No more tamoxifen, but gaining weight

Hi, My onc stopped my tamoxifen a few weeks ago because of my unbearable hotflashes.  I've been on it for four years with no side effects at all, except for the hot flashes.  I've been cancer free for almost five years now.  My question is for the past few weeks I've been really packing on the weight.  I'm eating much healthier foods, no foods after 8:30 p.m., etc.  I'm also constipated to the point where I have to take exlax to go.   That's the only thing that has changed in my life in the last month or so.  I know there are women who gained weight when they started it, but I wonder if anyone had problems going off it.

    Thanks,

    Mary

drugs do affect us in different ways...check with your doctor...hormones do as well...increasing your fluid intake and good fiber maybe will help with constipation.  my sister is 9 years in remission and tells me she has problems with constipation...she has tried various things..fiber cereal...flax oil...and tells me lately that green tea has helped...

Good luck...thanks for sharing, my doctors want me to start tamoxifen after radiation and I've wondered how the vast majority of breast cancer patients have responded to the effects of tamoxifen

Hi, Mary.  I'm on Arimidex and gaining weight, so I can't help you there, but I can tell you that stirring 2 TBS of molasses into a small glass of warm water and drinking it before bedtime will likely keep you going.  It tastes terrible, but it worked like a charm for me during chemo, when nothing else did.  It may be gentler on your system than OTC laxatives.

Never thought about molasses, it has potassium in it as well, a good plus!
