Welcome back, Grace.  I was wondering if you were still around.  By the way, can you answer this question.  I've gotten a few bad bites on my right arm from the black flies of Maine. Can fly bites cause lymphedemia?  Sure hope not, as nothing seems to stop them, not even deet.

I agree with everything you write; and I'm guilty like most of us.  It's really difficult to change bad habits--sort of like not smoking.  Our septic dumps into the Pleasant River here and I'm trying to get used to not using clorox in my wash.  Our town requires recycling and we also have to pay for everything we dump, so that helps somewhat to get our house in order.  But it all requires relearning.

I don't know about the black fly bites. But I would be very careful. There are so many ways to develop LE, especially in the arm. Just be sure they don't become infected. I have heard of women who have developed cellulitis first, and LE as a result! You might ask Binney on the LE thread here at bc.org.

When you say your septic dumps into the river, do you mean the leach field processes the liquid waste that then transfers to the river via underground aquaducts? That's what happens with ours. But we are almost 1/2 mile from the river.

Yes, it is difficult to change bad habits. I have been working for several years to get our garbage under control--meaning eliminating whatever I can that goes into the landfill. We are composting and recycling like made. I won't buy any meat from chain stores because of the styrofoam that can't be recycled--I get all my meat from the natural/organic food stores in town--which is wrapped in brown paper that I can recycle. We take our plastic bags to the dog park for owners to pick up their dogs' messes. I watch what I buy in packaging, and look for the least amount. I rarely buy single serving size products of any type--to much packaging.

Doing all this has reduced our trips to the waste site. Instead of every 2 weeks, we are up to every 5 weeks. Last year we got about 4-6 yards of mulch from our composting. The yard has never looked better. I'm waiting for the volunteer fruit and vegetable plants to start sprouting!!

And all this means one garbage can that actually goes into the "dump." The rest is all sorted and recycled--and my dh fills the back of the Ranger pickup and takes it all in one trip!

But I don't feel like I can stop there. We are now going to the local farmers' market for our fruits and vegetables. Only buy what's in season and locally grown. There are markets in every town on different days around us, so it's easy to get to one using very little gas.

I carpool over the hill to swim 2 days a week. I'm trying to get a group of water exercise ladies to consider carpooling the 3 days a week I swim locally at the warm water pool.

It is a challenge, but I am determined to do as much as I can. I know the next car we buy--only when we really need one--we drive ours until they poop out--will either be a hybrid or a small car that gets the best mileage that we can find on the market at that time. When dh retires, we will go to one car that we will share. Unfortunately there is no bus service where we live so it is necessary to have a car, and grocery shopping by bicycle would be very, very difficult as we are in the mountains. I'd like to move somewhere in after retirement to a small community where we could walk to the store or into town for what we need, and just have a car for emergencies. Finland does this best!! The town is laid out so you don't need a vehicle to do anything--work, recreation, errands, etc. These can all be done on foot or by bicycle. It's amazing how dumb city planners in America have been--we have lived in the land of plenty for so long, and want to continue to live that way, but no one wants to pay for all that luxury!!

Glad you are here, AnneShirley. Love to have someone rational to respond to on this thread!! LOL

Dislike this drawn out campaign, but believe Hillary has every right to fight mightily for what she wants and believes is best for the American people. I want the Demos to be victorious in November, and stop the 3rd term of the Bush planted in the White House via McCain. He just is out of it, as far as I'm concerned. Had to laugh at him on Ellen--caught the clips shown on the news. He really looked rather "stupid," and did not know how to respond to him. I'm glad she didn't soft touch him with her questions as some talk show hosts do. He needs to be questioned carefully, as over time I have seen his answers change with the prevailing winds!! Seems like so many of these politicians are alike. And still not sure about any health care plan he wants to put forth--sounds like another bush gift to the few--tax credits. Ridiculous.

