    Just want to give everyone some good news, Thursday will be my 5 year anniversary of the day of my surgery!!!!!!! 2.5 cm triple neg, did a/c and taxol, moaned and cried etc. But here I am FIVE YEARS OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    That is fabulous news and so very necessary to all of us who are either starting out, or have been battling the particular cards we've been dealt for some time. Congratultions and THANK YOU so much for coming back to share such positive news with the rest of us who still have the journey to make.

    Maywin!!!

    Congratulations!  You are where all of us want to be!  I remember when I reached the 5 year mark of my Stage III Ovarian Cancer at that time (surgery 12/98), I had only a 25% chance of making it 5 years.  I truly beat the odds and it was a time for celebration at 5 years and every year thereafter.  Do something special for yourself with your love ones, etc.  Make it truly a day and time to remember this year and every year.  You deserve & earned it!

    At least with a 01/08, breast cancer dx, the chances for survival have improved greatly and most of us do not have to worry about carrying out our final wishes, etc.  My surgeon & oncologist both told me that the BC will not kill me.  So if I can just make it peacefully through the post surgery treatment; yet to be determined, I know that I'll be just fine.

    Again, Congrats!  You are an inspiration to all of us!

    Hi ladies - just want you all to know that Monday - March 17 - I will be five years out from diagnosis.  I had a 3.5 centimeter tumor - triple negative.  I had 8 rounds of chemo dose dense - 4 A/C and then 4 taxol.  Then a lumpectomy and full node dissection - 1/22 - followed by 31 radiation treatments. 

    I feel great - I'll be 60 years old this year.  I do have lymphedema which I learned to deal with.

    There is life after breast cancer.

    Thanks for you good wishes.  I neglected to mention that I was also Grade 3.  It seems, however, that most triple negative are Grade 3.

    Maywin and Joann,

    Congratulations to both of you. Thank you also for taking the time to post this news. It means so much to people like me who face a poor prognosis today. Everytime time I start thinking about the dark side(every other minute:)), I get hope when I read about ladies like you. I know odds are against me but my odds for getting cancer were also less  lowSmile

    [[[Joann]]], thanks for sharing your success story. As everyone says, we need very badly to hear from those of you who have made the journey and emerged into the sunlight at the end of this dark road. Congratulations! Please come back from time to time to remind us that we can beat this beast.

    Joann- congrats!!! I'm so happy for you!

    Shifali- what a beautiful name, BTW! I see you are newly diagnosed. I wanted to know your story so I looked for your posts. Things are moving quickly for you--that's good, wanna be aggressive w/ TN. You are so young to be facing BC (I'm 46 with a 14 yo dd and a 17 yo ds). I elected to stay with my very sharp onco and not participate in clinical trials at this point. I plan to look into trials for TN gals after I complete my chemo and rads.

    I pushed for removal of my tumor quickly and actually had the sucker out b4 I learned it was TN. (My surgery was over Christmas break...All to save those sick days... who knew that I was shooting myself in the foot--or should I say boob?!) So, all of my chemo is a shot in the dark... that really scares me sometimes, but most of the time I choose to be positive. I've just finished AC x 4 and started Taxol x 4 Friday.

    From what I've seen from the TNs who have neoadjuvant chemo, I imagine you'll have a scan to see how your tumor is responding to chemo. If it isn't responding, I would guess that your chemo plan will change.

    Paula,

    Thanks for your note. My onc had hoped to see how my tumor was responding to the chemo to decide if chemo was working. But two days before the chemo my surgeon did another biopsy to test for receptors and he took out the whole tumor. I just found that out two days ago. Part of me is angry because now we will not know if the chemo is working but part of me is ok with it as the tumor was 7cm (when three u/s said it was 2.5 cms!!!) and I have peace knowing it is out. I will have a mast after four ac cycles. So my chemo is a shot in the dark too. My only hope is that the doctors could feel two of my lymph nodes before chemo and my breast surgeon could not feel the swollen nodes when I saw him this week after my first chemo.

    My treatment is moving very fast. In less than a month since diagnosis I will have 2 ac treatments.

    I was again up all night worrying about possible liver mets and who will take care of my babies. I think only you ladies understand what I am goung through. Even my dh feels I am overly negative and should simply believe things will be ok. It is hard to simply believe and have faith.

    Keep the faith, sister! I have that same fear about whether my chemo is doing the job or not, BUT... I also am very happy to be rid of my tumor.

    Anyway, who can understand what we're going thru as well as WE can? Come here anytime you need to vent. I'll be watching for you!
