Is anyone can tell me if they had a pap smear while on herceptin and if came back normal? I finished chemo in Sep 07 and I am still on Herceptin 3 wks cycle and would like to have a pap smear because I am overdue (2 years I have not had one). I asked my oncologist a couple of times and she kept telling me to wait as it might come back abnormal but cannot tell me how long I should wait. I really would like to have one to put my mind at ease but I am scared to received an abnormal result.

I had pap smears and regular GYN checkups all throughout treatment.  I think you should go ahead and schedule the appt with your GYN.  If your pap comes back abnormal you can get rechecked in 3-6 months, but if it is normal, then you can put your annual GYN checkup behind you.

I had a PAP smear while on Herceptin.  As a matter of fact, my oncologist was getting ready to get on my case about it until I told her I already had one scheduled.

The result was normal.

When I asked my onc if I should go to having a pap every other year he said that after a breast cancer diagnosis we are at higher risk for cervical cancer and he wanted a pap every year. So much for getting out of that test.

I had mine done a couple months ago and it came back fine

Thank you all for your info, I am 6 months post chemo and as per your info it seems that herceptin does not affect the cell. So I will go ahead and have mine done so I can put this behind me.
