hi5 - I will speak for myself...I put a definition after each word, simply to define each meaning...it's an additional means of strengthening my chemo brain.

Hi5, This is the Homograph game. I assume you're talking about the Homophone game when you say this game was started a few months ago.
A homophone is a word that is pronounced the same as another word but differs in meaning. The words may be spelled the same or differently.
A homograph is one of a group of words that share the same spelling but have different meanings. When spoken, the meanings are sometimes, but not necessarily, distinguished by different pronunciations.
So while somewhat similar, they are definitely different.
I believe the reason we put the meanings there is so everyone will know the meanings we were thinking of. Sometimes I do look up my word to get help on putting my definition down in an easily understood way. Obviously, we have to think of the homograph ahead of time to be able to look it up. We're just going the extra mile.
My sister in law used to make fun of my mom, who had Alzheimer's disease, because she would look in the back of the crossword puzzle book for the answers, then fill out the puzzle. I let her know how many steps it took to look in the back, find the correct puzzle, then find the correct boxes to put the word into. While my mother was not coming up with the answers herself, she was indeed using her brain to the best of her ability. How I wish she had that much ability today.
We are all breast cancer survivors here, at different stages of treatment, etc. Let's be supportive and encouraging at least while we play games. We're just trying to have a little fun and if we help our brains while doing it, all the better. If not, no harm done.
Okay, time for me to go to bed.
Miss S

hi5: Please - no drama on this HUMOR and GAMES thread. I love word games and get a kick out of seeing how many words are actually homographs or homophones........I don't think it matters one bit if someone looks up a word to better explain it. Join us and enjoy, but if you don't want to then you can ..........
