Ready set go!
-
You're looking forward to 'The Wire' tonight also?
-
I've actually never seen it Rose. I only got showtime a few months ago. Do you watch the show?
-
IMO "The Wire" is one of the best. I don't think Philly is all that different from Baltimore. I'd guess you'll like it too.
The first seasons are on DVD, I highly recommend it. There is a lesbian detective on it. She may not turn up until the second season.
-
Thanks Rose!
Well Marin.. what did you think?
I was a bit disappointed, especially in the first 3/4 of the show-- too much dysfunction for me. I had to make a bathroom run during the show, did they show who lit the fire?
-
IT was in a row house. A gas leak I think.
No bodies or anything.
I think that was more about the ineptitude in the news room than the news item itself.
-
Phew, I thought it was arson because of the way Shane broke up with whatshername/
-
OK....I'm here! I've been having a plethora of freakin' dates and couldn't get back to my girls before now! I even turned my Sunday guy onto The L Word....he went home and watched it for the first time and we've been emailing about it and other things since. That's one great litmus test....does the guy like The L Word and lesbians, for that matter? If not, it's to the curb with him!
OK, I didn't see the resolution to the fire as Rose reports it. Maybe I too took a potty break? Yeah, I was thinking it was Paige who did it.
As for your overall impression, Amy, I absolutely agree. I thought that there was no "personality" to the show and I just couldn't feel it, ya know? Too many attempts at cutesy humor or lightness, coupled with multiple appearances by Jenny who is more bizarre than ever! That dog thing has gotta go (wish Jenny would go!)! BUT, the final scene TOTALLY made up for any flaws..........HOW HOT WAS THAT????? I already love Tasha and Alice is lovely, so their reunion was sooooooooooooooooooooo exciting!!!
Guess I'd have to say I liked it
I hate Kit's hair though....

-
Glad to finally see your comments, Marin. I thought perhaps Paige's son had started the fire after finding out why they weren't moving in together.
I decided that I don't like Bette and Marlee Matlin's character together. MM has way too many hangups and was too defensive.
You're right about the last scene being hot hot hot.
I don't feel overly excited about next week-- of course I'll watch.
-
Yeah, same here, but I'm guessing that things will pick up in a few episodes because this is one show that has never been severely bad. As for Bette & Jodi, I've really hated that match-up from the start, but that's because I love Bette (and want her for myself...?
)! Even though both Jodi and Shane are rather "butchy," what do you think of their hooking up? I'm thinking that Jodi is one babe who could stand up to, and possibly tame, Shane.
I'm still not buying any simple explanation for the fire. Maybe it was Carmen seeking revenge for being left at the altar?
~Marin
-
You think Jodi is (i hate this word) "butchy"? I think she's pretty feminine as are most of the lesbians on the show.
I agee there has to be more to the fire, even if it initially seems like nothing. What's the name of Paige's son? I have it on the tip of my tongue.
-
I do think that Jodi is more "masculine," or less "feminine" than most of the other characters, not so much in looks or style (though she does sport boots and overalls occasionally), but in her behavior which is rather gruff and forceful. I suppose that I'm being stereotypical in my assumptions regarding behavior, but there it is. Since Bette is a real girly-girl, Jodi seems especially "butch," in contrast....at least that's how I see her.
Paige's son's name is Jared. I also considered it possible that he set the fire because he was with Paige when she caught Shane cheating and, though he didn't see the Act, he surely noticed the radical change in Mom. Hmmmmmmm...?
~Marin
-
I always thought the terms "butch" and "femme" (which I dislike because they are stereotypical) referred to outer experience. I don't use them and it's a bit of a turn off in potential gay friends if they do. I always say that I'm feminine, which I am externally, but wouldn't categorize how I am in a relationship as either feminine or masculine. I'm just me.
-
Is it just me or is the L Word pretty bad this season? I only saw the 2nd 1/2 of the show, I watched the golden globe press conference for the first part. I would have watched the whole show on a repeat if there was a reason. I'm so disappointed.
There were some good parts, Alice and Tasha and Phyllis but the rest was a real snooze.
-
I completely agree, Amy. The whole Jenny-is-such-a-bitch thing and Shane doing all those girls and their mother at the wedding...what tripe! I DO like the whole prison sub-plot with Helena and her cellmate....that's pretty hot. And Alice is looking less juvenile this season. But even their little fuss over Tasha's problems in the military seemed unnecessary....like the're just filling air time!
What a disappointment, but maybe it'll pick up.....
~Marin
-
Well, I do not get showtime and only watch the L Word when it comes out the next season, on DVD but you can imagine my excitement when I ended up on this thread while googling something else!!! Very excited to find other lesbians with breast cancer...I remember you, Pink Ribbon Amy, from another online support group...and even bought your video!!! Who knew!!!
-
Marin, I like the Tasha/military story line because it's so relevant. I like Phyllis, even if she's a bit over the top. I like Bette, though not necessarily with Jodi. I like the Jodi character and even liked Jodi last episode.
Suzan, you have me curious. I have a few ideas who you may be. Small world!
-
My 2 cents, Jenny is a FREAK! Her head has gotten so BIG since they decided to make a movie about her book. She is getting on my nerves as well as my husbands nerves.
