Any Curves Members Out There?

    Hi Ladies ~

    I have been a member of Curves for almost 2 years and love it.  I go to the gym 3-5 times a week and really feel rejuvenated.  I mainly go at lunchtime from work since the workout is ONLY 30 minutes and you get the benefit of both strengthing and aerobics in just a short time. 

    I earned my 100 workout T-Shirt, 200 workout T-Shirt and am working on my 300.  I am currently at 250 workouts. 

    For any Curves Members out there.  Has it worked for you?  Most of the women at my gym have said they have lost weight, felt better, have more energy and really enjoy the comraderie Curves offers.  The GREAT thing about it too is NO one cares what you look like or what you wear. 

    Does anyone love it as much as I do?

    I just joined last week and was wondering if there were any others here going to Curves.  I love it - and feel really good after the workouts.  Anyone else??

    Hi,

    I haven't tried Curves, but a co-worker buddy of mine who is also a 4-year survivor (yay!) has been begging me to go with her.  She says she feels the best she's ever felt in her life, and she looks great too-- just glows.  Judy, after 2 years, do you still feel the workouts challenge you?  I've heard some people say that your body "gets used to the weights" since they have no weight to add.  Harborwitch, best of luck to you on your Curves!

    Thank you Mary Jo.  My understanding is that the machines at Curves work on your body's resistance - so as your strength gets better the workout increases.  I had to drop for a while - needed to check some medical issues not related to BC.  Now that that's cleared up I am back again.  I'll be seeing my Oncologist Thursday and hope he doesn't have any issues.  I switched from afternoons to mornings - its much cooler which makes it much easier for me.

    Hi Harborwitch,

    Thanks for the info about the resistance-- I kinda thought that was the way the machines worked, otherwise no one would keep coming back!  I'm glad you're going back again-- I still haven't started but there is a special offer at my local Curves that I hope to take advantage of.  I'm seeing my oncologist tomorrow too-- hope your visit goes very well.     I don't go to Curves now, but I did a couple of years ago.  I loved it!  You're right about the people there...they're a great group of women and the only reason I don't go now is I am doing other things to get my exercise in that are not as structured.

    Last week I had my first weigh & measure after 11 workouts.  6.75 total inches lost, and 3.5 lbs of fat!  We're modeling our eating style more to the GI or SouthBeach style.  I've only lost a little over a pound - but my body fat has dropped and that's a good thing.

    I have been thinking of joining Curves, not to loose weight, I'm 5' 6" 103lbs.

    I DO want to tone up and strengthen muscles though

     Would any of you ladies recommend Curves for this?

     My friend didn't like that they had no treadmill, is this standard, or just where she went.

    Thoughts?

    Hi ferretmom,

    I use to be a member of Curves but stopped because of the monster visiting me this past Sept.  With all the surgeries and treatment wasn't able to do it at that time.  When I was a member I loved it.  My curves didn't have a treadmill and I don't know of any of the other ones around me that do.  I think that is because they advertise a 30 minute workout and with a treadmill that wouldn't happen.  I am not going to say that no Curves have treadmills, but I wouldn't think they would.  The treadmill just doesn't seem like a machine that would fit into the 30 minute workout they try to provide woman.    Even without the treadmill I think you would enjoy Curves.  You could always ask for a trial membership to see if you like it before joining.  They are always running specials like that.  Hope this helps.

    I LOVE Curves!! The greatest thing is that you can adjust your workout to how you feel, and take it a little slower if you're having a bad day, or boost it up when you feel good. I go four times a week, right after I get home from work and change. I find that after Curves, I have more energy to do even more exercise at home-it gives me a power boost. I also used a 5lb weighted hoola hoop that's there, and loved it so much-it does great things for your waistline-that I ordered my own! My Curves does have a treadmill, but it's seperate from the regular equipment. I also joined more for muscle toning and strengthening, as I weigh around 128lb. I feel so much better since going there.

    Hi there...I too love Curves, but I do not get there enough...we do have a friendly group so workouts are fun

    Hi!  I am so excited-- I plan on going for my first Curves visit this afternoon after I get off work.  A co-worker/friend of mine who is also a 4-year BC survivor is going and she got me a free weekly pass.  She says it has made all the difference in the world in how she feels and she has lost 7 pounds by just doing Curves and not changing the way she eats. 

