Ever since I finished chemo and my tastebuds returned, I've eaten anything and everything....how do I stop????

I have a follow up onc appt on Jan 15th and I'm embarrassed to go I've gained so much weight.  I did lose about 15 lbs while on chemo and I've gained that all back and then some.

Someone give me some advice, please!!

Hard to say before knowing more information.

Are you eating because you're hungry or are you emotionally eating?

Are you on any medications that might be causing increased appetite?

I finished chemo 2 years ago and I have eating issues too.  Eating way too much and have gained alot of weight.  I have absolutely no will power.  I will lay there and say no while Im getting up to grab something sweet.

Remember the old days when there were jokes about putting a lock on the refrigerator?  Well that was directed for me since I do all my overeating at night.  I call it wake up hungry.

I also think Im eating because of all the stress with still trying to get through this journey with some sanity.

I now weigh double what I did when I was 21.  Time for a diet and exercise for me.

I had to delete the second post as I posted the same thing twice.

It's nice to have the taste buds back, isn't it? I was diagnosed with diabetes towards the end of my chemo treatments so I didn't go too crazy eating everything in sight. My FP doc sent me to a diabetes class and I started following the food plan that the nurse and dietitian recommended. I found all sorts of things (ice cream, cookies, cakes) that would fit into the food plan if I limited the serving size and spread them out during the day. I waited for each snack or meal time to see what I could eat that time.

I've gotten really good at reading nutrition labels and limiting serving sizes.

Find a plan that you can stick to without depriving yourself of the fun foods.

I'm 5 years out of chemo and my taste buds never returned to normal-- I'm envious.

My old motto was enjoy every sandwich, I haven't stopped eating and drinking for 2 years after my chemo ended. I too lost 15 lbs, gained that back and added another 20!

Terry-I held my weight at about the same through chemo but at the end and after I put on 25 pounds over night. I lost it later but I think it is creeping back on now. The holidays have not helped. I have spoke to many women who have gained weight in the same way. Even my onc said it is very common. The nurses in the chemo room said it happens to almost all the women with breast cancer. Give yourself some time to adjust to your self. I  am 1 year out since my last infusion and I can walk 4 miles 4 or 5 times a week now. You will see change for the better. I think ending chemo was more depressing than starting it for many of us. It is strange but true. Mine was all comfort eating. It always is. Good luck to you.

It's nice to know I'm not alone.  To answer Amy's question, it is most definitely emotional eating, I eat when I'm happy, I eat when I'm sad, I eat when I'm angry...well, you get the picture.

I'm not on any meds currently.

I know what I have to do eat healthy and maintain a healthy weight....I just can't seem to get motivated yet.   It just feels so good to be able to taste and enjoy food again!
