Hello, my name is Melissa and I am 28 years old-I found a lump in my left breast that concerned me a while back, but I didn't think it was that big of a deal since I am young-I went to my gyno for my annual, and I mentioned it to him. He scheduled me for a breast ultrasound for Thursday, and I immediately got results that they found a solid mass. Now I have to go to a surgeon for a consultation for a biopsy-I am really unsettled- I have two small kids-has anyone else went through this?

Hi melissa, good for you in taking the first step in getting the lump

    checked !

I too found my own lump in the beginning of Feb and it took me a couple of weeks to get it checked out. My surgeon did a needle biopsy ..I don't know what procedure your surgeon will use but either way it will give you piece of mind ....as not knowing is the worse part of it! When you know you can make a plan and it sort of gives you a bit of control over the situation

Keep in mind even if your result is not what you want they have made such advancement with treatments and surguries now that you WILL have a bright furture ahead of you with your kids!

You will find this forum a great place for information and has helped me so much up to this point, but one thing I learned (because i did it myself) is don't skip ahead into discussions that don't pertain to your situation yet. Just do one step at a time as you can become  overwhelmed very quickly.

Good luck with your consult with the surgeon and staying positive will be a big help! It could be just a lump and nothing else !!

Let me know how you are doing  Innocent

    Hi Melissa!

When my daughter was 21, her gyn found a lump in her breast during her annual checkup.  She had an ultrasound, and like you, was told it was a solid mass.  She was given 3 choices:  watch it for 6 months, and then have a repeat ultrasound to see if it had changed; biopsy the lump; or have a lumpectomy.  She felt very strongly that if there was something in her breast that shouldn't be there - she wanted it removed.  She had a lumpectomy, and the pathology came back that it was a benign fibroadenoma.  She didn't care that she had surgery for something that ended up being benign; she was very happy that she had it removed.

As you will read on this board, the odds are very much in your favor that the biopsy will come back benign.

Do you have your appointment yet for your consultation with the surgeon?  This website is fantastic, not only for information, but also for caring and support from people who have been where you are now.  We know how scary it is.  Take several deep breaths, and try to take things one step at a time.

Please check back often, and keep us updated.  Feel free to share your fears here, along with your questions.  Everyone here understands.

I'm sending calming and benign thoughts your way!

    Casey

Hi Melissa! I just wanted to say that I am 27 and found a lump in my left breast a little over a year ago. After much testing, I had it removed as well as the second area that was found when I had my MRI. Both were b9, but found out I have atypical hyperplasia which puts me in the high risk area. I am on a 6 mo. mammo schedule now, with my next in May. I too found this site to be really great and full of inspiration as well and information.

Keep your head up, the waiting is the worst.

As the other gals said, the odds are in your favor of coming out b9.

Best of luck to you and keep us posted.

Well, I consulted with the surgeon, and he suggested an ultrasound guided needle biopsy. He thinks it probably is a fibroadenoma, but he wants to be sure-I'm pretty sure it's benign, and I'm going to keep happy thoughts and trust God with it-thanks for all the comments and support:)

    Hi Melissa:
I found a lump when I was 24 - I could feel it and so could the doctor, but the mammogram and ultrasound could not find it.  I also had a lumpectomy and it turned out to be a fibroadenoma and it was benign.  I am glad I got it removed because I had piece of mind.  I am now 38 and in that time since the lumpectomy, lumps have come and gone, breast pain has come and gone and nipple discharge, which I am currently investigating.

It really does seem our breast go through a lot of changes, but it is best to get them checked to be on the safe side.

I am sure yours will turn out ok.  Believe me, I understand worrying - I think I have worried myself to sickness over the last month about the breast discharge.

    Good luck.
