Link from one conversation to another?

    Dear Mods,

I've noticed in the last 3 days that we no longer seem to be able to put a "hot" link (URL) to another conversation on this board.

I know we were able to do this in the recent past.

And we can still link to other parts of breastcancer.org (in one comment yesterday, I included a link to the Professional Advisory Board, and it worked) --

but we don't seem to be able to link from one conversation to another within the "Community Knowledge Exchange"  -- can you help with this?

IMHO, it will be a serious deficit if users can't answer someone's question with a simple link to another conversation that has a wealth of relevant information.

    Thanks in advance,

    Ann

Hi Ann, you should be able to link directly to other conversations by placing that link as you would other links.  Here is a link to THIS conversation which isn't that exciting but just shows linking at work.  If you still have questions please let us know at which point you run into trouble.  Thanks.

    thanks,

    Okay, I'm testing 2 ways:

I ran into trouble when just listing the URL, which is what I used to do, and which still works when the site is outside the "Community Knowledge exchange:

    http://community.breastcancer.org/topic/96/conversation/699141?page=1#idx_15

Now, I just noticed the "link" icon -- but it is greyed out -- are we only allowed one link per post?

No -- takes me to a page saying "Oh dear, that page can't be found!"

And the "link" icon is still grayed out.

Guess I'd better re-read the intro pages for new members!

Ann, you'll need to select the text that will be linked before clicking the link icon.  Does that help?

Ann, when you click on the link icon you get the error page?

Ah, that works just fine.  The problem is that you are linking to an invalid URL.  This may be due to a conversation or comment being removed by a user, for example.  Are you still able to find the comment you are trying to link to?

Still won't let me get to another conversation on this board.

I wonder if I'm including too much in the URL, or not enough?

Wow, now that finally worked as a link -- although it doesn't look very pretty...

Usually with that "a href" construction, the URL kind of disappears and just the "here" would appear as the link...

    Sorry Tammi (Melissa?)

I've been running ahead of you.

The comments haven't been deleted and the URLs are valid.  If I paste http://community.breastcancer.org/topic/96/conversation/699141?page=1#idx_15 into the browser window, it takes me to the page I want to link to.

But if I try it as a link, it seems to go to that error page. (But maybe not this time?)

THANK YOU -- I don't know if you tweaked something, but this time BOTH links work!!!

    THANKS!!!!

Hi Ann, this account is shared by a bunch of us on the technical team.  Tami and Melissa use a different account.  We'll try our best to help though.

HTML is not allowed directly in comments and will be "escaped" as your HTML snippets have above.  In order to put links in to comments please:

    1) Type the text you wish to link from

    2) Highlight that text

    3) Click the link button

    4) Enter just the valid URL (starting with http) in the "Link URL" area of the pop-up window

    5) Click the "Insert" button on the pop-up window

And you should see a link like the below:

    Test link here
