breast MRI at new facility

Since my breast care center is no longer performing MRIs, I  will be going to a new facility and having my digital mammos there as well.(in 3 weeks)  I just called ahead, spoke with the MRI nurse and found out about their procedures for the MRI and finding out results. (face down with IV, earplugs, feet first into machine). It's a little different from what I've had done in the past, so there is a little apprehension about going to a new place. (face up for part of it, head first into machine). She said MRI results usually in a few days, wasn't sure about mammo results since she only worked in MRI dept, but thought a few days for mammo as well (unless a problem, where they would let you know much quicker).  I'm used to waiting for the MRI results (several days in fact), but they always come in after the diagnostic mammo and tell me right away after the radiologist reviews it--she made it sound like that might not be possible due to the large numbers of mammos being reviewed on any given day.  I'm trying to think positively (less claustrophobic the way they do MRI, get them both done the same day, etc) and that perhaps it's a good thing to have another set of eyes reviewing things
--they may even have more expertise in reading the mammos and MRIs due to the larger volume of patients they see. Anyone have experience with having to change imaging facilities  mid-stream like this?

Hi Anne,

I have not had to change facilities, but I just want to reassure you that what you describe for the MRI (face down, feet first, IV & ear plugs) is exactly what I have always had for MRIs at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston.  I have also waited until I next saw my doctor for the results.  Bad news does travel much quicker than good news, so if there is any problem, they do let you know as fast as possible.

Yep, that's what I had yesterday. I brought home my pictures on a CD, but the reports will take longer.

Have you ever noticed how many Anne's there are on this board?! Maybe being named Anne is a risk factor.

You are correct, Anne.  The study will probably be released next week that says having the name Anne (with the "e") is a risk factor.  Makes as much sense as the study that said left-handedness (me) is a risk factor that came out about a year ago.

Well, I'm not qualified as an Anne, but I'll put in my 2 cents worth. I had MRI's pretty much like described above except head first. I was face down, ear plugs, IV, etc. I had to wait for it to be read by the person my doctor wanted to read it. It was well worth the wait. I had to see my doctor before they would give me results, although after an MRI guided biopsy once I got a call telling me all was O.K.

Left handedness? Sheeesh. What next?
