swimsuit without prothesis

Hi, gang!
After a right mastectomy in November '06, I had a left mastectomy exactly one year later November '07 (risk reducing surgery). I have elected to NOT have reconstruction.
I am feeling so great. I really like not being lopsided. I'm comfortable as I am.
My question is: has anyone seen a swimsuit that's a good design to wear post bilateral mastectomy without prothesis? I want to go swimming for exercise and I don't want to bother with the prothesis.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks, all!

Cindy, I am exactly in the same search... I had a double mastectomy with no reconstruction a year ago exactly, and am happy as I am (even though still feeling a bit achy/itchy). I am looking into Arena brand (there is an on-line swim store) because I know they are with no bras inside, and not very expensive. I, too, want to go swim now that biking is a bit dangerous with the snowy weather in Denver... Like you, I enjoy the feeling of freedom with no breasts, like we were at age 10... Good luck in your search... Here is the link I am browsing through...

If all you are looking for are swimsuits with a shelf bra rather than cups- try Landsend, Sierratradingpost or any sporting goods stores. Most of the suits made for competetive swimming don't have cups

Hi,
I echo the Landsend suggestion. My mother bought me a tankini from there and I got to try it out six weeks after my bilateral. It covered all my scars and caused me no pain or irritation. It looks good too. I am also opting for no reconstruction although I'm fiddling around with prosthesises for work.

Trish, thanks for the heads up on Land End. I had the "good" breast removed in Oct 07 and have to admit, the flat chested feels pretty good. I found if you get the tankini, especially one with a pattern, you justend up looking small chested, not really obvious at all.
Other than the bathing suit thing, I am also going without the prosthesis. I dress a little differently than before, no TIGHT tops but am very comfortable going out without boobs! LOL
LOL Catherine on the 10 year old freedom!

Last summer I wore a tankini (I had one breast at that time) and stuffed the other side with half of a shower scrubbie.
Well, this year I am bilateral having had proph mast to the right breast late last summer, and have bought a bandeau top bikini, which has little pads inserted and also slits in the side, if I choose to put more padding in. It covers my scars nicely. It's not exactly the type of bathing suit to go seriously swimming in, but it will be nice to go to the beach this summer and not feel self conscious.

If you're considering a two piece, VSecret has one that you may
want to consider. It's called the Classic Push Up Top:
Before I started wearing my prosths with my suits, this one worked for me. But...it will depend on where your scars are positioned. Best wishes...