Did you know that Jennifer Beals and Marlee are best friends in real life - interesting.
I think Tasha hot and her story line will be an intersting development.
-
I love Tasha and I'm really excitede about her story line. Jenny has become such unlikeable.
I did hear that Marlee and Jennifer were good friends and that Jennifer knows a lot of signing. I've been a fan of both for a while, since Flashdance and Children of a Lesser God. Marlee has been on Law and Order SVU too and she was great there.
-
I'm giving the show a few more episodes to pick up and then I'll cancel Showtime and get HBO. I can watch this season when it comes out on DVD....or not!
~Marin
-
I take back all the negative things I said about this season. Episode was GREAT. I laughed so hard at the opening Charlie's angel's spoof, especially the gaydar gun part. The Tasha situation is so maddening and sad. The military really sucks for what they do to gays. I can't believe she's stuck with a homophobic lawyer. That's got to be breaking some of the canons of ethics.
I don't see Jodi and Bette together much longer. I don't like how Jodi manipulated Bette into going to the weekend and I really didn't like how Jodi's friends had no boundaries. If I were Bette I would have left right after I was thrown into the lake. I assumed people got over pushing each other to drink when they were in their 20s. What a turn off.
I was bummed not to see Phyllis.
How funny was Helena's mother in the jail? LOL.
-
Well, I finally watched the DVR'd episode and I do agree, Amy, that it was much better than the first two. Hopefully, it will continue in this vein. I'm interested in the blossoming relationships between Max and Jodi's interpreter and between Helena and Dusty....very interesting. I also agree about Jodi & Bette and think that Bette & Tina will be back together after a few more bumps in the road (like Tina's sleeping with her 1st time date). But what will happen to Jodi? Do you think she'll get into a relationship with anyone else? I keep thinking she'll get with Shane, but......? I am enjoying Shane's celibacy, however short-lived it will be!
~Marin
-
I think Shane needs some time to herself to get her head screwed on straight-- she's not very good at celibacy though.
It would be nice if they showed some of the characters not in relationships-- there's more to being lesbian than the sex part.
-
I'm not so sure it's the lesbian theme or the demands of the audience that shows cater to when they focus on romantic/sexual relationships. I always parallel The L Word to Sex and the City and those girls were always in & out of relationships too...only with men.
I'd also be interested to see them develop the sub-plot that would have them training for the breast cancer research run in honor of Dana. That could be fun and cool.
~Marin
-
I never saw Sex in the City, Marin so I don't have that to compare it to. There are so few shows on tv with lesbian main characters it would be nice to have it not all about sex so there was a more accurate portrayal of real women who aren't sex addicts, don't sleep around and have normal healthy relationships LOL.
-
Has anyone been watching "Cashmere Mafia"? It's a new, "filler" show on ABC and stars Lucy Lui. It's actually not too bad and the characters even have a little depth. Anyway, one of them (there are 4 main female characters...the "Mafia") was in the process of coming out and had started dating another woman and sort of adjusting to a new lifestyle and self-concept when- BOOM- in last night's episode, she becomes attracted to a guy she meets at a bar where she's attending a "lesbian baby shower." They're trying to present a case of confused identity or maybe what it's like to be bi....I don't know, but now I'm confused! I'd be interested to hear anyone else's take on it....?
~Marin
-
I thought the character was supposed to be bisexual, Marin. I watched it once and thought it was way too boring to watch a 2nd time. Bisexuality on tv doesn't do it for me the way lesbian does.
-
I really thought that Shane was too funny during her work out trying to forget about sex. That won't last long.
Helena and Dusty, not sure if that will work out but Helena's mother is a hoot. During the last season her mother was involved with a woman and from the jist of things they are still together.
Tina and this new gal having sex on the first date was a real turn-off for me - at least get to know someone before you start to rip off your clothes.
I am finding that I still favor Alison - she is my favorite character and she has mozie. What ever happened to "Popi"? Is she off the show for the season?
The BC walk will be interesting. I wasn't too happy about the way they gave Dana bc and then showed her die in a rather quick manner. I felt that they could have should that women can survive with bc and how they can have enriched lives. JMHO....
I'm looking forward to Sunday's episode and can't wait to talk to you gals about it.
-
Oh Pepper, I must confess that i adored Papi, but for the most superficial reasons....she was gorgeous AND her clothes were amazing & hot! I do wonder why they did away with her character. In fact, isn't that how Alice met Tasha...Tasha was Papi's friend first, right?
I think that Tina is trying to deny her secret desire to get back with Bette by being promiscuous. She sure picked a hottie to do it with though!
I hate that they killed off Dana too, but maybe the BC race will highlight the issues..? Or maybe they'll give another character BC..? It sure works for Grey's Anatomy, but they're always the patients instead of a main character.
I'm also eager for Sunday's episode, now that the show has picked up!
~Marin
-
Wow! I can't believe, but an not surprised, Shane did a 3 way. She sure jumped off the celibacy bandwagon.
Bette and Tina!!!!!!!!!!! I can't understand why Jodi and Bette are together- Jodi is way too defensive for Bette. I wish Bette would just realize it rather than cheat on Jodi though.
