On our news last night there was a peice on doctors in Atlanta that are testing a new diagnostic tool that cuts false positive almost by half, it's called steroscopic digital mammography...instead of seeing a flat picture they see it in 3-D...they wear these polarized galsses that bring the images together....they said this test has 79% accuracy....it means quicker diagnosis and fewer recalls.

It is still in the testing stage but I think it is wonderful and exciting!

liveit--another new technology coming out is CBBCT---cone beam breast CT--done much like breast MRI, but much quicker (about 30  to 60 seconds) and no IV involved.  It's being researched at the University of Rochester (NY)--I've been trying to find out about their clinical trials, but no responses from phone calls or emails as yet. It has been on the discovery health channel a few times over the last year.  It takes a 3-D image of the breasts without any compression like a mammo. But , like any new technology, it probably will be a long time until it is available to the general public as a regular screening exam.