    I think if you just ask they will give you free visits to come in and try them out and will also let you know in advance about the upcoming specials.  I'm looking forward to it and thanks to all you nice ladies for relating your  experiences with Curves.  I'll check in later and let you know how it goes!

    Hi!  I thought I'd report in about my visit to Curves yesterday-- it was GREAT!  I had a lot of fun, although there were only three other ladies in there.  I plan to go back today, still on my free trial. 

    I would love to hear from long-term Curves members as to whether the routine is still beneficial after you get your muscles built up.  That is the only thing that I am questioning-- if the workout will benefit me after I go for a while. I did ask the Curves lady about that and she said I would just have to increase the number of repetitions that I do the machines and it would still benefit me.  I guess that makes sense Cool

    I've been going to Curves for several months, and have found that I am much stronger overall. If the place is fairly empty, I'll do 2 repetitions on each machine, and go around either once or twice, depending on time constraints, but if there are a lot of people in there, I'll just do one repetition and go around 2 or 3 times. Then I go into the other room and use the Ab-lounger type thingy, the weight bench to strengthen abdominal muscles, and 10 minutes with the 5lb. hoola hoop. I find that when I'm done, I have much more energy.

    This thread's about a year old, and I'm just wondering if any of you are still going, or if the glow and motivation wore off. Any other comments about Curves? I just found out my health insurance offers a free Curves membership, and I'm wondering if it's something I should take advantage of. Is there a hard-sell for Curves diet aids? Are things kept clean and in good condition? Any suggestions on what to wear/not wear?

    Just stumbled across this thread.  I just completed my free week at Curves and I am definitely joining.  Really enjoying it.  I plan to go four/five times a week if I can.  I go right after work.  It is a great de-stressor at the end of the day.  The Curves I go to is clean and the equipment well maintain. I do recommend washing your hands right after you work out and use the hand sanitizer...lots of hands...lots of germs.

    I've been going for over a year...really enjoy the work out and the women...we are a very talkative bunch. I go every MWF and walk my dog every day. I do feel stronger..nice to notice how many calories I burn each time..more incentive. I do the Curves Smart that is computer controlled.

    Curves is about 3 minutes away which is even better. I could walk but prefer to drive instead if I have to go somewhere afterwards..

    I joined Curves last August and go every MWF also.  Best thing about it?  The fact that I see all ages, shapes and sizes so my Femara tummy doesn't stand out!

    My Curves is very clean and well-managed and the trainers are always keeping an eye out for you if you're not using the equipment properly.  And yes -- wash hands before and after!

    Hey I didn't see this post either until today...I also just started Curves this month..There is a special going on for a trial month, something with Avon...I've only been going for 2 weeks but I also love it, I don' t feel like I'm going to hurt myself..I thought about dieting, and was going to try  Jenny Craig, but the food is loaded with soy protein, which being er + and pr + is not a good thing, so not a good diet for me...Then I looked into a couple of other places here, same thing, so I started checking out the gyms...Found Curves to be the best for me being stage 4 and not sure how long I will be feeling good enough to keep it up..I'm going to try though..So far,  I love it...And you ladies are so right about no one caring what you wear, or what you look like....Very casual..It's nice not to have to change weights, or fuss with machines..I find it a very easy work out and then go home and walk outside or on the treadmill...Good luck everyone...KLynn

    Hi,

    I did Curves back in 2004 and lost 75 pounds.  It was a great experience and I thoroughly enjoyed the staff.  I re-joined the Curves here last year and then was diagnosed with TNBC.  I had to put my membership on hold (another great thing about Curves) and am just waiting for the doc to give me the go ahead to exercise again.  Curves is a wonderful program!

    CONGRATULATIONS to all of you ladies who have had success at Curves!!! 

    Sadly, I don't go to Curves any more just simply because I can't afford it.  I wish they would offer a month-by-month plan here without a long-term committment.  Also, the Curves that I went to shut down, but there is another one on the other end of the county that I could go to, if only it fit into my budget.  I had great fun though, did not get bored, saw results rather quickly, and I think it's a great program.  I have been walking every evening after work, but that gets boring sometimes.  Good luck to all with Curves!
