. MY onc told me not to freak out as a breast MRI was not good for looking at the liver. On Monday, I will have a liver MRI. If it has really grown in size from 14 to 20mm, I will have a biopsy. If it  has stayed the same, my onc will ignore it. Rational being that since I am in active treatment and am going through chemo. I am halfway done through chemo and my breast cancer shows remission. Her rational is that if the liver spot is cancer it would have shown a change also. If it has not changed, then it is something else.

In your case, I think 1mm is within the margin of error and it appears stable to me. Have you had a PET scan or a MRI? What does your onc recommend as next step? Your next step may be different as you are not in active treatment like me. However, most of us have harmless spots on the liver and most of the time they are mean nothing. That is what I tell myself every minute. Wish you luck.

I see my onc on Monday @ 8am ... will know what he suggests then.  I've had one sister die from BC and another sis just had double mastectomy after her 2nd BC in a year's time.  So, I'm satisfied that my onc will be aggressive if he feels he needs to be with this spot.  No PET scan or MRI of the liver itself ... just the CTs.  Thanks for the encouragement and I will remember you as well!!!

My once told me that bc usually travels to liver first, freaked me out. I'm so sorry you all have this and wish you the best.  Apparently my surgeon said three and under can safely be removed, and that the liver repairs itself really well so I always keep that in mind.

My mom has liver mets, and her onc said that generally lesions that remain the same and unchanged tend to be hermangiomas.  Whereas, lesions that grow are highly suspitious of mets.  PET/CT is best for looking at them, as it will pick up any associated metabolic activity in malignant tumors.  Maybe that might be something to ask the doc for one of these scans, my mom gets them every 3 months.

hi all. i am totally amazed at reading this today bc yesterday i changed onco. this onco (who i like) is questioning the liver "lesions" from when i was cat scan and bx'd 10/06. the report is rather vague and def inconclusive. he now want another cat scan to note if there are any changes. he also is wondering if when the first onco was working with me, if that dr. thought that my chemo would knock out any possibly developing tumors. interresting , i find that with all the great equipment out there the bottom line is that they really DO NOT KNOW...until symptoms arise. fortunately i do not have any symptoms..just another breast cancer stage 2a survivor! i would like to hear from anyone that may alaso be in our situation with qustionable liver spots ..i had 3 "lesions" the largest being 3cm . i went thru bi lat mast, chemo (8) and 35 rads. now on tamoxifen. neg nodes.

They just found three spots on my liver this week. I go for a PET scan next Tuesday to see if they light up. I had a CAT scan this week, as I have been having ongoing pain on my left side. The cat scan shows nothing on the left side, but these three spots showed up, so here I go. I hope they are nothing. We'll see.

    Diag: 4/2007, 1.7 cm IDC, 1/9 node, stage 2, grade 3, ER/PR +, her2 -, four rounds AC, four rounds Taxol, Arimidex.

I dont' know if I had lesions, I guess this is the first they've looked at my liver. I never had a CAT scan before this week, except for one about four years ago when they checked my gall bladder. But I dont' know if the liver shows up on those. They never did a cAt scan when they first found my cancer, I had a PET and bone scan.

I'm not sure when I'll get my results back. They didn't make a follow up appointment. And I haven't lost weight, or been nauseus, or had my appetite change, absolutely nothing different. So I'm hoping for the best, but gosh, this is all so scary.

I see where you posted that you havene't had any changes either? Hopefully both of us are still NED.
