Twice from the same hairdresser I've gotten the:

 "Is that a, um, perm or....???"

And from casual acquaintances the:

"Gee your hair is, er, sort of different.  But, ah, it looks good, really."

Much of the time it actually looked like i had my finger in an electrical socket.  It still goes weird ways and no "product" is going to deter it.  Actually I kind of like it.  My hair lives its own life, I am not responsible.

CMB-I could hear you "talking" too, as you said, "That was my plan....."

There is a chemochicks.com website that sells great t-shirts (one of them having to do with hair),and they have an "Excuse Me?!" section, where people get to rant about the stupid hair comments/etc. they get. 

MKE-I totally say that to people as I see them inspect my bizarre hair...."I take no responsibility for this hair."  They always get frazzled then, as though they've been caught, and sputter some awkward words....

Hi Deb, sorry you had to deal with an idiot.  Hair stylists are something else sometimes.  I remember going to one and the last words she said were "You don't want it too short, right?"  I said, "Right".  The next thing I knew I had a haircut that was shorter than my cat's fur.  I could hardly believe it.