Will be watching the news on the 31st to see what DNC fouls up further regarding FL & MI.

bygrace...rational? Hmmmmm, OK if we are talking about save the earth issues, here goes. I got rid of almost everything in my house that is plastic and don't use plastic bags (those little ones from the grocer), my car is a Carolla and I bought it in 2001, and it only has 70, 000 miles so I will probably be driving it for anothe 30 or 40 thousand miles. I have 1 television in my house. I don't use a microwave and I try very hard not to use multiple appliances at the same time. I do not have a dishwasher, do dishes by hand and hang my clothes out on the line to dry, I have a dryer but do not use it. I do recycle because we have a GREAT recycling program in my town. I do not "run to the store" for a single item, I pick a day for running errands. I am "getting there" slowly but surely but still have some things to figure out. Like for example I detest buying things in plastic and have yet to find certain items that come in glass containers but am slowly figuring it out. And while some items (food) are inconvenient in original form (as in the old days) I am switching over. Butter for example, I don't buy the spreadable in plastic I buy the sticks wrapped in the paper and in a box. Haven't figured out bread yet, but like I said I am getting there.

See, even us irrational Repub conservatives are trying!

Paulette, good job.  You're doing a lot bettern than me.  We do not drive often except when we visit our DDs out of town.  Around town we do try to make A DAY of errands.

I'm not doing without my AC or heat.  I have what they call a heat pump.  I do think they conserve a bit of energy.  I don't usually wash small loads of clothes.  Some people wash everyday.  I don't.

I don't believe in Darwin.  Thus, he's out the window as far as I'm concerned.

I haven't read all the posts.  I'm tired right now.  Family just left.

    I'm spoiled.

Grace and others: My favorite recycler was an Englishman, living in Italy for many years, who lived off the land with his wife.  John and Sally were our foot friends. He had been a footballer with England's Chelsea team and she had been a principal dancer with the Royal Ballet.  You think with their history they'd be spoiled, but absolutely not!  When they moved to Italy, at first, for some six months, they lived in a cave on the property they purchased.  Then John built a one room house in which they lived for ten years, until he built a larger house, which they now occupy.  They grew and raised all their own food, and when they purchased bread from the bakery in their small town, it was wrapped in a very thin (almost like tissue) brown paper.  John preferred writing letters in longhand and he frequently sent my husband letters written on this tissue paper in which he purchased his bread--he believed in wasting nothing!  He'd be horrified if he lived with me for a week.  But I keep trying.

Paulette--I'm no where near your standard, which is admirable.  I'll try to be better in the future.

For me, my dd and I decided that we will walk to school.  We get up earlier and walk the whole .80 of a mile to school.  Then I walk around the huge block and get myself a 3.25 mile walk with the dog in tow.

Next, we rarely, get our groceries in plastic bags.  We have the re-usable bags and will bring any plastic ones back to the store for the recycle bag.

My dd is the light monitor. We didn't use the heater except maybe for a week, instead, we put on more clothes and used our comfy comforters.  We plan our meals and do not thaw out in the nuker but in the fridge.  In addition, the electric company said it is more economical to have a full freezer and fridge.  When freezer supplies get low, I fill up empty jugs of milk with water and fill it up that way.

We have gone without watering the outside lawns for one day.  The commercial said one day a week will not kill the lawns and plants.  I think we can try and do two days or one and a half.

I drive an SUV but using cruise control and leaving space between vehicles so as not to brake, I have picked up one extra mile per gallon ...  I have gone from 15.3 to 16.7 average mileage. Can't afford a new car but am watching to see what's developing in the car markets.

One trip per week to the grocery store via the car.  Have made stops by bicycle on the necessary occasion ... but we had to make rules that we can live by and need to go with the car. Trips to the bank have changed ... I use the one near work now, it's closer. Packing lunch so as not to drive and to save money.   We also both use a lunchbox instead of a brown bag.  Sandwich keepers instead of plastic keeps the sandwich from getting smushed.

I may be a Republican but I care about our environment, too!!!

Grace, first of all we repubs don't hate you.

As far as the Ellen  show I didn't see it.  I saw clips.  Wouldn't you rather Sen McCain be honest than to not be?  He believes that each state should decide about gay marriage.

    McCain is not President Bush.

I only flush my toilet once I've "peed" about four times.

We don't have that much garbage when we don't have company.

We are driving only one car at this time.  The other one is sick and not running (a 1999 Subaru..little car..cheap car).  However, we don't drive that often.  We normally do all of our errands in one day.  Rarely do we only make one trip.  Most of our driving is when we go to Charlotte to see our daughters.

