March on Washington June 2008

Options

Ladies,

There is a group of us on the boards that are seriously considering a march on Washington sometime in June 2008 to honor the over 40,000 men & women that die from this dreaded disease every year.

It will not be a fund raiser, and we really do not want any corporate sponsorship either.  All we want to do is fill the Mall with survivors and/or their families and let Congress, the US and the world know how many angels there are every year and the fact that we are mad as hell and we're not going to take it anymore.

So my question is, ARE YOU IN???

Please let us know so we can have an idea if this is doable.

Thanks,

Valerie

    Valerie,

Thanks for creating this thread.  We really needed to have a central place for all our information.  This is what we have so far.

We already have lots of volunteers.

I'll find out what dates are available in June and if we'll be in front of the White House or the Mall. I will send in the application for the permit along with my credit card for the $50.

Tender lives right by DC and has volunteered her home as a base for putting together signs, plans, coordinating of times, etc.

We can look into cafepress.com for designing and getting our t-shirts and other things for the memorial.  Maybe something like a black t, with "In Memory Of 40,910" written in pink on the back with the pink ribbon on the front.  Something that will raise questions.  All ideas are welcome.

More volunteers will be needed as soon as we get more info.  We'll need to spread the word all across the U.S., not just on bco!!!

I hope we can make this dream come true.

    Love,

    Brenda

Hi, Brenda--I posted on the original June thread in the mets forum--we need a web site for registering, information, hotel info, start date/time, link for t-shirts--link to bc.org, all the stuff that other non-profits have for events.

    Hugs,

    Geeta

PS, I'll be happy to see what I can do in this area. :)

I'm really excited about this idea.  One request about choosing the date - on behalf of the other teachers on the board, I think many of us will be ending the school year the first week of the month and would not be able to attend.  I know you have to see which dates are available, but if there is one after that week, it would be greatly appreciated.

I am looking forward to hearing more details.  Good Lord willing and the creek doesn't rise, my dh and I will be there.  This is such an awesome idea that I hope it is HUGELY successful.
