What's on your "Life List"??
Comments
-
I was reading RealSimple magazine this weekend, and they were asking about what 3 things are on your "to do" list in life. I'm not a real goal-oriented person, but there are some things I'd like to do and places I'd like to go:
1. Make a quilt (this, however, includes "learn to sew")
2. Small boat cruise into the Inside Passage of Alaska to view glaciers and wildlife up close and personal
3. Make a barrel of really good wine
I'm sure that list will change as I see what others are thinking, and I say, "oh, yeah, me too!"
So, what's on your life list?
Anne

-Itallian/Med/Greece cruise to include taking my dh to the Parthenon and show him the peice of column I sat on and decided I was in love with him.
-See my 38 yo daughter and 36 year old son with people who make them happy.
-Become passionate about something!(however, I've been passionate about Many, Many things, so maybe just quiet is ok,too)
-see my dh truly happy about something and smiling and laughing-maybe a grand baby?
-make more friends and travel with them.(all my friends now are either widows and/or have Very limited incomes or physical problems)

Anne.....great topic, I've always felt there's more I want to do! I'm one of those who would love to experience many things if I had nine lives......I don't know if that would be long enough. Three of those would be:
Go back to school.....more courses
Get involved in Missions and Disaster Relief
Finish my cottage for retirement so I can spend time hopefully one day sharing the joy of the outdoors and nature with grandchildren and family.
-
Move to Scotland!! :-)

My list:
1) Go back to Paris as many times as I can (and get better at my French).
2) Take my daughter to her birth country.
3) Fix-up my house so that I can sell it, or not want to sell it!
-
Anne, what a great thread! I can't possibly limit my list to three items, but here is a start:
1. Learn to quilt - -that is one of mine, too! I know how to sew but I don't own a sewing machine.
2. Learn to speak Portuguese. (I already speak Spanish so it shouldn't be too hard - -there are a lot of Brazilians living in my area and that is what is motivating me.)
3. Study Chinese and re-learn what I've forgotten since studying in in college. (If you haven't already figured it out I am crazy about languages!)
4. Work as an interpreter again. (Before my son was born I was a freelance medical interpreter.)
5. Become a really good knitter.
6. Live somewhere in Latin America with my son for at least a few months.
7. Buy a house with a yard and learn to garden.
See, I told you my list was long, and I'm just getting started. This is a great way to "move beyond" - -thanks!
-
Anne,
What a good idea.
1--see both my sons happily married
2--see my husband finally buy an airplane like he has wanted to do all his life He's one of those people who give to others but have a hard time giving big to themselves--I've got him convinced and he's looking.
3--live remotely, more simply, grow my own veggies, sleep in the rhythm of the earth and not by the clock, hear the surf while I am lying in bed at night, see the stars on a regular basis without light pollution......
4--take my husband to Europe
Can I add on? I don't want to stop........
Sue
P.S. Lauren you don't need a sewing machine to quilt! Buy the book "Georgia Bonesteel Lap Quilting", has the basic principles of quilting and many old square designs included....hand quilting makes you feel as if you are in touch with something ancient, hundreds of years of women not letting the scraps go to waste. It's an amazing feeling to finish a quilt and know that you put in every stitch by hand. So what if it takes a year? It's the perfect "faith in the future" project.
-
I knew someone would remind me of something big to add to my list!
Viv, I really want to do a medical mission somewhere. We focus on developing nations, but we have so many underserved areas in our own country, too. I have looked into a few companies--don't want a religious-based one.
Yes, I will do this in the next three years.
And, Viv, what do you want to do with school and more courses? Get specific for me--what's your dream here?
Anne
-
1. Clear out my studio and create place where women will gather to make creative gifts.
2. Plant a butterfly garden.
3. Work on my altered books.
I have more but I was following the rules!
-
1. To be happy and healthy. I don't know what it will take to get me there but I will do whatever it takes.
2. To travel to the places that I have never seen before, France, Italy, Australia, Scotland, and many more.
3. To slow down in life and give less to my job and more to my family.
4. To simplify my life and have more time for myself and family.
My list is longer but these are the things that I want to accomplish now since BC came into my life. I've had my wake up call!!!
Kerry
-
1. I want to buy a tractor.
That's all for today.
Bren
-
I too have had a wake up call since BC and my list has changed.
1. to travel to Hawaii and spend some time with my son while he is stationed in Hawaii
2. take time off work and go with my husband more in the semi (what was I thinking!)
3. slow down in my life and learn to say no when somebody wants me do do something for them.
Anne - I will give you quilting lessons if you take me to Colorado with you.
Sheila
-
Mine is simple....I want to live 5 years. I want that long so I get both my daughters into college.
Deb C
-
1. To see all of my children grown with Christian spouses and great families.
2. To travel and see things in person that I have seen in the movies: Scotland, Australia, New Zealand, etc.
3. To have a happy marriage again. Since the breast cancer thing, our marriage has been sort of stale and needs a boost of happy.
I am sure I could list more, but will live vicariously through everyone elses lists.

Live to see my grandchildren! That's a tall order considering I was 38 when my daughter was born!
Have get married again and live happily ever after!
-
Bren, what kind? We're John Deere fans at our house.
AKDeb, make it 25, at least. That'll get 'em through college, happily married and keeping you busy with the grandkids. Anyhow, you gotta stick around to keep the bears out of the garden. Hope bigger!
Ravdeb, you're an inspiration. I was reading everyone's list and couldn't think of anything until you posted. So I'll join you:
1. I'd love to clean out all the accumulated "stuff" and open up space to get women together to create. Maybe even men.
And,
2. I want to improve lymphedema awareness, diagnosis, treatment, doctor and nurse training in the field of lymphology, and insurance provision for all who suffer from it. Hmmm...that may be a couple of lifetime's worth!

