Early New Years Resolutions anyone?

I may be jumping the gun here, but it always helps me to begin evaluating my past year a bit earlier than New Years Day and setting a few goals for the New Year. I never actually call them "resolutions" but, rather consider them changes that I can resolve to make to enhance my life and bring it into better balance. Here are a few that I'm considering:

    * eliminate most processed foods from my diet/choose fresh

and organic as often as possible

    * drink much more (Pur-ified) water, at least 80 ounces/day

    * incorporate more exercise that enhances body awareness (yoga,

flexibility training, dance) into my routine. I'm considering

beginning dance lessons again and getting certified in Zumba

and Yogalates! Might also get back to figure skating (been

dreaming about the ice for weeks now!)

    * get back to a few creative activities that I've let slide (sewing,

crochet [I'm considering joining a "meetup" group for this],

       needle point)

    * read more/watch TV less Surprised...okay, this might take some real

       effort!

    * start a Team Survivor for/with other female cancer survivors

       in my community

    * in my spare time (huh?), starting a meetup of women to discuss

Eat, Pray, Love and related tools for living. On the other hand,

maybe that would be a cool thread here? Hmmmmmm....I'll

think about it next year Wink

    * and, finally....dah, dah, dah, dah.....finding a man who isn't a total

a$$hole!!!! Now THAT will be the most difficult goal to meet for

       sure!!!!!!!! Tongue out

Anyone else thinking of New Years resolutions or goals????

Get as healthy as I can.

Get in touch with people I've sort of just let slide.

Love my family more and let them know it.

Start volunteering at My Sisters' Place (It's a homeless shelter for women only I used to work there and really miss the women)

Get involved with a feral cat society in my city.

Have more time with my sons, one is still in Red Lake AC Mechanic and one in London.

    Stop napping so damn much.

I'd sort of like to do an Earl thing and anyone I may have hurt try to fix it somehow.

Being grateful every day and writing it down.

    That's alot for me.

Do more active things--walk, dance, hike, bike--more often. It's fun and healthy, and mentally healthy, and sometimes is also social (trying to talk myself into a committment here!)

Slow down and savor the moment.

Read more (I love to read).

    Do more art.

Stand up for injustice. Speak out more.

Put things away right away so I have time to do other things.

My sister's resolution is always to wear more lipstick! (I do wear more lipstick, but only Burt's Bee's (need a new source for the Fig).

    Take care,

Put me first.  Be kinder and more gentle with myself.  Hope that doesnt sound selfish, but I am convinced I need to put myself first right now.

Here is what I am considering--in no particular order of importance!

    Quilting again

Finish my book and find a publisher

Take a Tai Chi class with my daughter

Meet my 10,000 steps goal and try to exceed it

    Lose weight

Get back to work by July 2008

See my granddaughter at least once a week

here's to a healthy, happy new year to all,

    grace

My first goal is to set a goal for fitness and stick to it. I'm just not sure what that is yet, but I think it will be...

    The Danskin Tri

If I stick to that plan, then sub-goals for weight management and good health will automatically follow.

I will drink 64 oz of H20 a day, in the form of pure water or brassica tea.

I will eat fewer simple carbohydrates.

Learn wire wrapping to augment my jewelry making hobby.

Spend less time on the internet and more time reading books.

    Resolutions:

    1) be a better person

    2) have more sex more often

I don't believe in New Year's resolutions but thought I'd play along...

My goals are more modest than most because I know how fallible I am.  <groan>

First, I hope to refrain from piling mail and magazines on the dining room table.

Second, I hope to do my bank statements and file everything on a monthly basis.

Third, I will schedule appointments for some good, therapeutic massages.  My lower back and hips have become very tight and they need work.  I have found, however, that shoveling snow really helps alleviate that tightness and aching!  It's the old "use it or lose it" at work again.  Wink

    Peace on earth.

I want to stop procrastinating!  I do that way too much!  If I could figure out how to stop that then the rest would all fall into place.  Hmmmm......how to do that......  :)

I don't know about anyone else, but I never follow through with a new years resolution!  I guess because I procrastinate!  How ironic....LOL

Good question Marin! You've got me thinking!

    -- Get back in shape

-- Really learn how to use the amazing camera I got (early!) for Christmas

-- Love my family even more

I'm sure there are more but I need to pace myself! lol

(Notice there's nothing about giving up Coke Zero or chocolate on that list!)

Unfortunately the same resolutions I made last year.

    ...Start to exercise

    ...Lose 30 pounds

    ...Quit smoking.

So my resolution this year is gonna be to actually do what I promised to do last year.

Well, I know that I'm the one to start this thread to begin with, but I'd like to offer something I recently read about trying to fulfill resolutions that involve what we often think of as self-discipline or willpower. The article suggested that, instead of trying to grit our teeth and force ourselves to do something, we should pick one behavioral change and try to incorporate it into a routine. Like we usually don't feel especially irritated at the prospect of brushing our teeth or even taking our daily vitamins and meds and that's because these things have just become routine and we do them as necessities and don't really question them or have strong feelings about them. So if we take one thing like, for example, drinking more water, and just meld it into part of our daily routine (eg., each time I sit down at my desk at work, I take a few huge gulps from my water bottle) and then do this behavior for 3 weeks (that's about how long it takes to create a "habit"), it's just what we do. Voila!

OK, easier said than done when it comes to eating cerely sticks instead of chips, but you get the idea....start small!
