Calling all biker babes

HI ladies, in 2004 I found out about this motorcycle ride right here on the boards at BC.org. It's a life changing experience spending 10 days on the road with a bunch of great women who get it!!
Check it out. Would love to have you join us!!
Stacy
Amazon Heart is delighted to announce that registration is now open for our first motorcycle adventure for the year, Amazon Heart Thunder US! From September 4 - 13 this year, a group of intrepid breast cancer survivors will hit the highways and byways of California, riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles up the beautiful Pacific Coast from Los Angeles to San Francisco!
Harley-Davidson is generously supporting this fantastic event by lending brand new motorcycles to all riders taking part, as well as donating riding jackets. Women of all ages who have been diagnosed with breast cancer are eligible to take part. In addition to the riding positions, we also have openings for support van drivers.
For more information or to register now, please visit:http://www.amazonheartthunder.org/ or http://www.amazonheart.org/ and click on Amazon Heart Thunder

Bumping this thread for laq, just in case you are a biker babe.
-
Wish I was but dont think I could even hold a Harley standing up. My fiance is a biker, and I enjoy riding in the back. Thank you though!!!
-
laq,
We need support van drivers as well. Same great bonding experience just no helmet hair LOL!!

Wow.....this is awesome! HD is donating bikes that girls can ride??
I'm checkin' it out. I'll be half way there! (moving from FL to TX in May!!)

Sadly, I had to sell my bike after I was diagnosed with Lymphedema. It's in my left hand and arm...my clutch hand. My husband rides so I've become a back seater...
Linda
-
I'm a "back seater" too...but I love it!!! nothing to think about except the wind in your face!!!! This ride sounds great, I bet they would let back seaters along too!

Stacy
Sounds like it would be a blast, but CA is too far and $$$ for me. My fiance should be getting his bike back this week, and he is so excited (me too); we havent been on the bike since our accident last June so both the excitement and fear are there. Our snow has finally melted and it is raining right now (washing away all the salt on the roads) so he is getting antsy.
-
Laq,
Wish you could come
Just an idea though....IN the past gals have gotten their fare to Cali paid by asking people to donate frequent flyer miles. Glad you got your bike back. As soon as that wind hits your face and the sun hits your back fear will be gone!! ENJOY!!
Traci,
Yes HD lends demos for girls to ride. They kick in a jacket as well.
Linda,
East Bay?? You must be close to me! Do you have lymphedema all the time? That's got to suck but we do need support van drivers!!
G that goes for you to....back seaters need peer support to and we need a support van, and the van needs at least 2 people in it!!
Ladies, I'd love to have ya join us in one way or another.
Be Well

WOW! That sounds awesome! I don't ride, I'm a passenger only, but, if our cruise plans fall thru for sept., maybe we can do that, since my dh wants to make it a bike trip, anyway. Who do I call to get in on the fun?
Oh, and Traci, I'd LOVE to see you there, girl!
Harley

I did not know anything like this existed! Too cool. I'm an
"accessory" I make the back seat look good. That's my story and I'm sticking to it! LOL We are going to be in Gulf Shores during this time. Do I understand correctly that our DH can drive their bikes? I sure would like to keep this open for next year!!
Lynne

Unfortunately, no DH's allowed. This is a peer support event for breast cancer survivors. They can certainly meet you at public stops along the way and at the end of the trip but it's us sistas only. During the day it'a about raising awareness and disproving stereo types in the evening it's all about bonding and a pretty powerful experience.
Ladies who enjoy the whole HD lifestyle but don't choose to ride come along as support van drivers (Which are very important by the way!) The number of drivers are determined by the number of riders. Some years there have been 2 vans, some years only one.
For info go to www.amazonheartthunder.org
Hope to see ya there!

This sounds really cool! I have a little honda rebel, but have not had it out since my surgery....but it is warming up in VA. Would love to do the ride, but I teach and coach CC, so can't let my team down. Have fun everyone!
-
I'm also a 'back seater' and won't be able to make this...but wanted to chime in and say what a cool event!
-
Hi ladies-I took this picture yesterday-(bought my kitty a new shirt-tee hee) and I just wanted to share with you biker ladies..!!!

Ok it worked that time. That is one of my "Biker Boxers"
They just love when I dress them up LMAO!!
(I tried to figure out how to put pictures in and it took a few trys)

I think this is MARVELOUS! I've just sent them email to see if Canadian residents can participate. Won't be able to do it this year, but 2009 should be perfect.
The following picture was taken on the Confederation Bridge that links Prince Edward Island to New Brunswick. This was my last long distance trip done in 2006. We rode all over Ontario, New York, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Quebec and finally back home to Ontario. It was such a memorable trip.

Stacy,
I live in Antioch. My Lymphedema has gone into hiding since my failed TRAM in January, but I know it's lurking! I just had my second Mastectomy last Tuesday so I'll be healing for a while.
This really looks like a ton of fun! I'm still debating about trying a different recon again, so September is an iffy month as it's also Street Vibrations. But I will think about this...
Linda
-
Nicky,
Anyone from any country can participate. We actually had a gal in 05 from South Africa!! That is an awesome pic by the way, Sounds like a really great trip. Would love to see ya next year!!
Linda,
Your only about 35 minutes from me! We will actually be back from the trip 2 weeks before street vibes. We had a gal with us who had lymphedema a few years back and it was really cool, she had a few pairs of sleeves and she had them dyes different colors to go with whatever she was wearing. Hope you mend quickly!!
Be Well ladies,
Stacy

Harley... girls: I have to download a picture I took for you girls in Savannah, GA a couple of weeks ago while on vacation there... LOL!
-
When I saw these "bikes" I so much thought about all of you Biker Girls... (
you should know my twisted humor by now...
)
-
Bumping for all biker girls (LOL)!
-
Wow! I am so glad I Googled bikers and BC. I am thrilled to have found y'all. I am newly diagnosed and will not be able to participate this year, I think I will be just a tad bit busy this year with all the "treatment stuff" I will have to do, but mark my words... I will be there next year! HarleyHoney.... you have now become my inspiration. I too am a RN, been ridin' for many years and want to continue doing so. I want to go back to Sturgis, back to Georgia and Tennessee and to California. It will be so nice to be able to talk to someone who I can truely relate to on a few different levels.
-
Donna,
Will be looking forward to riding with you next year. When I did my first ride in 04 I was exactly one year out from chemo. My 5 year anniversary with NED is May 22.
I have been riding a pretty long time myself.
I don't make it to the boards very often any more but would be glad to talk with you! I will private message you my email. Contact me any time. I also have a myspace that I hang out at.
Lilia,
LMAO!!!!
Be well ladies
