What is your er/pr status?  Some people have tried the antidepressant effexor and it worked for them.  Unfortunately it didn't for me and I learned to just deal with them.  Talk to your docs though, they can help you.

Although I am a skeptic by nature, the hot flashes were driving me nuts. I hadn't had a good night's sleep since I can't remember. So this past week I tried acupuncture. It didn't get rid of them completely but I am seeing great improvement. I still have flashes but not breaking into a drenching sweat. And I've slept through the night every night since. I made another appointment to go again.

The acupuncturist said that not all women see an improvement but that some can get great relief. I'm sort of in the middle, but I didn't like the way Effexor made me feel and it was hard to get off it.

I also have hot flashes. Especially when I get anxious. I also get them very badly during the night. I wake up drenched in sweat. Arimidex causes hot flashes, I have had a hysterectomy, can't take hormones, so I just suffer through them. But they have gotten lesser as time goes by.

    hi,

my wife had bad hot flashes. she started taking Aromasin and they pretty much stopped. She told her Onc about it and he said "interesting"

Not only do I get hot flashes.  But now that my hair is growing back I perspire terribly from my head.  My PCP ordered Lexapro and it seemed to help me at night, but during the day I could just be standing there talking to someone at work and my entire head gets wet.  Then I think great they think Im nervous when indeed its a hot flash.

My onc prescribed Neurontin which has helped with hot flashes and other aches and pains.  The down side is weight gain, but it has certainly made my life easier.

Since you brought it up, I too take one 300 mg. Neurontin at bedtime, but I am on my last bottle. I think that the onc thought the flashes would be gone by now.  I am in year two of Arimidex. Will these hot flashes ever go away?

my doctor tried me on Effexor but it made me feel like I had an elephant sitting on my chest... so she tried me on neurontin.  This is actually a drug for neurapathy but it helps hot flashes also.. it worked while I was on it, but I also gained 45 pounds

I know it doesn't work for some, but I just started taking Effexor for hot flashes on July 7th.  It has helped me soooooooo much, I can't describe.  No more waking up drenched in sweat 6x per night and no more embarrassing head and face sweats during the day.

know what's odd?...One of the side effects of Effexor is night sweats.  I was on it years ago for anxiety.  I had to stop taking it because I was sick of waking up in the middle of the night with cold, clammy sweat everywhere.  Plus, it made me gain 25 pounds in eight weeks.  Ironic that they prescribe it to help STOP hot flashes.

    Hey Kim,

Do you remember what the dosage was for you?  I'm noticing some weight gain too - and not lovin' it.... I had just started to wonder if it was the Effexor when I read your post.

I couldn't take effexor or neurontin...but I have a little chinese folding fan that works great! :-) All kidding aside, I know they're a PIA, but considering the alternative, I'll take em.
