baking soda and maple syrup

Hello Ladies,
Here is the monthly newsletter from Bill Henderson. The wonderful man that helped me with my Mom's first stage 3c ovarian cancer diagnosis 6 years ago. Unbelieveable story about a "folk Dr." who has given this simple recipie to people around the Asheville, NC area to treat cancer. http://www.beating-cancer-gently.com/nl118.html
This goes right along with the PH theory. Happy Reading!

Interesting Lisa, Chinese Medicine also agree's with fungus a bacteria as possible causes of cancer.

Dear Fla,
I'm keeping you in my prayers, and thanks for your comment. Read the Cancer Causes article I posted today. It has 5 parts to it. The bacteria come from the toxicity of the colon first. The real cause of cancer is de-differiantation of cells. I am convinced. This article explains it very simply. It was proved by Otto Warburg, and he won the Nobel Prize for it.
PS. I grew up in Cape Coral
-
Lisa - Dr. Warburg did win a Nobel Prize but it was for his "discovery of the nature and mode of action of the respiratory enzyme", not for his hypothesis about cancer cells switching from oxygen use to glucose.
According to Wikipedia, "the concept that cancer cells switch to glycolysis has become widely accepted, even if it is not seen as the cause of cancer. Some suggest that the Warburg phenomenon could be used to develop anticancer drugs. Indeed is the basis of positron emission tomography (PET), a medical imaging technology that relies on this phenomenon."
So, while he was a brilliant man, and he did discover this phenomenon, he didn't prove that it was the cause of cancer and he didn't win the Nobel Prize for this discovery.
-
Thankyou Cynthia for that reminder. Here is the speech:
http://nobelprize.org/nobel_prizes/medicine/laureates/1931/press.html
His experiments did prove his theory. Here is an exerpt: "Professor Warburg. From the start, your research has been focussed on problems of central importance. Your bold ideas, but above all, your keen intelligence and rare perfection in the art of exact measurement have won for you exceptional successes, and for the science of biology some of its most valuable material.
I take the liberty of mentioning those two of your discoveries, which seem to be of the greatest value.
The medical world expects great things from your experiments on cancer and other tumours, experiments which seem already to be sufficiently far advanced to be able to furnish an explanation for at least one cause of the destructive and unlimited growth of these tumours."
Here is more: http://www.answers.com/topic/otto-heinrich-warburg?cat=technologyHave you read his speech to the Nobel Laureates in Lindau in 1966?
It is fascinating. I'm looking into getting some hard to find books on his work. Do you have any other information about him?
Peace,
-
I've read both the links you've posted and I guess we have different definitions of "proof". Answer.com says, "Warburg also studied the metabolism of cancerous cells and in 1923 discovered that malignant cells use far less oxygen than normal cells and can in fact live anaerobically. This extremely interesting observation led him to speculate that cancer is caused by a malfunction of the cellular respiratory system." Proof and speculation are not the same to me. Perhaps, now that his theory of glycolysis is accepted other researchers will take up the cause to find out whether it comes before or after cancer.

Thought I would post the article from Bill Hendersons site. See if it is worth trying, certainly can't hurt can it?
May work, may not. If your digestive system is seriously compromised, probably not. However, wouldn't it be something else if this actually worked? Simple, non-threatening to existing chemotherapy and radiation routines, and if it works.... well, it works. If it don't, well, you had some "sweet stuff" for a little while. But it might be worth a try, and certainly nothing to lose... for whatever you think it is worth...

