    True - the only recipe I know by heart - Toll House Choc Chip Cookies

    Next person, another great cookie recipe please, here's mine:

    Ingredients

    • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 teaspoon baking soda
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
    • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
    • 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 2 large eggs
    • 2 cups (12-oz. pkg.) choc chips
    • 1 cup chopped nuts (optional, I omit - DH does not like them)

    Directions

    PREHEAT oven to 375° F.

    COMBINE flour, baking soda and salt in small bowl. Beat butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract in large mixer bowl until creamy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in morsels and nuts. Drop by rounded tablespoon onto ungreased baking sheets.  Hint: I line my cookie sheets with parchment paper.

    BAKE for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes; remove to wire racks to cool completely.  Hint: I underbake mine slightly *maybe a minute* and let them finish on the cookie sheet, makes for a nice soft cookie.

    PAN COOKIE VARIATION: Grease 15 x 10-inch jelly-roll pan. Prepare dough as above. Spread into prepared pan. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown. Cool in pan on wire rack. Makes 4 dozen bars.

    SLICE AND BAKE COOKIE VARIATION:
    PREPARE
    dough as above. Divide in half; wrap in waxed paper. Refrigerate for 1 hour or until firm. Shape each half into 15-inch log; wrap in wax paper. Refrigerate for 30 minutes.* Preheat oven to 375° F. Cut into 1/2-inch-thick slices; place on ungreased baking sheets. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes; remove to wire racks to cool completely. Makes about 5 dozen cookies.

    * May be stored in refrigerator for up to 1 week or in freezer for up to 8 weeks.

    FOR HIGH ALTITUDE BAKING (5,200 feet): Increase flour to 2 1/2 cups. Add 2 teaspoons water with flour and reduce both granulated sugar and brown sugar to 2/3 cup each. Bake drop cookies for 8 to 10 minutes and pan cookie for 17 to 19 minutes.

     Here's a recipe my aunt & mom used for cookie cutter cookies. We made them all the time when my son was young and always had fun together rolling them out, cutting them (I have every shape you can imagine, including a tooth shape to give to the dentist!), frosting and decorating them. I still like to make them at Christmas. The secret to their yumminess is the orange peel.

    AUNT MARY'S ROLL OUT COOKIES

    2/3 cup shortening

    3/4 cup sugar

    1/2 tsp orange peel (or a little more)

    1/2 tsp vanilla

    1 egg

    4 tsp milk

    2 cups flour

    1 1/2 tsp baking powder

    1/4 tsp salt

    Mix. Chill. Roll out, cut into shapes and bake at 375 for about 8 minutes. Frost, decorate, and enjoy!

    Chocolate Chip Cookies (Grandma's)

    The sour cream chocolate chip cookie recipe turns out a light and fluffy, moist chocolate chip cookie! Don't blink your eyes-these delicious morsels will be gone that fast!

    Ingredients
    2/3 cup salted butter, softened
    1/2 granulated sugar
    1/2 cup plus 1 tablespoon packed brown sugar
    1/2 cup sour cream
    1 egg
    1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    2 cups all-purpose flour
    1/2 teaspoon baking powder
    1/2 teaspoon baking soda
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
    1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)

    Hardware
    Whisk
    Large bowl
    Medium bowl
    Cookie Sheets
    Mixer

    Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
    Step 2: Lightly grease cookie sheets; set aside.
    Step 3: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt; set aside.
    Step 4: In a large bowl, with an electric mixer set on medium-high speed, beat the butter and sugars together until light and fluffy.
    Step 5: Add sour cream, egg, and vanilla extract; beat until well blended.
    Step 6: Stir in flour mixture; blend well.
    Step 7: Stir in chocolate chips, and chopped nuts (optional).
    Step 8: Drop tablespoons of dough 2 inches apart onto the prepared cookie sheets.
    Step 9: Bake 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown. Transfer cookies immediately to a cooling surface.

    Makes about 40 cookies.

    Badger...not only will I cook for you, we'll go to the farmers market  and get fresh fruits and veggies and eat till we bust.  Smile

    no, I don't have a cold but my DH does.....I've banished him to the guest room in hopes of avoiding his germs!!!

    False... I have all my original parts... but that is about to change... LOL!! 

    And, Ruth, your cookie recipe... is it 1/2 teaspoon vanilla (and not tablespoon)???  It sounds good, and I've never had a 'good' roll out recipe!

    opps, yes it's 1/2 teaspoon.....

    one wisdom tooth out years ago.....had such a bad experience that I left the others alone & they have been quietly been minding their own business in my mouth all these years!

    True... we bought it at walmart a few weeks ago... LOL... it has a slide and all!!!  It's plenty for an 8 and 4 year old ;)

    oh man, so true ... wish I had a pool and a pool man .. not sure which I want more!!!!
