which way do I go first?

A couple weeks ago I woke up with a horrible rash. I tried every OTC cream and nothing worked. I went to my PCP who said if it was fungal it would show up with this lamp thing. Well she did it and nothing showed. So she prescribed another cream and scheduled me for a mammogram. She said if the cream didnt get rid of it within a week to go to a breast doctor. Fast forward to this week.

I went for the mammo. They kept calling me back in for more. Then they said I needed an ultrasound. After that they called in the doctor who said I have a lump but it was probably nothing to worry about. But he still wanted me to get it biopsied. Well the next morning I woke up extremely inflamed and my bra was very tight on that left side. I called the breast center back and they said they didnt want to do the biopsy now because it would cause too much discomfort. They also said that IBC doesnt come through the skin and that it couldnt be that.

Ugh! My mother died from IBC at an early age. I know what it looked like.

So my question after all that. Do I just go straight to the surgeon? Do I insist on them (incompetent) people doing the biopsy? Im sick to my stomach with this whole thing.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

dlila-sorry to hear about this, i think you should go directly to a breast specialist/surgeon and demand a biopsy, given the history they need to move a little faster here. i wish you the best and hope and pray it is not ibc. hang in there, you will get thru this.

Absolutely... with your family history and concerns, you know not to mess around in finding out what's happening. If your insurance allows, get to a breast surgeon for that core(punch) biospy pronto.

    You need answers! Good luck.

    dLila:

I agree with bluesky and squeaker about going to a breast surgeon.   When the doctor told you that IBC does not come through the skin.  They are wrong my tumor was on the outside of my breast and I was able to see it shrink with every chemo session.

So I picked up my mammo and ultrasound and have them. I made an appointment with a surgeon and made sure he was familiar with IBC. He was concerned enough to come in on Monday and meet with me on his day off. I have an appointment for the biopsy early Tuesday so hopefully I will know something by the end of the week.

Has anyone had any other symptoms? I have the strangest sensation that comes and goes. It feels like "let down" the way it did when I breast fed. Try explaining that to a man. lol

Luckily I have great insurance so I am not worried about getting everything covered.

I am just concerned at this point. If its not IBC then I have a really ugly rash!

Thank you for your quick responses and I will keep you posted.

I had the let down sensation also.  I didn't describe it.  My breast was inflamed enough that there was no question about it.

Well I went to the surgeon today and though he feels good that things will be fine he is having me go back next week to remove the entire lump and to do a skin biopsy. While I am nervous I am rather relieved that he thinks it will all be fine.

So I'll update more after that.

Thanks for listening and answering my questions.
