Problems with Calcium/PTH/Glucocse while on AI/Zoladex

Hello,

   I have been on Zoladex and an AI now for a little over 2 years.  Last time I was on Zoladex for 2 years, my blood calcium gradually creeped up to just over normal.  I went off just at this point, and the CA returned to normal.

   It has done the same thing this time.  At one point, it hit 10.8, and my PTH was tested.  It is "inappropriately normal" (i.e. it should be low,) which my Endo says means I have Primary Hyperparathyroidism.  The next step is for me to get a nuclear scan to find the problem parathyroid, and then have it removed.

   Meanwhile, my glucose is a little over normal, and my LDL is creeping up.

  Mind you, I am 36 years old, and never had a problem with any of this.

   I have a really hard time believing that this isn't due to the Zoladex/Femara, but no one seems to believe me.  I know that don't have any data on premenopausal women and AI's...

   So, I was just wondering if anyone else has had similar problems??

You're question is a difficult one, as the bodies Ca+ exchange is very tightly interwoven as you have experienced.

An excellent endocrinologist may be a very big help to you given your current situation.

I have not read of Goserelin nor an AI causing elevations of serum calciums.

It is frustrating for you, and I am sure that working together your oncologist and endocrinologist can explain better to you, and help establish the problem, which has been proposed as primary hyperparathyroidism.
