I agree Stacey, it is more complex than just adding supplements...Our environment has a lot to do with it...pesticides...chemical additives...processed foods....perhaps treated water and other contaminants and better yet lifestyle choices....but some things we can not change...the polluted air we breath and some foods...we rely much on others to live in this life.

the supplements can offer some help, exercise, destressing and spiritual well being.

Breast cancer has been an eye opener for me in how I've neglected caring for this earthly vessel...so in many ways it has helped me to change.

so yes it is worth discussing our lifesyle and diet.

    thanks for your comment!Wink

I think that is the frustrating thing.  I agree, we just don't know what causes breast cancer so we cannot expect various things to protect us, nor can we assume some seemingly b-9 things contribute to it.

The gals here (myself included) that ate right, stayed at good weight, consumed 5-10 fruits/veggies/day and limited meat intake, ate organic, exercised 5x/week, did yoga and all of that, are the ones (I believe) most frustrated because in theory, we "did all the right things" and still got it.

I'm with wallycat. I'm terrified to take anything, not wanting to '"feed" any cancer cells left in my body. Other than eating better ( more fruit and vegetables), whole grains, and green tea, I honestly don't know what's good and what's not! Like wallycat, I exercised, was a little chunky but not obese, ate fish, and was overall very healthy. Then this!

This is for prevention and attack. I am on to something here, so please check out the following:

I am stage four Inflamatory ductal carcenoma with mets to the bone...I feel better than I have in YEARS, do NOT get sick (I work in an assisted living community and was told that I was putting myself in a dangerous situation due to the potential exposure to constant illness),have literally sailed through chemo...3 treatments left! and I am beating this thing...My docs are scratching their heads. So maybe I am worth listening to... (I have met some resistance on this site, so I am nervous about passing on my info, but here goes...)

Check out Nutranomics, Amazon Protocol. I was diagnosed in Oct. Have been taking it faithfully since november 1. Pretty amazing stuff. I do high dosages so the cost is higher, but not unreasonable. Later I'll do a maintenance/prevention thing. When you go to the website, (nutranomics.com) if you try to look at the Amazon Protocol, you will not be able to access it. I called the 800 # and was able to talk to the founder, Traci, who is a pharmacologist by trade. They sent me clinical trials, etc. I swear by this stuff. I am also taking Cat's claw, Pau d'arco, spirulina, 5 greenest by earth healing formulas, coral calcium. I buy the Acai frozen juice and squeeze it into my banana, strawberry smoothies, and get mangosteen tonic from the healthfood store. Sounds like alot...it is, but really I feel so good!!! If i coldn't take any thing else, I would beg and borrow to get the amazon protocol.  I am amazed at this stuff.

Of course, since I have been diagnosed, I have been hit up by so many people who are into the latest network marketing tonics...I suspect that they are attempting to hit up this site.

I, too believe in GROUND flaxseed. I will put 1/4 cup of fine ground flax in my snoothies, when I am hungry...it's so filing! or I will juice 4 organic apples and mix a bit of flax with a bit of apple juice til the flax is gone.

I believe you nixieschaos, Don't worry about meeting resistance....your story and what has benefited you could help save someone's life. To be at your stage IV and be feeling as good as you are and sailing through treatment is unheard of...

Ladies I'm in-pressed with the study by doctors done on Co Enzyme Q 10, though no one but Dr. Folkers has attempted a study with breast cancer (at least to my knowledge) using natural supplements and traditional treatment. He had never seen cancer that had metastasized disappear until one of his patients took 390mg daily of CoQ10. Just read the story for yourself...It is well known and you can find his study on most cancer study sites...Here are just a couple of links:

    http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/pdq/cam/coenzymeQ10/Patient/page2

    http://faculty.washington.edu/ely/coenzq10abs.html

every persons body responds to things in different ways and some cancers are very different...what works for one may not for another...but it is good to know what has benefited others...because you never know that it may really help someone!

I am very thankful for everyone who shares what has helped them get through breast cancer treatment and prevention.

and nickieschaos, let's keep using our flaxseed and eating food without chemicals (if we can find them)...and supplementing our diets with what works.

    God's Blessings on all!

    Wallycat,

thanks for sharing that...I used natural progesterone cream for years before I was diagnosed.

my sister had breast cancer 9 years ago...so we both did research ways to help treat, prevent occurrence, and prevent recurrence. We both read about the protectiveness of natural progesterone cream and she and I both used it..(it relieved my PMS symptoms)..I hoped it lowered my chances of getting breast cancer too...but at age 43, here I am battling it.

I guess I feel your pain about natural supplements.

My sister is still in remission and takes many supplements.

she still uses the natural progesterone cream...but I don't, and I haven't tried to persuade her otherwise or her me.

I just use a few natural supplements with caution, and not for lengthy times.

You and I were both diagnosed at stage one, who knows, but maybe some of the things we did before diagnoses may have helped us...although some things may have hurt us.

Everyone is individual in nutritional and traditional medicine needs.

    have a wonderful day.

    God Bless!

    Amber

Yes, I am taking CoQ10; Colostrum; IP6 Inositol; Chloroxygen; Flax Seed Oil (capsuls); Fish Oil (w/Omega 3 and 6); Vitamin A, B12, D (from Sun daily or atleast 2 hours per week) and E and Floresence Total Body Cleanse.

