My blood pressure is usually low.  Used to be almost too low.  In my recent 6 month follow up visits, it has been high.  Yesterday it was 140/80 and has been as high as 152/90.  Usually more like 120/70.

I wonder if it is the water weight gain of the estrogen dominance?  Can anyone recommend another herb or alternative medicine for water weight gain and/or high blood pressure?

I exercise.  I am the right weight.  I never salt food, Eat mostly organic.  Lots of fruits and vegetables.  Drink a ton of purified water.

I'm interested in an answer also......my BP used to be so low that sometimes a nurse taking it would recheck it and ask me if it was always that low?  When I went in for my chemo tx on Friday it was 130 over 70....on Sat for my Neulasta shot it was 144 over 70.  For someone who never went above 110 over 60 and was usually lower this distresses me.

I have no water retention that I know of - still swimming, eating properly, etc.  I have, however, put on 9lbs since I started chemo beginning of January.

    Ideas?  Thanks, Trina

Wish I knew.  I am trying watermelon and other things for the water weight.

I don't think 9 lbs would make that much difference either.

We have been through a lot, but still it seems a little strange.

I wonder about the AI's or tamox. Are you on either?  I have not been able to take the AI's and waiting on the tamox metabolizing test.

Potassium can help lower blood pressure.

I was put on bp medicine about 5 months ago. I've been on tamox for about 18 months. I thougt it was strange too, I eat better than I ever have, I exercise everyday. The doctor told me if high bp runs in the family it's not always controlled by lifestyle.

Still seems weird to have a sudden onset though, doesnt it?  Especially if you previously had almost too low blood pressure.

    Hi Bliz,

Have you been keeping tabs on the iodine thread?  There's apparently a lot of disagreement in regard to how much people need, and since you're avoiding salt, you potentially could have a deficiency.  Anyway, the last post I made on that thread contains some notes taken from Dr Northrup's book on women's health.  Since you're er/pr+, you might be interested to know that iodine decreases the ability of estrogen to adhere to estrogen receptors.  Having estrogen dominance must be distressing for you in addition to the discomfort.

I just read that taking diuretics for high blood pressure is ok to do.  When it gets bad, I take a diuretic with a potassium pill but so far I only had to do it once because I think green tea is helping me to get rid of excess water retention.  Anyway the net is full of info on using diuretics for high blood pressure.

I will check out the iodine thread.  I should be getting enough due to the comprehensive liquid vitamin I take.

My gyno perscribed a diuretic many years ago when I was having PMS.  I think I still have some.  Only thing is I tried it the last time I had estrogen dominance and it had no effect.

It is a weird type of water weight gain. Decreasing or balancing the estrogen is the only thing that seems to work. I am sure it is connected to the higher BP.

Brought this one back up because I had my 6 month check up with the rad onc.  She would not rule out that my trial on Femera and then Arimidex ,  did not raise my blood pressure.

Still she wants me to go to the GP and have it checked out.  Great, another thing to work on.  In the meantime I got dandelion root as a natural diuretic.  I believe this is all related to the estrogen dominance.

    Bliz,

I have the same problem with BP being high after being on Aromasin since October.  My onc said the same thing about running in the family but I think this is a direct result of the AI. She suggested going to my GP for more meds too!  The onc probably does not want this DX to be associated with her even though it most likely has SOMETHING to do with estrogen depletion etc.

I am bummed out about this. Keep up posted as to what you do.

I bought a home monitor to see what the BP was like at different times of the day.  So far highest in the morning and evening.

I tried running a little harder, but only succeeded in screwing up my back.  I am already thin, exercise, eat right etc.

I hope to get the water weight down.  I do believe that is the issue, possibly triggered by the AI's.  I have also been eating more watermelon, taking black cohosh and dandelion root.  I do seem to be passing more water, so hopefully that will help.

Please be advised that all my docs were horrified I am taking black cohosh even though several reputable entities, including the Mayo Clinic, said it is not shown as dangerous for women with hormone positive BC.

It has seemed to help with the estrogen dominance, which is also bad for BC and the water gain.  If I stabilize, I will stop taking.

Let me know how you are doing.

Do you put a fresh beet in your blender, cannd or cooked ? Can you but beet juice?

My BP was always 112/70....I won't even say what it is now. I have to have in done on my leg and they said it's always higher there. They won't say HOW MUCH higher it can be