What?? Baking Soda and Maple Syrup??
**************************
Remember Dr. Tullio Simoncini and his treatment of cancer as a fungus? If not, you can reread an article called "Cancer Is A Fungus" in my August 2, 2007 newsletter. It's at:
www.Beating-Cancer-Gently.com/nl108.html
If you recall, I quoted several holistic physicians in that article including Dr. Mark Sircus. I interviewed Dr. Sircus for my web talk radio show a couple of weeks ago. We got to comparing notes. It seems we had both received a copy of the same magazine article from one of my readers. The article was entitled "Country Doctor Cures Cancer -- With Baking Soda & Maple Syrup!" There was no date on the article, but it was a syndicated article from Weekly World News written by George Sanford. The location (of all places) was Asheville, North Carolina, where I live.
The story told of Jim Kelmun, a 75-year old former truck driver and his success in helping people heal cancer using -- you guessed it -- baking soda and maple syrup. Seein' as how I'm a 76-year old former airplane driver who has helped a couple thousand people recover from cancer, I figured ol' Jim from Asheville and I had a lot in common and I better pass on his story (and Dr. Mark's reaction to it) to you, my loyal readers, and see what you think.
First, here's a short quote from the story, so you get the drift.
"'There's not a tumor on God's green Earth that can't be licked with a little baking soda and maple syrup!'
That's the astonishing claim of controversial folk healer Jim Kelmun -- who says his simple home remedy can stop and reverse the growth of deadly cancers.
[Kelmun]...has no medical degree and authorities are demanding that he stop dispensing his 'wonder drug' -- or face a prison sentence.
But his loyal patients swear by the man they fondly call 'Dr. Jim' -- and say he's a miracle worker.
'Dr Jim cured me of lung cancer,' declares farmer Ian Rodhouse, 64. 'Those other doctors told me I was a goner ahd had less than six months to live.'
'But the doc put me on his mixture -- and in a couple of months, the cancer was gone. It didn't even show up on X-rays.'
The gentle, silver-haired grandfather -- who has been preparing home remedies since 1954 -- says he first hit upon the miracle cure in the mid-1970's, when he was treating a family plagued by breast cancer.
'There were five sisters in the family and all of them passed away from the big C by age 50 -- except one,' he recalls.
'I asked if there was anything different in her diet. She told me she was partial to sipping maple syrup and baking soda.
'I figured, let me try it out on some of my other patients.'
Since then, 'Dr. Jim' has dispensed his mixture to more than 200 patients diagnosed with terminal cancer. Amazingly, he claims that of that number, 185 lived at least 15 more years -- and nearly half enjoyed a complete remission of their disease."
Well, you get the idea. When Dr. Sircus and I discussed this subject, it was obvious that the "goofy" article on "Dr. Jim" had made him put on his thinking cap (which is quite well worn -- Dr. Mark is one of the "thinkingest" docs I know). In fact, he sent me an article he had written on the subject that should interest any of you "battling" cancer.
You may recall that Dr. Sircus has a regimen for treating cancer which includes magnesium chloride, iodine, selenium and alpha lipoic acid. After reading of Dr. Simoncini's work, he added baking soda to his regimen. But even Dr. Simoncini recognized the limitations of his own baking soda treatment. Here's a quote from Dr. Simoncini:
"The therapeutic treatment of bicarbonate salts [baking soda] can be administered orally, through aerosol, intravenously and through catheter for direct targeting of tumors...[but it] can achieve positive results only in some tumors, while others - such as the serious ones of the brain or the bones - remain unaffected by the treatment."
Dr. Mark's thinking led him to an interesting hypothesis. What if, he said, baking soda and maple syrup worked just like IPT (Insulin Potentiated Therapy)? Here are some quotes from his article:
"IPT treatment consists of giving doses of insulin to a fasting patient sufficient to lower blood sugar into the 50 mg/dl. Then they inject lower doses of toxic chemo drugs [when the cancer cell] receptors are more sensitive and take on medications more rapidly and in higher amounts.
The bicarbonate/maple syrup treatment works in reverse to IPT. Dr. Tullio Simoncini acknowledges that cancer cells gobble up sugar so when you encourage the intake of sugar it's like sending in a Trojan horse. The sugar is not going to encourage the growth of the cancer colonies because the baking soda is going to kill the cells before they have a chance to grow.
The treatment is a combination of pure, 100% maple syrup [bulk Grade B from the health food store] and baking soda and was first reported on the Cancer Tutor site. When mixed and heated together, the maple syrup and baking soda bind together. The maple syrup targets cancer cells (which consume 15 times more glucose than normal cells) and the baking soda, which is dragged into the cancer cell by the maple syrup, being very alkaline forces a rapid shift in pH killing the cell.
The actual formula is to mix one part baking soda with three parts (pure, 100%) maple syrup in a small saucepan. Stir briskly and heat the mixture for 5 minutes. Take one teaspoon daily is what is suggested by Cancer Tutor but one could probably do this several times a day."
In summary, Dr. Sircus says:
"The maple syrup apparently enables and increases penetration of bicarbonate into all compartments of the body, even those which are difficult or impossible to penetrate by other means. These compartments include the central nervous system (CNS), through the blood-brain barrier, joints, solid tumors, and perhaps even the eyes. IPT makes cell membranes more permeable, and increases uptake of drugs into cells. The maple syrup will make tissues more permeable, too. It will transport the bicarbonate across the blood-brain barrier and every other barrier in the body for sugar is universally needed by all cells in the body...Both IPT and bicarbonate/maple syrup treatments use the rabid growth mechanisms of cancer cells against them."
There you have it, folks. Can you imagine this mixture harming you? Two or three teaspoons a day? Would I try it? You bet. It meets all my criteria: simple, effective, inexpensive and available anywhere in the world.
Incidentally, Dr. Sircus has moved baking soda/maple syrup up to Number Three in his regimen -- right behind magnesium chloride and iodine.
Thanks, Dr. Sircus, for your magnificently open mind and flexibility in applying your knowledge to new ideas. Well, according to Jim Kelmun, it's no new idea -- just another suppressed cancer treatment that works. -
i am just worried that if it didnt work you would be unintentionally feeding the cancer cells with sugar.
-