We rarely stay in a motel.  Did that all during chemo at a reduced rate because our daughter worked for the Mariott Corp in Maryland.  I don't need clean sheets or towels everyday.

I don't recall anyone buying cars complaining about the kind of cars we want to buy.  I hear the one's who do not want to buy those cars i.e. SUVs complain.

When my dh used to change our own oil he never threw it down a sewer.  He took it to an auto store to be recycled.

I don't flush meds down the toilet.  I had some Xeloda left and called the pharmacy to see what to do with it.  The pharmacist told me to throw it away.  I couldn't believe it!  I broke the law and sent it to someone who didn't have the money to buy it.  Don't tell on me!  We are now told to call pharmacies to find out which drugs to throw in the trash, but not to flush them.

I do not litter.  We carry a "trash" bag in our car when we travel.

If we used every bit of corn we have we would only get 10% of energy.  Then, there's a food crises.

There is no farmer's market near us.  I think one is down town.  But that would take a lot more gas than going to the grocery store.  I'd rather get fresh veggies at the farmer's market.

I don't care if the airlines charges for baggage.  We can't afford to fly. LOL  And, many airlines are cutting their routes.

Truckers are suffering..going out of business.  Service stations are going out of business.

I can't stand the heat so I will continue to use my AC.  I can stand the cold better...can bundle up.  However, I can't take off all my clothes.  Wouldn't help anyway.

We take our plastic grocery bags back to the store to be recycled.  Did you know Oprah didn't know such a thing existed?  We don't have recycling in our neighborhood.  I'm waiting for that to happen.

We have some of those shops with housing on top.  VERY EXPENSIVE!

I am extremely grateful to live in this country.  I'm am proud of this country and always have been.  I don't think America is a mean country.  I think we are the most caring, generous nation.  No, we're not perfect.

I still believe we need to drill for oil.  The people in Alaska also agree.   We would not be in this mess if we had done this 10 years ago.  The Chinese are drilling 75 miles off the coast of Florida.  I agree that we should also look for alternatives.  Look for everything to be independent.

I don't believe oil is our enemy.

Please watch this flash movie and keep an open mind just as you want us to.  It's an eye opener.  I'm tired of politics and politicians.

    http://www.anwr.org/Video/View-our-ANWR-Flash-Movie.php

Now, something for you to read.

    http://www.anwr.org/topten.htm

TOP 10 REASONS TO SUPPORT DEVELOPMENT IN ANWR

    1. Only 8% of ANWR Would Be Considered for Exploration Only the 1.5 million acre or 8% on the northern coast of ANWR is being considered for development. The remaining 17.5 million acres or 92% of ANWR will remain permanently closed to any kind of development. If oil is discovered, less than 2000 acres of the over 1.5 million acres of the Coastal Plain would be affected. That¹s less than half of one percent of ANWR that would be affected by production activity.

    2. Revenues to the State and Federal Treasury Federal revenues would be enhanced by billions of dollars from bonus bids, lease rentals, royalties and taxes. Estimates on bonus bids for ANWR by the Office of Management and Budget and the Department of Interior for the first 5 years after Congressional approval are $4.2 billion.  Royalty and tax estimates for the life of the 10-02 fields were estimated by the Office of Management and Budget from  $152-237 billion

    3. Jobs To Be Created Between 250,000 and 735,000 ANWR jobs are estimated to be created by development of the Coastal Plain

    4. Economic Impact Between 1977 and 2004, North Slope oil field development and production activity contributed over $50 billion to the nations economy, directly impacting each state in the union.

    5. America's Best Chance for a Major Discovery The Coastal Plain of ANWR is America's best possibility for the discovery of another giant "Prudhoe Bay-sized" oil and gas discovery in North America. U.S. Department of Interior estimates range from 9 to 16 billion barrels of recoverable oil.

    6. North Slope Production in Decline The North Slope oil fields currently provide the U.S. with nearly 16% of it's domestic production and since 1988 this production has been on the decline. Peak production was reached in 1980 of two million barrels a day, but has been declining to a current level of 731,000 barrels a day.