First to have my old energy back.
Then to somehow pay back my sister who selflessly helps me to this day.
Then to go to Borneo and help with Chimps or Oraguatans.
-
What a great thread!!
Here's my list:
1. Finish my book about my journey w/bc and the dirty little secret that goes along with it--my truncal, abdominal, arm, & hand LE. I'm at the editing stage and "blocked." Editing is really, really hard work!!
2. Work on the north side of the garden and put in a labyrinth.
3. Get my house organized--like recipes, photos, and that blasted paperwork that seems to get out of hand so easily.
4. Live long enough to see my granddaughter grown, married to someone she really loves, and perhaps a great granddaughter.
5. Go back to Hawaii w/hubby on our 50th anniversary, or perhaps a trip to Ireland--his father's relatives birthplace.
Sorry, I couldn't do 3 either.
-
Anne, This is such a neat topic! And I have always wanted to make a quilt that tells a story since seeing the movie How to Make an American Quilt...but I have no patience sewing!
1. Be a grandmother preferably to a grand-daughter!
2. Buy about 25 acres...build a house with a fantastic kitchen. Have lots of dogs, cats, cows, pigs, donkeys, horses that would all live to be very old and be well cared for.
3. Buy an RV and travel across the country with my hubby, and dogs Skeeter Bug and Bailey Boo. The dogs love to ride! I'd go to Martha's Vineyard, Niagara Falls, Yellowstone, Redwood Forest then zig zag thru the middle of the states stopping whenever we wanted!
-
Just three? That's tough, but I think I'd like to:
- Travel to Japan to train (after I get my black belt)
- Someday visit China and Africa's west coast
- Keep the women's magazine I publish in print - and moving forward
Sorry! Couldn't resist adding:- Being around to play with my grandkids
- Buy a motor cycle really soon
- Travel across country with h2b in an RV
-
OK, but I have to keep updating it.
1) marry a guy whose interests and values are like mine, no matter how long it takes to find him. <DONE, at age 35>
2) buy a large tract of rural land that has trees, creeks, ponds, wildlife. <DONE, at age 40>
3) build a house that is designed around our lifestyle and interests <DONE, at age 46>
4) own a boat that we can live on and use to travel up and down navigable rivers in the eastern U.S. <DONE, at age 55 (the boat, not the traveling)>
That means I can add more, right?:
5) travel to Europe to see the places my family's ancestors are from.
6) work on my own family's genealogy until I finally find out: a) why my mom's ancestors decided to come to North America and how they got here; and b) whether my dad still has distant cousins in Chile, where they went instead of coming to North America from Switzerland like my dad's grandfather did.
7) get to the point in my life when I am no longer thinking about breast cancer every day.

1) Move to San Diego!
2) Visit Hawaii and Ireland
3) Adopt a puppy (a Yorkie
)
4) See my 24 year old daughter get a great job/husband/kids
5) See my daughter NOT have to deal with BC
6) Be happy (like I was before BC)
7) Not worry 24/7 that I have/will have mets

Isn't this what was called the "Bucket List" in the movie of the same name? I haven't really considered a list but should I be able to financially retire, I would love to be a patient/educational advocate. Got it in my thoughts that it's a job I could do well and is needed to help people get through the maze.
-
Grace, a book? Can't wait to read it!
Felicia, where can I find your magazine?
Sheila, your room is waiting for you!!

Great subject!
I've always wanted to travel to England, specifically to Liverpool, because I'm a Beatles fanatic and I want to see and breathe Liverpool. I want to do the whole touristy thing, take bus tours, go to the "famous" sites, etc.
Move and live somewhere different. I have so many problems/issues with where I live, but I'm constrained by custody issues. I desperately miss my family and my culture, plus I've developed severe allergies and asthma here that are scary. I want to uproot and make a fresh start.
Return to Italy. I went there in high school and it was amazing. My b/f is 1/4 Italian and I would love to go there with him.
Thanks for asking!
-
Anne.....HA! You want specific??? Hmmmm okay......if I had nine lives and went back to school number one would be in the Human Services Field. My love right now is working in the Developemental Services Field. I love the people I support and want to become more of an advocate for people with disabilities, to promote an inclusive society for all.
If I have time after that I would like to take Real Estate and Financial Investing courses.
Hey....I want to go with you on medical missions.....got to squeeze that in. I am not a nurse but a certified Personal Support Worker.
My list of been there done that is as long as want to's! haha.....another thread maybe???
-
Great thread. . .
- See my daughters find their soulmates and live happy productive lives (that include more grandchildren for me!)
- Find the passion in my marriage again. We're still doing OK, but emotional and physical struggles in recent years have taken their toll.
- See my grandchildren grow up and be happy. Be a great-grandmother.
- Cruise anywhere
-
Is this a Bucket List? LOL Has anyone seen the movie? I did and wondered why I didn't have a list of things I wanted to accomplish in my life.
Basically, I just want to know that I've made a positive impact on some people's lives. That would be reason for living.

I want to live long enough to see my babies grow up.
I want to stop thinking about cancer 24/7
I want to get to a point where I'm not thinking of finances 24/7
I want to take my children somewhere in an airplane
I want to travel like a lot of others here but don't think it will ever really be able to happen
