I can't find any info...but is the "orange peel skin" always a sign of IBC?  Can you have it with another kind of BC?

Are you post-surgery? Lymphedema can make your skin have a bump kind of look.

Breast cancer skin mets are usually red and slightly raised.

No, I'm having my CNB tomorrow and this is a new development since I saw the dr. It's skin colored, not red. And it's hard to see because I have a lot of stretch marks, but it's not smooth skin between the stretch marks. I have itchiness around the nipple, and I know I probably scratch it too much, but that's about the only way I have discoloration.

    Thanks,

    Nancy

    Hi Nancy,

Thinking of you and hoping that all went well at your appt. Orange peel skin is only one of the many signs of IBC, and not always related to IBC. It sounds like you are being proactive in getting it checked out for IBC. Good idea to be safe. I am saying a prayer no ca.

    Hugs,

    Lexi

Hello to all of you brave women.  A lady in my Sunday school class was diagnosed with breast cancer 3 years agohad 1 breast removed and did successfully respond to treatments then.  But now she's battling IBC and will have to be on chemo for the rest of her life.  She tells us that the pain from her skin is worse than anything.  Can anyone offer some suggestions that I can share with her?  She's been consulting a dermatologist and they've tried but she's still in so much pain topically.  Thanks so much.  Prayers and blessings to all.  MegMag

I am not an expert but I think dimpling can be from a few things, one of them being an infection of the breast. Its good that you are getting it checked out, better to be safe than sorry. I hope it turns out to be nothing Laughing

    Shirleytemple:

Check with your state I know most states have some kind of insurance.  I know in Michigan we have Medicaid.   I would check this out and get into see a physician as soon as possible.

Also check with your local American Cancer Society or other local societies.  I know when we went through the pre-surgery meeting, they asked whether ins covered all and mentioned there were programs that helped with what insurance didn't pay.  I would think they would help more so with those without insurance?  Good luck!

    Hi

All these responses are great but Id like to add two things.

    1.  If I had orange peel looking skin that itched on by boobies I would get my tootie to the local breast specialist pronto. (spoken from someone whos been there)

    2.  Websites devoted to ibc can be a wealth of information.

            ibchelp.org

            ibcsupport.org

    A ll the best

Just wanted to update my original post. My biopsy showed IDC in the breast and in an axillary lymph node. My PET scan showed a mammary node involved, too.

I started neoadjuvant chemo in late March and the visible outer symptoms had pretty much subsided by then.

After two treatments, my breast looks pretty much normal again. I did notice a little spot of peau d'orange texture (normal skin colored) below my nipple after a hot shower, but my research and onc's shrug leads me to believe it is just from my compromised lymph system in the area, not IBC.
