Skin Rash with Tamoxifen?
Comments
-
I have been taking Tamoxifen for 3 weeks. After 1 1/2 weeks started having severe vaginal area itching. Then started to get rash. BY Jan. 31 I had rash all over my body including the outside of my entire vag area. Has anyone experienced this? My onc. Dr. says it's really rare?

Hi Planco!
I know rashes are S.E. of Femora. I'm so sorry I can't really help you.
However these anti-hormonal drugs are strongly related cousins, I believe S.E. could be very similar.
Hope you're doing better,
Erika

Planco,
I know of one girl on our Jan 2007 chemo thread that had this. You should PM her, her name is RobbinJaye. Hope she can help you.

planco--I had a horrible vaginal yeast infection within 2 months of starting on tamoxifen (intense itching and burning internally and extenally). They treated it with meds (Diflucan, I think it was) and it never returned. It takes time for your body to adjust, some say as much as 6 months. I've taken tamox over 4 years and have been doing well. Hang in there, it will get better!!!!

I have been taking Tamoxafin for 2 months. I have noticed increase in forgetfulness and repeating myself. Also developed a rash on my inside right forearm. Anyone have these problems?

I had to discontinue Tamoxifen because of a rash but mine was all over
my upper body--very itchy--
If you are taking a generic maybe a change of manufacturers may be in order. It may not be the Tamoxifen but the binder the company is using-which could vary between brands.

I have recently been introduced to a product that is non-toxic and chemical free. It is used topically to cure skin irritations such as acne and rashes. I am very confident that it will help anyone with skin irritation of any kind. It's call glimpse it is produced by a company named Xango they have a juice that is from the Mangosteen fruit. It is a hollistic juice with a large amount of antioxidents in it. No matter weather you apply it topically or drink it there are benefits. The juice has helped numerous cancer survivors with nausea as well as rashes. Now they have it 3 times stronger in a topical system. It has worked miracles in people with only 4 days use. I mention this only to help and not to make a profit. Cancer is a horrible thing and any little bit will help. If you would like to check it out go to x3beauty.info good luck and god bless

I have been on Tamoxifen since 12/9 and have just developed a rash under my arm. I saw a dermatologist 2 weeks ago for a rash on my hip and she thought it may be contact dermatitis. The cream she prescribed has not really helped. I researched the side-effects of Tamoxifen and have found that "rash or hives" is one of the problems that should be immediately brought to the attention of your doctor - so I'm calling my tomorrow. Maybe I'll have more info to post after my appointment.
-
I have been on tamox since August and have noticed for about 2-3 months now, an increasingly itchy rash, hive-like area on the back of my head. It drives me crazy!! Antihistamines don't affect it at all - and nothing i've tried works. I put an email in to my oncologist this morning to see what she says.
-
So, what did your doctor say about the rash?
-
If you are suffering from irritation and skin rash, you should really go to the doctor for review. This could be an allergic reaction to treatment. This happened to me with other medicin. my doctor performed a biopsy and discovered that the body is responding to treatment as Toxique. After a period of three weeks, the body should be cleaned, the drug was replaced by another. Anyway I personally did not get along with tamoxifen, it made me shocking side effects.
-
thanks efrat_nel, I've already got a call in to my Oncologist. But... this rash is increadibly itchy!, I'ts all over my forearm. What is the reason?... Does it sound like it's the Tomoxifen?, I've been checking online but haven't found anything else out that is for certain....still waiting for my Oncologist to call...

Hey Mobey,
I understand the difficulty you're going through. You have to remember that your body does not respond always like others. You'll hear so often the doctors say not to compare with others. A certain amount of justice. It could be a result of an allergy rash scratching it as a result of normal reasons, but also can be connected to the drug. So the best thing to do is to get examined by a doctor, quickly. You should also notice, is your body's temperature rising? Do you feel tired and apathetic? So it certainly can attest to the sensitivity to the drug, even if you use it for a time. -
did anyone have weight gain?

I was allergic to tamoxifen, after taking it for six months. I also could not take Fareston, which is a tamox-like drug. Can't take AIs due to allergic reactions to those as well. I had hives from the tamox that lasted over 6 weeks, on the head, arms, body, everywhere. Terrible! They sent me to a dermatologist who did a biopsy and it was positive for a drug allergy and since tamox was the only drug I was taking, that was it. It went away after about 2-3 more weeks, but nothing helped it, it had to leave on its own.

I am highly allergic to drugs. I am wondering if an allergist is able to test for an allergy to
Tamoxifen, in a controlled setting, before taking the drug and possibly suffering a reaction.
Also, as a fibromyalgia patient, I'm hyper-sensitive even to the 'cure' for adverse reactions.
Any info from anyone else out there re: ALLERGIES TO DRUGS or FIBROMYALGIA as it
pertains to breast cancer treatment??
Thank you so much for sharing your experience!!!

Would you mind sharing these shocking side effects of Tamoxifen? My gut instinct it that
my body would not get along with Tamoxifen any better than it has with Effexor.
Thanks,

Follow up.
Allergist says cannot test for allergy to Tamoxifen unless have taken the drug previously.

Yes, I developed a rash from Tamoxifen. My onc took me off the drug, and now I'm having to undergo a hyst/oop as a way around it.
-
hyst/oop as the only alternative? Oh man. I have a rash now, developed over a few days, and I'm on Day 14 of the Tamox. these is no other explanation I can figure. Nothing new at all. Have to call the doc tomorrow. If it ain't one thing it's another, and life goes on.

Bellapazza, I don't know if having a hyst/oop is the only alternative, but it was the right choice for me. I had LATVH/BSO on 10/13 and I feel great. I truly hope this solves my issue. You're so right ... if it ain't one thing it's another.

Thank you for verifying my suspiscions! For the last couple of weeks I have had an embarrassing, itching outbreak, mainly on my forearms, chest and face. My dermatologist thought it looked like bug bites. My oncologist said the same thing and said it had nothing to do with my Tamoxifen. I have sprayed for bugs and washed everything, but my gut told me it had to be the Tamoxifen. I will be sharing this information with all my doctors.
Thanks again!