    7. Imported Oil Too Costly In 2007, the US imported an average of 60% of its oil and during certain months up to 64%. That equates to over $330 billion in oil imports. That's $37.75 million per hour gone out of our economy!  Factor in the cost to defend our imported oil, and the costs in jobs and industry sent abroad, the total would be nearly a trillion dollars.

    8. No Negative Impact on Animals Oil and gas development and wildlife are successfully coexisting in Alaska 's arctic. For example, the Central Arctic Caribou Herd (CACH) which migrates through Prudhoe Bay has grown from 3000 animals to its current level of 32,000 animals. The arctic oil fields have very healthy brown bear, fox and bird populations equal to their surrounding areas.

    9. Arctic Technology Advanced technology has greatly reduced the 'footprint" of arctic oil development. If Prudhoe Bay were built today, the footprint would be 1,526 acres, 64% smaller.

    10. Alaskans Support More than 75% of Alaskans favor exploration and production in ANWR. The democratically elected Alaska State Legislatures, congressional delegations, and Governors elected over the past 25 years have unanimously supported opening the Coastal Plain of ANWR.  The Inupiat Eskimos who live in and near ANWR support onshore oil development on the Coastal Plain.

Rocktobermom, we all do what we can do.  The dems do not make me feel guilty.  I'm so sick and tired of this "oil game."  Dems say we need to look for alternatives.  FINE AND DANDY!  We also need to drill for more oil.  Do it all.  I think it's all about politics and I'm sick to death of it!  No one wants to do anything until after the elections.  How ridiculous!  We need to hold these POLITICIANS accountable as they go on their merry way driving whatever they want, flying whatever they want...don't get me started!

The reality is that oil is not a renewable resource - and as a result, it will eventually run out. Much of the crude oil turmoil now is due to increased demand with flattening supply. We have a lot less oil in the planet than we had 50 years ago. 50 years from now - when there isn't much left and it is as expensive per barrel as gold - we need to be using something else, or not only won't we have gas, but packaging as we know it will go the way of the dinosaur (pun definitely intended) as we won't have any plastic, either. Whichever candidate makes a real effort to begin looking at viable means of alternative fuel sources will have my vote as it is such a top priority that affects every aspect of our lives (just look at the affect the high cost of petro and heating oil is having on the economy). How any of them can consider this a "back door" issue is absolutely beyond me...

I drive an SUV - but it is a very tiny and economical 4-cylinder hybrid that gets 33 miles to the gallon. I also take my reusable bags to the grocery store and recycle everything I can - so much so that our recycle cans are waaaaay bigger than our garbage can. My 14-yr-old carries his bottle from the Propel water he drinks at lunch home everyday to toss in the recycling bin and has learned to not toss paper in the trash (and his classmates laugh at him, which blows me away). Even h2b is a convert; last weekend when we were shopping for Memorial Day supplies, he didn't even bat an eye when I asked him to grab the paper plates off the shelf instead of the styrofoam ones - and he recycled the three plastic cups we used while cooking out in the park (whoo-hoo!). I know we could do better - for example, we use much more water than we should - but it's a start. I've gotten a lot of great ideas from you guys here, so thanks for that. It seems like we are quite an environmentally sound bunch here, lol...

Our city has forced recycling.  You are given 3 huge trash containers: one for waste, one for recycle items (paper, boxes, cardboard, tin, aluminum and plastic), and the 3rd for green waste (grass, weeds, tree leaves and twigs, wood).

Our black one (the one that is truly waste) gets emptied every week but I could go 3 or 4 weeks to empty that.  The trash man comes every week and I don't want to attract vermin.

Shirl, you crack me up!  I didn't want to mention that one but me and dd say, "If it's yellow, please be mellow. If it's brown, flush it down."

Another commercial talked about hot water/cold water washing.  That with today's soaps, no need to wash in hot water. 90% of the energy used to wash clothing comes from heating the water!!  So, it's cheaper and greener to wash in cold water.  Full loads only!!

We also changed out our light bulbs for then energy saving ones.  They were almost FREE at the grocery store ... incentive and coupon, I am not kidding like it was 10¢ or something. I didn't change the ones in front of the house since they are decorative and they don't have decorative bulbs yet.