Not sure if this minor amount would make that much difference. But you have a point. I think I would get a baseline from CT scans, and blood work prior to starting, then in xxx number of months run them again to see the results. If there is less tumors, keep going, if more, stop immediately. But can you imagine if this simple procedure did work?

I actually posted this on another thread, but believe it belongs here.
Please note: the main sugar in maple syrup is sucrose. Sucrose is a disaccharide, a fructose and glucose molecule linked together.
Sucrose is digested in the stomach into fructose and glucose by glycoside hydrolase. Undigested sucrose is broken down into its component sugars in the small intestine by sucrase. From there, the glucose and fructose can be absorbed by the lining of the small intestine. The body has regulatory substances to control the amount of sugar in the blood. Excess sugar is stored as glycogen(starch) as a ready source of sugar. Insulin initiates the conversion of glucose to glycogen. Glucagon is the counterpart to insulin and causes the glycogen to be converted to glucose. Insulin and glucagon balance the glucose sugar in the bloodstream.
Fructose is broken down into 2 3-carbon moleucles by enzymes in the liver. Fructose has been linked to insulin intolerance, but it is still under review.
However, what is imporant is that sucrose, the main component of maple syrup, is just plain table sugar. For the alledged benefit of maple syrup/baking soda, it would not make a bit of difference if maple sugar is used or table sugar in water. It is the same chemical. However, if you are talking about trace elements in the maple syrup, that is something different.
The point of the matter is that maple syrup or table sugar contain the same chemicals that are broken down by the body in the same manner.
Soda can be used as an antacid in the stomach.
Sucrose never reaches the cancer cells. The main sugar found in the blood is glucose, and smaller amounts of fructose and galactose. Again, sucrose never gets to them little buggers to destroy them.
I am sorry if I offend anyone with this. I am a microbiologist by training and want to correct any scientifc inaccuracies, not to downplay alternative treatments.

I have been wondering about this for a while...
Who says Answer.com. quackery.com or about.com know all the answers. Anything you read about is so controversial, that how do "they" make a decision for the final answer?????????
I can't find two people who agree on must of this stuff any way.

