Ugly Betty

My confession: I love Ugly Betty. So satisfyingly lowbrow. It's got EVERYTHING. It is the ONLY TV show I watch except for the nightly news on ABC and PBS.
A new episode tonight! Oh, joy, oh rapture, oh bliss. Even DH is hooked.

I love the show too! I think a lot of people see a bit of Betty in ourselves.
-
I can't wait til it is on tonite. I also love the show.
-
Yeah, Amy, I bet you're right except she dresses much better than I.
Is it my imagination or are they going more and more over the top with this show? Last night's reminded me of the final scenes in Rocky Horror where they were on their way back to Transexual Transylvania.

Sign me up as an Ugly Betty fan. I love the premise of the show....a slightly overweight lady whose not particulary attractive on the outside working in a shallow fashion industry showing all those anorexic walking sticks what real beauty is.
-
The best thing for me about last night's episode was Wilhemina and Betty White.Betty Suarez showing up on the will tape accidently was a hoot. When she tried to eat the ice cream off Henry I almost peed my pants.
I didn't like the "love triangle" with the sandwich guy and Betty. I was so disappointed that the baby turned out to be Henry's, although if I were him I'd get a 2nd opinion and NOT trust Charley's word. I'm glad he didn't just get together with Charley out of obligation, that rarely works out well.
Do you think Wilhemena is really going to get pregnant with Mead's sperm? I have a hard time picturing that at her age and with her vanity streak.
-
Pink,
I think that Henry eventually is going to find out that he is not the father of the baby either before he leaves or right after he gets there.
I do believe Wilhemena will get pregnant, she is part of the whole entire show making everyones live miserable without her trying to do this I don't see how they would be able to continue on with the show. She is a fixed part of it, at least in my opinion.
-
I agree with both of the things you're saying. The show needs Wilhemena. I was thinking too realistically-- like a woman in her late 40s early 50s getting pregnant blah blah blah...the show is anything but realistic.
-
What, you mean you don't think that paintball scene was believable?
Don't forget about those 60 year olds that recently made news as new mothers. <gagging and showing my prejudice><WTH I'm not purrfect.>

I TOTALLY CALLED IT!!!!! I said a few episodes ago that willomena was going to use his sperm to produce an heir.
Okay, now I've calmed down. I absolutely love everything about this show. The writing and the actors are great. I always laugh, and there's a sense of values even though some of the characters are such trainwrecks.
Confession: geek henry is a TOTAL HOTTIE. okay, maybe a little skinny, but did you see his body-- those V muscles on a guy that I think are soooo hot.
Wow, do I sound desperate? I swear I'm not. lolol
-
Beth, it's hot how much he loves Betty .... And the sandwich guy, he loves her too ... Shows that beauty is really about the person. This show came from spanish tv and I've watched it in spanish ... La fea más bella.
Translated ... The most beautiful ugly girl
-
Is the story line the same on the Spanish show? I thought it was only modelled on a "telenovella???"
Well, Beth, I have to admit Henry was looking a little better in last week's episode but you and I will never have to worry about fighting over him. Not my cup of tea. Let's see, who is????? I do think Daniel is kind of cute but I think I liked Santos better. Too bad he was killed off.
Really, I am most enchanted with Marc. I know he is "not available," but he is so darling. I love the sly, little looks he gets on his face. What a fun playmate he would make.
He could be Georgie to my Lucia! (Lucky you if you have read E.F.Benson!)

Wonderful, a group of Betty fans!! I have been trying to figure out what happened. I knew Charlie was having an affair with the dentist. And she's pregnant. But it turned out the baby is Henry's??? Is that why Henry is going to Phoenix or Tucson or wherever??? Please fill me in!
I agree the last episode was pretty strange, but I still liked it. The guy who plays Henry was on a SciFi channel series called Jake 2.0. I thought he was cute in that also. I noticed the bod!!!