Heres a tip that saves energy and money, most of us probably do this already though, but worth a read:

Use a programmable thermostat. If you’re typically out during the day, your home doesn’t need to be maintained at a comfortable 72°. A programmable thermostat allows you to pre-program temperature settings. You can buy a basic model at most hardware stores for about $33. According to the Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star Website, using this technology can save you about $150 a year in energy costs, for a net savings of $117.

Read newspapers online. Here’s a way to save both money and trees: Cancel your newspaper subscription and read the paper online for free. For a major paper, you would save $143.

Thanks for the great energy saving tips! I was just on this point in my house yesterday.

Check your electric company website for coupons to homedepo or such for the florescent bulbs through '08

Unplug all phone chargers, dvd units, game players, microwaves when not in use.

Shut off computers when not used.

When running AC, keep window coverings down or closed during daytime sunlight which heats the air (not sure I like this but it was on the electric site).

Power down hot-tubs to bare minimum.

Install ceiling fans in every bedroom as air circulation cools body heat

Install shower water saving timer for teen use

Run dishwasher and clothes early or late when air is coolest so air doesn't have to be re-cooled during the day.

    Best,

    Tender

Actually, I have started turning my computer COMPLETELY off when we leave the house. I heard it was okay to leave on but the electric company says OFF.

Paulette--2001 Corolla as of this week 20,000 miles on it.  Everyone roars with laughter when I bring it in for inspection.-----Thats what Femara and other meds have done for me---too dizzy for any highway driving--Only drive back roads and try to do as much in one trip as possible.

Femara is responsible for all my ceiling fans as well! My ceiling fans have

fluorescent bulbs although you can't tell.  It looks like a warm lights but they are supposed to use less electricity.

Femara is also responsible I think for my capacity to keep my thermostat at 63 in the winter.---who knew Femara---Secret conservation tool!

I'm now getting an attic fan installed.  Supposedly it goes on automatically when the temp reaches 95 in the attic.  Home inspector said it would save allot on air conditioning.  Hope he is right.

I have those energy saving bulbs all over the house but I have to say

sometimes I feel I'm living like a mole.  Those lights just don't do it especially in a dark hallway or laundry room.

Went back to good old glass containers for storing everything and use

great reusable bags and insulated bags bought from Trader Joes. I also have some envirosax.  If you are an organized person these can be nice

cause they roll up very tiny and store in a tiny pouch which can be kept in your glove compartment or handbag.

Now I thought I was being real smart keeping everything on surge protector power strips and turning them off at night. Took me a long time to figure out why I kept having trouble with my cordless phones--didn't realize I was turning off the base receiver. LOL

great tips everyone...one of my local supermarkets here in upstate NY is giving back five cents for every bag you bring to pack your groceries.  I got in the habit after going to Ireland a couple of years ago.  They don't give you grocery bags, you HAVE to bring your own... OR, buy the reusable ones from them at check out. It's nice not to see the plastic bags blowing all over the roads there.

We also changed out all the lightbulbs in the house and boy, they ARE expensive but I can't remember the last time I had to buy any, so they must last longer.

I have tried NOT to do laundry everyday (I swear the dirty clothes multiply overnight).....

Now, if we could just do something about the gas prices.  I just learned this am that gas stations here can post 1/2 gal pricing on their signs (something about the gas pump registers won't go any higher than $5.00 per gallon)....

and finally..... we DO NOT need to be drilling for oil in Alaska, that is not the answer IMHO... we need to reduce our dependence on oil... period...

    let the argument begin....lol....

    have a great day everyone....

As soon as we get to $10 a gallon, I suspect the nation will have had enough of this, and find out who in congress is blocking our oil production and see if they have a better idea outside of riding bikes to work in the snow.   There is nothing to stop the rise in oil prices until we start drilling for our own.  Nothing.  They can charge what they want, not produce, do whatever.  We are over a barrel, as Hillary likes to say.  Drill or walk to work or pay the price if you got it.  I wonder what it will cost to heat a home this winter?  Or next winter.

I agree, the answer is not drilling for oil. If I can't afford the gas, then I'll just stay home.