How can maple sugar and natural product, be the same as our table sugar that is not a natural product anymore do to processing?

motherof4, thank you for your explanation, even though it made me crosseyed trying to understand it. I never did take to science very well.
I think all of us are at a disadvantage to know where the truth is. Alternative medicine is maligned as quackery, and I have to wonder about much of what I read. There's a book about iodine, for example, that suggests bc might be avoided by keeping sufficient levels of iodine in our systems. Sounds great. Why isnt' everyone just keeping their iodine levels up then? And this maple syrup remedy sounds even better. Clearly the pharmaceutical companies wouldn't like the cure for cancer to be something dirt cheap, but would they actively discredit legitimate information to protect their profits. My guess is they would. And since the pharmaceuticals are in bed with the FDA, the doctors, and the medical schools, what kind of education are people getting? All of it is suspect! <endofsoapbox>
Anyway, m of 4, I'm wondering if you might shed some light in a new thread for me about sugar. I'm not sure I understand your explanation of the maple syrup thing. Are you saying sugar is sugar is sugar? I have a bit of a sweet tooth. When choosing cookie recipes, for example, I try to choose ones with brown sugar rather than white sugar because I think the brown sugar is less evil than the white. Am I deluding myself?
-
motheroffoursons - thank you very much for the info! I have a question for you - if honey were used instead of maple syrup, would it be more likely to get into our cells since it's mostly glucose and fructose?
FL lady and Althea - From the Michigan Maple Syrup Association: the main sugar in pure maple syrup is sucrose, which is the sole sugar in the Fancy grade syrups. The darker grades of syrup contain a small and variable amount of fructose and glucose.
Cynthia
-
Cynthia, Honey would follow the same mechanisms. If they are simple monosachharide sugars like glucose and fructose, they do not need to be broken down in the stomach or small intestine by enzymes. They will be absorbed directly by the villi in the small intestine.
Of current concern is the high fructose syrups used in producing sweets and pop. Fructose is used as it "tastes" sweeter than glucose or sucrose. However, it is postulated that the high fructose syrup is the cause of much of the obesity in young people.
Honey also contains trace amounts of proteins that might be beneficial. The proteins in honey are from the pollen that gets stuck in it when the insects are pollinating the plants.
Althea,
Brown sugar is the same as white sugar, but has not been processed completely. The main advantage of brown sugar is that because of its unique taste, you might be able to use less of the concentrated sugar. Brown sugar has molasses in it which would also contain minute amounts of vitamins and minerals. It is healthier than white sugar, but still not that healthy.

Here is what my complementary/alternative onc says about sugar... in ALL its forms. SUGAR IS SUGAR... call it high fructose corn syrup, honey, maple syrup, enriched white wheat products, white bread, white rice and white potatoes. While I am know match for the microbiologist who wrote the informative info above, I listen to my onc and bought the book called "SugarBusters". It is out in paperback and does a great job of explaing what exactly is "sugar" and it does to the body... the book is not about BC, it is about health in general!!
Hope it helps and thank you m of 4 for getting the truth out there.
Robin
-
motheroffoursons - I was visiting my doctor yesterday, and he brought up a study that was showing that "high fructose corn syrups" are actually causing diabetes in our population. Somehow the body can't break them down, and ends up causing diabetes after so much exposure. (I will try to find that study later today)
Thanks again,
Erick

Hi,
This is very interesting. I first discovered it thru a post by "barry". It was interesting enough to spend all morning to find more information. Well, I don't know what to make of this, frankly. Just about every articles I read referred to this same "Dr. Jim and his sisters" and a farmer who was cured. Nothing else... Nonetheless, I'm willing to try although I have doubts about taking the baking soda as recommended by "Dr. Jim", or eating cookies cooked with baking soda. Anyone here at least tried this before? According to some sites and so called "researches", "cancer will be gone in one month". Wow, if that's the case, someone should have something by now. I don't mean to be rude or I'm not trying to discredit anyone. I'm just looking for some help understand this better. Also, I'm kinda concerned about the same thing posted by "sarika_for_mama" above.
Your comments will be greatly appreciated.

I'm a diabetic and wonder if anyone has tried this.