Ok--apparently Charley was sleeping around with more than just Henry, her boyfriend. Charley moved and Henry went with her, but he couldn't find a job so he came back to Mead in NYuntil the baby was born. Betty and Henry renewed their friendship, when someone (I forget her) told her that Charley had been sleeping around and the baby might not even be his. Betty struggled with this-- I can't remember if she told him or if someone else did-- supposedly Charley then did an paternity test and said he turned out to be the baby's father. We already know that Charley is a liar- we just don't know if she lied about this.
In the meantime, Betty and Henry renewed their relationship, much to the chagrin of most everyone she knows because they said he would break her heart.
If I have this wrong, I hope someone will correct me.
The actor who plays Henry was also on this campy show called Popular a few years ago.
-
The seamstress friend of Betty's told him, didn't she?
-
Yes, her name slips my mind- the one with the scottish accent.
-
Christine! the name finally came to me.
-
good one jas-- I was racking my brain all day trying to remember her name.
-
Time to revive the Ugly Betty chit chat. Isn't the current season good so far? I had been getting a little put off by some of the off-the-wall stuff late last season.
Do you think that Christina's baby is really Willie's/Bradford's? How about the possibility that she had JUST become pregnant with Stewart's baby? Or, maybe she will have a miss?
LOVE the developing relationship between Betty/Geo. (Is that how you spell his name? Never heard of that one.) It was obvious last week that Henry had fallen in love with his baby, if it really is his. You know how these soap operas can go..........
Am waiting in happy anticipation for the next episode.

I love this show, too. The origina telenovela was actually from Colombia -- it was called Betty La Fea and it was on about 7 years ago (I know this because my exH is Colombian and because I watched the entire thing while I was pregnant, and my son just turned 7!). La Fea Mas Bella was a Mexican version that followed. Ugly Betty is an American take on it, but it's the closest thing to a Spanish telenovela I've ever seen in English, and that's what makes it so hilarious -- that over-the-top silliness and wickedness and drama.
I LOVE America Ferrara -- she is an awesome heroine. And Betty's sister Hilda just cracks me up, she talks exactly like so many urban Latinas I've met, and her body language is just perfect.
The thing is, I never actually watch this show when it is on tv. 8-9pm is the worst time slot for me, it's right when I'm getting my son into bed, and I don't have Tivo or anything (I'm not a big tv watcher in general). I rented the whole first season while I was recovering from my first two surgeries and got completely addicted, to the point where I was searching the web and finding links to full episodes with Chinese subtitles on my laptop (which really belongs to my work -- hopefully I won't get busted someday!). I'm finally caught up with this season and can watch it on abc.com.
I actually felt sort of sorry for Charlie while she was in labor. Of course I'm rooting for Betty and Henry, but still, you have to admit, her situation kind of sucks.
-
I love this show. I think that willomena's character is such a great villian. Mark and Amanda crack me up--- and I just adore the script.
I really hope betty and Gio get together. I hear on next weeks season finale there will be an engagement ring...
-
Lorena, I think you can watch episodes on the UglyBetty website (ABC network) the day after the episode airs.
-
I can't believe that next week is the finale already, I am hooked on this show, why can't they make a funny day time soap as good as this a funny soap then I'd watch a soap.
Watching Ugly Betty give me the same feeling as opening up a really expensive chocolate bar, love it. I wonder about the baby Christina is having as well but they have to keep Whilemena in the show she is just to good at the bad. I'm glad Henry is gone I hope next year Betty does her dating then realizes that Gio is the one not the rebound guy. I would love to get my hands on the Betty Le Fea telanova show is it dubbed in english, I'm going to go through Thurs night Betty withdrawal again darn it.
-
when Gio said he didn't want to be the rebound guy-- he wanted to be the guy, my heart totally melted.
I just saw the commercial for next week. It looks awesome!
-
I have my heart on Gio, he's the GUY! Henry is just too wussy for me and has no sense of humor like Gio.
Also am lemming for the baby to come to be her ex husbands and not the dead guy.
-
They had a DNA test ... the baby is Henry's.
I haven't seen the last 2 episodes .... have them taped though and will watch.
It's Gio ... short for Giovanni.
-
I was talking about the other baby---Christina's carriing for Whilemena.
-
Rocktober, you are correct. I am just operating on the premise that this is your usual soap opera and it will come out that Charlie substituted a bit of hair or something (?) that belongs to the "real" father for the DNA test. Or paid off the doctor. Maybe a relative or something??? Anyway, you get the gist. Anything can happen in a soap, no matter how improbable. After all, so many people have "come back from the dead."
Yeah, I'm with you, Dotti. It's gotta be Stewart's. (Please, please) Isn't he a snake?
-
This looks like fun. When is it? Now that Project Runway is over the only thing I watch on TV is "The First 48."

I am so excited for the finale! 3 more days!