Out west here, SUV owners are attempting to trade in their big gas hogs for smaller and hybrid cars--but the dealerships are not turning down the trade-ins as they can't sell them--the lots are filling up with these dinosaurs--and they are wholesaling them. Perhaps they could be shipped to Saudi Arabia where car owners there pay a mere 43 cents a gallon for gas!!

And I don't see why someone can't ride a bike in the snow--my dad rode his every morning 12 miles on a paper route in Indiana in the 40s--and some of it on unpaved roads. And my 3rd cousin in Finland rides her bike to work all year round--in a lot of snow too, in the winter. So, it is possible--we are just spoiled--at least that's what my dad would say if he were still alive.

We changed our lightbulbs out 10 years ago--and just this year had to replace several. Now the flourescent bulbs come in "daylight" variety--same savings as the others, but brighter light. In Finland, the winter hours are about 2-3 hours of daylight--they use natural light bulbs to avoid SAD. Keeps depression at bay.

Have been washing in cold water for years. In fact, we remodeled our bathroom a few years ago, and bought the small front loader machines--uses very little water, and only about 1/8 cup high efficiency soap--and has large capacity. Have gas dryer that dries in 1/4 time of electric. We do 2 loads a week for 2 of us. Don't need Brita, we drink right out of the tap--best tasting water I've ever had--good old well water, comes right out of the ground (all granite) at 300 feet.

Thermostat is set at 55 degrees at night, and is on timer. Max heat is 62 degrees. We use feather bed, down comforters in winter. Put in forced air heat and propane bill went down by 40%!!

Still drive the highway 2x a week with dh and almost every car on the road has one driver and NO passengers!! No carpooling really to speak of. Highway is like a parking lot during commute hours, and carpool lane is relatively empty!! Price of gas hasn't gone up enough to get people to change their habits. Maybe at $10. a gallon it might get some to consider it!!

Still see the fools in their big SUVs going down the freeway at 80 mph--and tromping on the gas as they go around "slower" cars--like going the speed limit of 65!! I don't see much concern with the price of gas out here. If people can afford it, they do. It is really hurting the poor and poverty level people. Seems that class gets the short stick on everything. Don't think the wealthy care too much--they continue to buy their McMansions and Hummers--can pay whatever they want for what they want when they want it!

And we can save even more if we read newspapers at the library, and check out books there also--just add that stop to your once a week errands!

No lawns for us. Turn on drip hoses once a week. Have all natural, drought tolerant landscaping. Seeing more and more homes taking out the lawn and replacing with low water use landscaping--prettier also and so enjoyable when walking the neighborhood. Junie...don't kid yourself, the towel service in hotels is not for "save the earth reasons" it's for the hotels to PROFIT! Less money for them to spend on detergent, electricity, etc. bigger profits, most companies start by cutting small things. Also individual hotel managers make HUGE bonuses when cutting costs and coming in under budget! They use the "save the earth" thing to appeal to your sense rightousness!

Ah, but in the process they are helping to save the environment, so what if they do it bass-ackwards!!

Sure, McCain should be honest--at least then I know I won't be voting for him. He's just way behind the times IMHO!!

Physically, I would agree that McCain isn't Bush. But beyond that, come on, he just got done raising money (millions) with Bush hosting a private fundraiser that 500 repubs attended (did any of the repubs here get an invite?). He wants to stay apart from Bush, but he can't because he needs Bush's fundraisers to get enough money to stay in the campaign!!

McCain will just continue what Bush started.

And what do you all think about Scott McClellan? Was it wrong or right? Will this change the issues for the campaigns? Will the 20 something percent of the country finally open their eyes and see the truth about Bush? Now who's the snake in the grass? Oh, wait, I should come up with a different descriptor, calling Bush a snake is an insult to the snake!!

Come on, you gals, what happened to the debate? When are the arrows going to be slung? Shokk............where are you..........don't desert us now and just hang out on the Repub thread............you won't have any fun...........I did see you had a lung infection...........I hope you are better........should we be careful not to make you choke or laugh? Just kidding. Really do hope you are feeling better.

    Turning the floor over to...............?

Well, 30 mile commute with no bus service or train, I'm stuck to driving. And you're right, no one is taking the SUVs in on trade for a fair price .... although the auctions are still commanding a good price, the dealers are giving the customers a double whammy.