I asked my bc surgeon about sugar. She said, most foods are broken down into sugars...even meats. As I understand it, sugar transport nutrients to our cells...most cells. There are natural unprocess sugars that are better for you such as evaporated cane juice, like rapedura. I have a sweet tooth as well. If I'm serious about getting well, I must get serious about my diet. Having something sweet every once in a while is fine...its just a whole diet of starches that messes us up.
My doc also said sugar does not cause cancer. Cancer happens for many different reasons. I don't think there is a one size fits all for diet, cause, or treatment.
I also am not sure about the baking soda, maple surup concoction. As I understand the whole baking soda theory, it has to go directly on the tumor, not just once, but several times. I also think if possible it should be done under a naturpathic doctor supervision. I like being my own doctor, but the more I'm learning, the more I see how important it is to work with someone who knows what they are talking about. I'm a novice, as many of us are who are trying to find a magic cure for our cancer.
I'm not crazy about conventional medicine either. In whatever we choose I think its important to check out the pro's and con's before experiening with something that could hurt us. B
-
The way sugar feeding cancer was explained to me by my complementary/alternative onc, the problem with refined sugar is that it is taken into the blood stream so quickly that the body must release equal amounts of insulin to bring the body's blood sugar down to normal levels. As insulin is a growth hormone, people with cancer don't need to have their bloodstreams flooded with growth hormone at high levels as it can also aid in the growth of tumors.
But, no one is saying that the body does not need sugar as an above poster aptly pointed out, most foods are metabolized into a form of sugar to provide fuel for the body. The difference is that when foods comprised of COMPLEX CARBOHYDRATES are eaten, the body takes much longer to metabolize the food and releases sugar into the body at a much slower rate. This then corresponds to a slower release of less insulin to bring the blood sugar down as the food does not bombard the bloodstream with too much insulin at one time.
That is the reason why refined carbs such as white bread, white potatoes, white rice and white pasta are not recommended in high amounts as they are broken down in the body so quickly whereas whole wheat pastas and breads and brown rice, which are less processed, take much longer to be metabolized.
Although no mainstream doctor I have ever met will confirm the whole sugar/cancer connection, I believe it exists and try (and sometimes fail) to stay away from overly processed sweetened foods (as a lover of milk chocolate, this is torture for me).
I hope this helps.

Dr. Tullio Simoncini, an Italian Oncologist and author of Cancer is a Fungus, shares a safe treatment of cancer tumors... using nothing more than sodium bicarbonate (ordinary baking soda). Please contact me if anyone that you know has used this protocal in treating,Fibroid tumors, ewing sarcoma or any other form of cancer,It would be greatly appreciated

Just saw this thread and remembered a recipe my dad used to make with these ingredients. I think he had to boil it for longer, then used to add the soda at the last minute, it fizzed up in the pan and you poured it out into a buttered flat tray real quick, and when it cools down and sets you have got delicious golden honeycomb toffee. No idea if it cures cancer, but it sure cures many ills with small children!

This is just another proof of usefulness of maple syrup. Maple syrup is absolutely great because of its number of uses and health benefits. The only problem is that pure, real maple syrup is very expensive that more individuals can't afford to have some for their consumption. The cost of this syrup can go as high as $100 per gallon and because of its sky-high cost, there are those individuals who take advantage with the situation. In fact, a man is now facing costs of deception after attempting to market flavored cane syrup as "real" maple syrup. The Food and drug administration and state DOA in Vermont both tested samples of an item promoted as "real" maple syrup. The item, however, turned out to be sugar syrup. The incident pushed some to be very careful in purchasing the product and in fact, it is now being worked in the senate as initiated by Senator Leahy trying to strengthen maple syrup law. This law, if approved, would be of great help for the consumers to get rid of fake maple syrup in the market because it would strengthen protections for the brand of Vermont maple syrup.
-
Yes, hymil, I'm originally from Yorkshire and I remember making/buying the "cinder toffee" you mentioned as a child. Wouldn't fancy it now, though. There is a man on the British site breast cancer care, who saw the maple syrup/baking soda idea on TV and his wife, who has, I believe, stage 4 cancer, seems to be doing well on it. Always check with your onc. if you are embarking on this kind of thing, though!

I have not been able to make the maple syrup bind with the baking soda as it's supposed to. It separates on cooling. If it isn't bound together, the baking soda wouldn't be carried into the cancer cell and the maple syrup would feed the cancer cells.
-
I'll check this out later bitw2 to why it isn't working. I haven't tried it yet. Someone recently e-mailed me on it so maybe they've tried it. I'm pretty busy this week so might not get back here until Sunday or Monday.
