FISH TEST NOT RECEIVED

    MY WIFE SURGERY HAS BEEN DONE AND HER RIGHT BREAST BEING REMOVED WITH LIMB NODES, HER RESULT IS ER+ AND PR+, HER AC CHEMO ALLREADY STARTED AND ONE DAY ITS DONE NOW SECOND WILL BE DONE AFTER EVERY 15 DAYS TOTAL WILL BE 04 CYCLE AND THEN BELEIVE THEY WILL START TAXON CHEMO WITH 04 CYCLES.DOCTOR ASKED FOR FISH TEST, TILL DATE SAME BEING NOT RECEIVED AND NOW PATHOLIGIST IS SAYING HE IS NOT GETTING ANY RESULT, NEITHER NGTV NOR POSITIVE. WHAT NEXT TO BE DONE OR SUPPOSE TO BE DONE.

    NOW DAYS SHE IS ON AC CHEMO WITH TOTAL 04 CYCLES, EVERY AFTER 15 DAYS, 0NE HAS BEEN DONE.

    Khan....Ask your wife's oncologist or surgeon to order another FISH. Often, a less expensive test, IHC, is done first to see if there is strong indication of Her2/neu overexpression and then a FISH is done if there is question. But many hospital and clinics are beginning to use FISH as the first test and, in my opinion, that's a good thing. The FISH is more sensitive and reliable. I've never heard of anyone getting no result from a FISH, but it's possible that the sample didn't have enough malignancy to get an accurate read. They can take another tissue sample and repeat the test. You certainly need to know if she's Her2-positive or Her2-negative because if she's positive, there's more therapy available in the form of Trastuzumab (Herceptin).