I have researched over 100 hours (although I am not an expert by any means) of information on BC as I have had Colon and Uterine Cancer (5 years ago) and a 2 months ago had BC - early stage 1; Lumpectomy and had Mammosite radiation then my Onco suggested Chemo.  (Funny thing my surgeon said I needed surgery, my radiologist said I needed radiation..what were my chances my Onco wouldn't say I needed Chemo?) That's where the buck stopped.  I am the first in my family to have breast cancer; 9th to have had colon cancer. 8 died...I believe from Chemo/Radiation.  I have talked to Alternative Therapy doctors in a hospital in Atlanta who said I got the BC because the previous cancer surgeries were only a band aid on a boo-ooo meaning they treated the symptoms but not the cause.  The cause was a low immune system.

I am now taking the above listed vitamins and immune boosters along with having changed all my foods from processed foods to nothing but organic foods, which, by the way, do not cost that much more...Processed foods I have learned, are full of cargenogins which deplete our immune system.  For example, milk has approximately 140 antibiotics along with growth hormones which keep the milk coming.

Processed foods also are full of herbicides, pesticides, growth hormones (ever seen those huge tomatoes, cantelopes, seedless watermelons, etc?) and who knows what else that they haven't told us about.

Anyway, I now eat only the organic foods, drink atleast 32 ounces of fresh organic vegetable or fruit juices every day (I bought a Juicer and make it at home) and I feel very good and full of energy.  All my friends keep telling me my skin looks very bright and I have even lost 15 pounds (the easy way).  They even say I look younger but I think they are trying to patronize me..lol

For breads, I only eat Ezekiel bread and English Muffins (no flour) and they are sooooooooooo good with organic butter and honey :).

I also have changed deoderants from commercial to organic and have put a Chlorine filter on my shower.  Geesh! sounds like I am an extremist with this stuff, but after all the reading I've done, and all I've found out about the carcinogens and free radicals going around and ways to combat them with antioxidants....what can I say.  I am on the verge of paranoia when it comes to the FDA.... lol  I'm really getting into this thing others would call "voodoo science".

I went to GNC and they had a book that told what to take to prevent BC.  Then I researched all over the I-Net.  I have only found this site today when I learned about the DIM-Plus supplement.

(My Onco said he respected my desire to treat holistically but he still wanted me to take Femara...no way~ I told him.)  The Vitamin store clerk told me Dim Plus was good for an Estrogen Blocker which is what those of us with E+ would want.  However, I am not really going to take this supplement just yet as I still need to find out more about it as it says it decreases the bad estrogen and increases the good estrogen..  In my research so far, I have not heard of anything that said there was a good or bad estrogen and I don't want to take something that with the word "estrogen" in it until I feel more comfortable or know more about it.  Hopefully before the week is out, I'll have more knowledge about that.

For now, I just know I will not take the Chemo..especially when my 7 minute radiation treatment two times per day for five days costed $32,000 per day. (thanks to God for my good insurance..but then again, it just goes to show why  the medical field would not want us to know we could cure ourselves with so little money and with natural products )

Just as a side note, a good book to read that will really open your eyes about diet, cancer cures, natural treatment and give you a good way to treat this thing is called The Maker's Diet by Jordan S. Rubin.  You won't be able to put it down once you start...It's very informative and educational and Bible based on foods the Bible says we should eat.

Good luck to all and know I am on the journey with you.  Hopefully this will work as good as they say.  If not, I'll see you on the "other side" but I'll have one heck of an immune system.  lol

Hi all...I don't want to be the proverbial pessimist, but i too have eaten fruits and veggies, exercise,am at 130 #'s and seemed to do everything right. I have taken all the necessary vitamins menopausal women should take, and there are 9 everyday. Unfortunately I got BC which no one in the family ever had. So again it's not known where and what's causing it. It probably is in the water we drink, the food we eat and the air we breath. The pesticides are bad and so are the fertilizers and that all comes from the ground.

Now, the question was about prevention. Taking all these expensive supplements and teas, I don't think that you can call that prevention of BC. It may make a person feel better but isin't an example of not getting the stuff back. Especially when there are three chemo treatments left. I think that before we go out and spend a ton of money on stuff you really can't back up is sort of silly. And beware of mega doses, that can do more harm than good.

I wish we could all take the miracle pill that can cure us all but I'm trying to be realistic and I know everyone has to make their own bed so to speak. I've just done so many right things in my life that I have a hard time digesting certain so called cures.

Hope all goes well with every individual...

I have been told that selenium helps prevent cancer. But I don't want to take 30 pills a day and in the end still end up with bc anyway. i have meds I have to take daily as it is for health conditions. There is no real prevention. If were going to get we are going to get it. It is how we deal with it that counts and the strength we draw in order to survive. I don't know how I will act or how strong I will be if they tell me I have bc. I just pray that every 6 months that it will be negative. So far it has only been changes. I go on the 24th for another mammo because my doctor found something a couple weeks ago in an exam. I was having pain and irritable nipples. My breast hurt so bad that wearing a bra was irritating. And I could not stand a touch especially on certain parts. It is scary, I know because I am feeling it. Just be strong.