I will be happy to argue (debate) that we need to drill for oil.  And, find other energy.  We shoulda been drilling years ago.

I don't care what Scott wrote.  I'm not buying his book.  Instead, I'm going to read some good books on the history of Africa.  Rent Hotel Rowanda, and The Last King of Scotland (I believe that's the name of the movie).  My dd who just got back from Africa said it's very good.  She's also wondering why we send billions over there for the dictators to keep in their pockets while the POOR people have nothing!!!!!!  I'm sick of giving away our money to crooks!  All about politics.

I'm not in a good mood.  Can you tell?

No, shokk, he said he had already been to 57 states, he is on to one he missed!  LOL!

Shirley, I've seen both of those movies, they are very good! Very sad though but real. I, myself, am an isolationist ... I wish we were sending NO MONEY TO ANY COUNTRY until we get our crap together. I am sorry, not meaning to be mean but we have poor, starving and underprivileged dying, getting beaten, killed, etc right here in the good ole USA ... save ourselves first then reach out.

Regarding oil .... dig, drill and research AT THE SAME TIME. Yes, it's not going to last forever, we don't need it too... what we needed was for everyone to realize this and then start looking for something else. Sorry, I can't see how it's sane, HOW IS IT SANE? to support Saudi Arabia and other OPEC countries with our military items, with our trade and allow them to charge us this amount while they are paying 43 cents for a gallon of gas?   We sell them fighter jets!!  OK, so how about overcharging them and using that money to subsidize gasoline?  Our military troops are there to protect the Saud regime. Without us, they are at risk of tribal wars and terrorists, just like Afghanistan and Iraq.

What about the money we send to the Arab nations promoting equality for women? We spend tons of money for humanitarian reasons...

I say we stop all funding of anything to do with them until they bring their prices down ... or start buying from China.

Have you seen the news about the oil falling $4.00 a barrel.  I wonder how long it'll take to reduce the price at the pumps?

I am so tired of hearing the dems argue that we do not need to drill for oil.  Hmmm.... sort of contradictory.  We want OPEC to up production, but no drilling for us.

I wonder if Obama will go to Iraq after McCain suggested he go (with McCain...McCain would teach him some stuff..HAHAHA...Obama didn't like that).  I love McCain's honesty.  I may not agree with him on everything.  I'm tired of Obama's "gaffes."  I'm tired of hearing about his racist church..if he disagrees with what they're preaching he should leave.  Perhaps if he should win the prize (presidency) he'd "disjoin."  After all, can you imagine the fall out by his black supports.  That's not a racist comment...it's a comment about his racist church.  I would never sit in a white church that preached racist views.  To see this Catholic priest make a fool out of himself...well..what can I say (learned the "....." from Shokk Laughing).  Then, he disingenuously apologizes.  Does he really think we're so stupid as to believe he's really sorry for saying what he said, and getting the congregation worked up?

I really have nothing to add to this thread except to say I won't vote for Obama, and will try to help my dd to see the light!  LOL

Shirley.. Shirley .. Shirley.....If we are going to talk about gaffes, we MUST mention that Mr. McCain doesn't know the difference between a Sunni and a Shiite.....  I also seem to recall something this week about McCain's pastor going on some rant and of course McCain did the ole' distance himself speech.... oh well....

Go Obama!!!!   Your turn Shirley!  LOL.....

I didn't post it Shokk but here it is.  Quite a way to gain the Hillary vote. LOL -Never-mind appealing to independents----What a cast of characters!

And no Grace--You can't say this was taken out of context.

"Is this why the Obama campaign scrubbed Pfleger, one of Obama’s “spiritual advisors,” from their official webpage on faith? Did the Obama campaign ask Pfleger to apologize? Will Obama apologize to Clinton? Clinton personally apologized to Obama in the wake of Shaheen’s remarks in NH."

He also apparently left Obama's Advisory board for Catholics for Obama about two weeks ago.

P.S. Blue---Neither Parsley nor Hagee were McCain's Pastors no matter how you spin it.---

No, blue16, that wasn't McCain's pastor.  Can you think of another gaffe besides Sunni and Shiite?  I do like McCain's truthfulness.  I don't like Obama's excuses.
