I was wondering if anyone had bought a mastectomy swimsuit from Land's End and what your experience was.

For example, were the suits actually flattering as they say they are?

Also, do the suits squash your real breast down a lot? My prosthesis is designed to wear with an underwire bra and doesn't squish down nearly as much as my real breast, so I look uneven in something tight.

I'm going to Mexico soon and I'd love to find a swimsuit that looks good and lets me relax about my prosthesis.

When I had my bilateral mast, June 06, I bought a pretty turquoise suit from Land's End for the summer. It had a high neck, which I liked, as then I didn't feel that anyone could "look down" the suit.

The pocket's had plenty of room for any size prothesis.- Mine were a size B. It had the lycra, of course, to hold you in but didn't seem terribly tight, either.

I was happy with it (very feminine looking) and even got some complements from some casual friend's who had no idea, I had, had bilat mast.

Yeah, Darya, I have a two-piece and love it. Not only looks good, but it's actually good for swimming. I use a shower scrubby for a prosthesis, which I trim with a shears to the size and shape I want. Light weight, dries instantly, looks fine.

I just got two of the tops in the mail last week for my trip to St John's and I think that they do run small.....so keep that in mind and get one size bigger than you usually do. I am 5 10' and they are a bit on the short side but then they are takini tops.

I love mine too. I have a swim prosthesis which is lighter and allows water to get behind it...it is better than my usual prosthesis. And much cheaper.

I had recon in Nov so am looking forward to no prosthesis this summer.

I have several Lands End mast. suits.  All tankinis.  I think they work well too.  You could also check out Anita since they make mast. suits as well as Amoena.

I am just 5 days post-mastectomy (no recon), but I'm thinking ahead to when I want to fill out my clothing.  I don't understand this "shower scrubby" thing.  I looked in the bath section at Wal-Mart the other day, and all I could find were things that looked like what we've called "chore-boys"--those scratchy mesh balls used to scrape gunk from pots & pans.  I'm not sure I want to slip a chore-boy into my swimsuit top!

Or is there something else I'm not thinking of?  Can you post a website photo of the "shower scrubby" you like to use?

I have a couple of landsend tank suits (I'm 5'10," and tankinis would show too much of my 58-year-old belly), and they are very nice. I've tried bath scrubbies as prosthesies, but the texture of the folds of netting shows through the cup liner a bit. Perhaps I'm trimming them wrong? Or perhaps I bought ones that are too small and didn't flatten out enough? Tips solicited!

    I have many Lands End tankinis and love them all.  They aren't even mast suits, but suits I sewed pockets into.  I like the high neck because I need the coverage, and I'm short so the length of most of them is fine.  They don't sqoosh my remaining boob.  I wear either a swim form or the Amoena 126 Leisure form with a little something behind it for more "projection".  The 126 takes a long time to dry, so either use a hair dryer or have more than one with you.  Hope you have a good trip!

I have a couple of Lands End mastectomy tankinis, so the pockets are already sewn-in. They fit me fine, but I'm short-waisted, so I imagine they could show some midriff if you were longer-waisted. Like OLBinNJ, I use either my swim forms (size 2 Nearly Me) or the 126s (size 3 or 4). Both work great. The suits are cute and flattering and I feel very secure in them. My only problem is that they come up pretty high under my armpits and I've found that if I'm doing serious lap swimming, the repetitive rubbing caused by my arm motion can be irritating. So for real swimming, I wear my Anita one-piece, which is very comfortable. But for going to the beach, lounging, or just a relaxing swim, the Land's End tankinis are great.

I haven't bought their mast suit yet , but I did buy my mother one. I am longer through the body so I order their long suits. Their fit tends to be rather consistent - read the measurements to see if you need a long torso suit. They are good about returns and exchanges too.

Thanks, all, for your responses. I guess it's coming up to spring break time so I'm hoping the thread is useful for others too.



I think I'll go ahead and order from Land's End and maybe get another locally that I can try on.



I'll also check out the swim forms as I don't know what they are.



Thanks for the well wishes re. the vacation. I really, really need it! The hotel we're going to has an enormous, beautiful pool and I just want to swim and swim and swim.

Ps land's end often has mast suits on their clearance page- especially at the end of the season. I got a basic one for my mom for $20 last August

Ann, yes, that's the sort of bath puff I use. It's soft, not scratchy.

Isn't it nice to be thinking about all this in the middle of February? Love it!

I had a tankini and I thought the top was too big. The armhole was cut high, which was OK, but there was a lot of extra fabric under the arm. I ended up sending it to someone.  I think measure carefully.

Hate to be a nay-sayer but I really didn't like my Lands End swim suit. I didn't buy the tankini. I've got the one piece. The pocket ended in a flat line very low down on my chest so my prosthesis was compressed down and looked very bizarre.  I also thought the leg openings were cut too low.

I did find two great suits. One from Anita and the other from Carol Wior. They are both a bit big as they don't come in anything smaller than a 6 and I normally wear a 4 but they are both stylish and attractive. It took a lot of time and research to find two suits that fit and were a bit higher cut in the leg. A lot of the suits out there are terribly matronly looking.

I believe they'll take them back if you leave the panty strip on.

Sadly, swimswits usually need to be tried on!

For any plus size ladies - I found one suit at Just My Size (www.jms.com) and right now it is only $29.99 and if you search, you might find a code for free shipping.  I received mine last week and it fits perfect. 

I also found one one Overstocks at Lands End.  I do aqua aerobics three times a week and can't wait to get the clearance to return to the pool as my surgery was on 16 Jan.
